Why oh why is "They're bigoted and not open minded" (especially when it's about right wing politics) still tied to education.... Especially in Germany (where I'm from) I oh so often see leftists go "People are right wingers because they didn't go to college/university, are "dumb", lack proper education", and........ That's just not true at all.

There are intolerant and close minded people with a PhD. There are open minded and loving people who didn't make it through higher secondary education.

I know that you guys love to quote leftist literature from the 19th century, but keep in mind that at that time it was mostly academics who got their opinions printed on paper. Literature, philosophy, all those things? Academics or at least good grades in school. Or if not that, at least good at writing and strong interest in "the fine arts"; good abstract thinking skills.

Those considered "dumb"? Nope, absolutely rare that we got our voices heard. Politics was, and often still is, a highly abstract and theoretical discussion between educated people.

Saying that people of a political opinion you oppose only have that opinion because they're uneducated is a trap. Don't fall for it. Don't exclude us. Don't be unintentionally ableist. Please. Thank you.

So my sister wants to start sewing more, because

a. She’s 5′ 11″ and can never find pants long enough for her legs or shirts long enough for her arms.

b. She hates synthetic fibers as much as I do and it’s difficult to find natural fiber clothes that aren’t made of cotton

c. She’s a biologist and would physically fistfight microplastics if given half a chance

So her gift from mom and dad for her birthday was a sewing machine. Not a super expensive one but a good solid serviceable one.

And recently she asked “So where do I GET wool or linen and thread that isn’t polyester” and mom was like ‘go ask your sister’
