yeah no man it's cool that you don't like the female character for having an insufficient development. yeah even if you adore that male character that appeared in two frames of the show. yeah. yeah. yeah. cool. cool.

Completely random byler-brained moment but I was rewatching a bit of Spies Are Forever (gr8 musical if you haven't seen it) and honestly the relationship between Curt and Tatiana is how I can see milkvan going down. See, for much of the musical there's "romantic tension" between these two characters that culminates in a "love confession" type of song, after which they immediately realize they're not compatible and decide they're better off as friends. It's a very good comphet + 'straightbaiting' example bc Curt is a closeted gay man and Tatiana .. honestly just has a lot of other stuff going on in her life. But they think they SHOULD confess they're feelings bc everything around them pushes them towards it.

It just goes to show you can build up a str8 relationship with basic tropes as a way of faking out your audience and it WORKS as a satisfying story, especially when a male romantic figure for your MC has been pre-extablished. I can imagine mikes love confession being a wake up call for Eleven (and Mike) realizing he wasn't being authentic, but not ruining their friendship bc she also realizes she was trying to force herself into a romantic box as well.

Again this is very byler brainrotted of me bc the shows aren't very similar but sooo much of the idea of "a comphet relationship built entirely out of expectations from people around them, stereotypical romance tropes, and historical pressure" reminded me of exactly the way milkvan has played out so far... Also the way the MC being gay is HEAVILY implied in various ways but still a twist to the audience bc they expect everyone will just accept the romance tropes at face value... It's very doable!!!

Anyways I feel like I'm vocalizing this terribly but hopefully someone gets it

the moment that there is a clear portrayal of colonisation in media, some people immediately begin to jump through hoops to act like said coloniser characters are not, in fact, colonisers due to a need for finding comfort in said piece of work rather than viewing the work as the creative intended. You can still enjoy Peter and Lola singing "Will Ye Go Lassie Go?" without fawning over the characters of Bert and Joan.

Sometimes I feel insane when talking to other people abt stranger things, especially season 2, bc to me (a will byers lover), his development in s2 is really interesting and also feels very obviously allegorical for the aftermath of sexual abuse but everyone I talk to is like "hmm I never thought of that". like. u never thought the child who was kidnapped from his home and then found in a strange place with a tentacle down his throat and then later has recurring flashbacks and nightmares where he feels the monster 'all over' him might possibly mean anything at all?? ok I guess
