Do I Wanna Know? || (Playing From Another Room)
Now you too can feel like Alex Band Guy.
Listen to this audio and imagine yourself at a pub with your mates. This song, your song, written by you, plays on a loop from the time you walk through the door. Why? Because meta. You excuse yourself to the washroom and stare at your reflection until you work up the courage to get absolutely plastered. “You can do this.” You tell yourself and walk out before you have a chance to think rationally and run back home. You put on a brave face, and run back to your mates and proceed to knock back shot after shot of tequila. Now the real fun can begin.

being torn between the cottagecore aesthetic and the dark academia aesthetic is so annoying like.... do I want to gather daisies in a wildflower meadow or wander around gothic buildings? decorate my room with flowers and patchworks or old books and candles?? wear summer dresses or turtlenecks?? bake bread from scratch or commit a mysterious and inexplicable murder????

read classic poetry in the bath. scratch shakespeare quotes into your desk. keep black-and-white pictures in a golden locket. learn the language you’ve always wanted to learn. dance in the rain, even if you’re not sure how. read wikipedia pages on unsolved mysteries at two in the morning. live your life the way you want to, make your own rules, become who you’ve dreamed of being. because really, who’s stopping you?

Dark Academia Tips #2
1. Invest in a planner. Write down how to get away with murder in perfect cursive. Also, write down when your classes are and when things are due, so you do not have any issues this semester.
2. If in doubt, add a cardigan in the colours grey or beige. A coat or cardigan of almost any kind will always make one look like an academic, of which you can then act like.
3. If, unfortunately, your parents are not long dead and have left you with a sizeable inheritance, turn to them for help with schoolwork if you must. It’s free, unlike a tutor, and most parents will care very much about your education.
4. Dedicate at least 30 minutes to studying per day, exceptions being sick or you are on trial (or trying to put someone on trial, mysteries count too). Read over course material, work out new math problems, read further ahead and find more resources for history. Your grades will thank you.
5. If you need to study, head to a library. Many now have little cafes inside where you can locate food and drink. Grab a small snack- brains work best when not hungry- and a big book to study with. Wear a black turtleneck and a beret, and people will mostly leave you alone. Bonus points if you wear a cardigan.
6. If you have fallen in love, write your beloved darling a poem or a letter. Take a moment to appreciate them, for in this mortal realm of which death is ever approaching, every moment you have can be a memory worth making.
7. If you do not have a lover, congrats! You are free of that existential crisis. However, you may be lonely. If not, good for you. If you are, go to a cafe, or perhaps a library- maybe you can even meet someone in class. Just strike up a conversation with someone you feel is a kindred spirit. If it doesn’t go well, they’re missing out on a wonderful person.
8. If you are in school, there’s a large possibility that you may have a club that pertains to your interest. Look for an academically inclined one- my personal favourites are theatre, poetry, and art. Not only can you meet friends, you can gain practical skills for your hobbies, whilst still feeling that of the dark academics, you are indeed the darkest.
9. If you are bored, write something- anything- onto a whiteboard. Fill it up with numbers, poetry, quotes, drawings, until you have it fully coated. Hang it or leave it somewhere conspicuous- you now have a decor piece you can change at will, and a testament to your intelligence.
10. If you have graduated and are no longer in school, fear not! Academia ages with you like a fine, red wine. Go to your library, attend lectures, stay up-to-date on world news. Maybe learn an instrument with your time. If you are able, consider going back to college and getting a degree in something you enjoy- English or the Fine Arts are always a good choice.

genuinely cannot really relate to the appeal of dark academia.... my actual studying brand is more like. Goofy Academia: pink highlighters, powerpuff girl scented erasers, memes about the duolingo owl, hoarding dirt-cheap dictionaries of languages i will never learn from library sales, making my stuffed panda my study buddy and accountable for me not procrastinating, studying in pyjamas and a blanket draped on my shoulders with the animal crossing soundtrack on because it genuinely helps me focus, scribbling doodles on the backs of old practice test papers, messy bullet journals with stickers, making my dog sniff my textbooks to bring me good luck, practicing essay writing and literary criticism by writing about magical girl anime..... it goes on..... and you know what? all that? I own and enjoy it. embrace mundanity and what aligns with your real state of being. grandiosity is an illusion!
