MAG 013 Thoughts + Drawing

Episode 13!! This is a fun one. It's so strange to me that this is the first time we hear someone that isn't Jonny in the show because when I think on it it feels like we've heard Martin and Tim by now. I think it's probably just because they get mentioned in just about every single one of the little post statement bits. Anyways, this is another banger! This stretch of season one (episodes 11 to 18) is definitely my favorite section of this season.

This statement feels more tragic than horrifying in a way that I'm a big fan of. I picture every moment of this statement absolutely drenched in mist and fog. It has such a strong atmosphere and really makes the Lukas family mysterious (especially in a few episodes when we learn that the Institute gets most of its funding from them). I love the chapel that leads to an empty field and the whole cemetary sequence in general, and Evan saving Naomi from beyond the grave is so bittersweet and beautiful (especially post Gerry lore dump where it really seems like Evan had to go through a lot to stop himself from becoming an avatar of the lonely and that this was his attempt to stop someone he really cares about from being trapped and alone forever [and it also really seems like he intentionally never let Naomi meet the rest of his family, which I assume was to keep her safe from them {it's also stated that he's not on good terms with them so maybe not but it's still interesting to think about}]). I really love that moment, it's one of my favorite small details in the series, but it's also really funny to imagine that the all incompasing fog that wants to feed off of people's fear just has a big hole in it that anyone could escape through if they happen to walk through it. This episode also helps build some immersion. I think that this show would work fine without the actual interview episodes (is that what they're called), but I think they really help sell the Institute as a real place that actually operates and does stuff (I genuinely forget that sometimes).

Here's the drawing for this episode! I wanted to do Evan's tombstone in the fog because I really thought that there was a moment where Naomi saw his grave in the Lonely fog but I think I imagined that. It's another pretty simple drawing but I think that's alright.

Surprise new thing I'm doing for every post! I want to keep a little tier list of all the episodes to keep track of which ones I like the most (to be honest they're all pretty good) and here's the list with the first 13 episodes!

I do also have them in order on the tiers (right to left). So for A tier the order is episode 9, episode 5, episode 3, episode 6, and then episode 13 at the top. Hopefully that makes sense and hopefully no one is mean to me about this list 💀.

MAG 012 Drawing

I drew the eyeball frame! This is probably the most simple drawing I've done so far, but the visual has been stuck in my brain for a long time so I figured it would be a good thing to draw for this episode.

Also I decided to make this one my profile picture.

Also, starting next episode we'll be getting into episodes that I didn't get to the first time I started my relisten so I'll be giving my thoughts on all the episodes as well as a drawing so be prepared for that!

MAG 011 Drawing

I had a fun time experimenting with this one! I've never really used the blur tool before and I think it added a nice dreamlike effect to the drawing. This is definitely one of my favorite ones that I've done so far, I hope all of you like it as well! I definitely still need to get a little better at drawing people though. MAG 010 Drawing

I'm back again! Sorry for the long absence again, but I have returned with a couple drawings so I won't just be posting this one and disappearing at least.

I don't really have anything new to say about this one, I still think Trevor would call me slurs and I still think the episode as a whole is just okay.

It took me a while to come up with something from this episode that I would be able to draw and I eventually decided on Trevor hiding under the bed. I did my best on this on this one, but I'm not very good at drawing people yet so it doesn't look great. I'm sure I'll get better with time.

As the end of this year approaches, all I can wish for is a moment of peace, even if just for a short while, to bring us back to our homes, to the memories and places that war has destroyed.💔💔
