A quick guide on how to merge/overlay your gifs

Step 11: MERGING/OVERLAYING GIFS TOOLS: Smart Objects + Gradient Map + Brush

Start by coloring and sharpening your gifs how you want. I would suggest however, know how you want to frame this merged gif because it'll help you once we start merging/overlaying them. Make sure each gif is the same size.

Note: See how I have adjust my crop to fit the framing I would like for my gifs. The Gh*rman! Kassa should fit perfectly on right side of the first gif.

Now on your 2nd gif or whatever gif your laying on top, highlight your entire work area. You should make sure the little arrow is pointing down by your gif layer and shows you 'smart filter -> smart sharpen' etc.

You will then go up to 'Layer' and scroll down to 'Smart Objects' and then click 'Convert to Smart Object'

Now everything is in 1 layer. Yes, it will take the name of the layer on top-- you can rename it if you wish (I usually just let it rock).

From there just treat it like how you would do coloring and drag it over. Use the 'Move' tool so that you can line it up how you would like and drag it on top of your base gifs work.

Note: You can always convert the base gif to make it easier if you would like-- I do it this way incase I'm trying to layer more or weave in colors

Now there is a couple of different ways to merge or overlay.

FIRST: GRANDIENT TOOL

Make sure to be on your overlay gif and click 'Layer Mask'. Be sure to always being clicked onto the white box that pops up.

Click the 'Gradient Tool' and then click and drag over your overlay gif and it should reveal the base gif.

Note: Make sure you on the basic black and white gradient, it's just easier. Pay attention to the black and white dots, You can drag and move those as you wish to get your gradient how you like it.

That is 1 way to do a merged gif.

SECOND: BRUSH TOOL

This is pretty straight forward and if your up to free handing or perhaps maybe you don't like your gradient all the way you can touch it up like this. First get your 'Brush Tool', and make sure you are on the preset 'Soft Round' brush as it gives you a softer outline. It'll appear at the top above your untitled tabs and will have a number indicating the size of the brush.

Now be sure to be clicked onto the white box and brush where you want to touch up or everything you want to erase.

THIRD: USING THE FILTERS

This one is a little trickier because this is when the 'light' 'dark' values and color of your gifs will matter. However all you do is just click on your overlay gif and set it to 'screen' as it is the easiest. You probably will have to lower the opacity as it might come off too strong.

You can also still add a layer mask to the overlay gif and use either of the options above to help adjust it better to how you would like.

And that's how you merge/overlay gifs.
