Patiently waiting for more Tenna content (your design for him is really good), especially him interacting with Frisk and the other party members (also, would Jevil be the one who'd talk to Tenna after every board like Susie does in the og game ?)
tyty <33 once artfight's done I wanna draw more stuff for here for sure!! especially with Tenna though I plan to go back and draw out designs for all the chapter 1 and 2 people I haven't yet that I realllly should (I've not drawn QUEEN yet! can you believe it?!)
The party members aren't 1 for 1 replacements for the Deltarune ones (Well Wyolfe is sort of a 1 for 1 of Ralsei. But there's a bit More to it than that.) So, while Jevil might take on Susie's role of mentee in Chapter 4, if anyone's going to "check" on Tenna between the boards its going to be Spamton because Spamton's suspicious of Tenna and would try to take the chance to eavesdrop to see what his deal is.

Does the old jitterbug scene happen in this AU ?
proobablyyyy not? at least not in the same way. while I'm not eloquently enough spoken to really breakdown the jitterbug scene, I do think people acting like sans or toriel are being horrible and evil for not considering Kris's emotions are insane- though deltarune sans DOES show significantly LESS social awareness than Undertale sans (mr. 'i can tell how many times you've died JUST BY YOUR EXPRESSION.')
so, even while sans isn't the most responsible person, I think he'd. definitely be able to tell that Frisk was Bothered by something and be more. Tactful about it?
but also there isn't the divorce context here. Toriel and Asgore have been separated for ages, Frisk didn't experience their divorce first hand and Sans isn't a stranger to them. so they also wouldn't be bothered by Toriel and sans hanging out and drinking in quite the same way Kris is?
complicated! its complicated. I suppose my end point is that even if it does it wouldn't have all the extra layers of underlying drama that it does in Deltarune because all of these characters are just. not the same?
Toriel and Sans have known each other for longer, Sans isn't a stranger to Frisk, Sans is better at reading people in undertale than he seems to be in deltarune and would know if frisk was freaked out and therefore know to be more Tactful, and also just in general- while Toriel is the person Frisk primarily lives with and for legal purposes is their primary guardian, Frisk regularly stays at other monster's houses. If Toriel and Sans were planning on drinking, one of them would've called someone else (Papyrus, by someone else I mean Papyrus) to look after Frisk probably?
IDK lol.
#talk tag#deltarune bt#dr bt#my chapter 4 outline is not super in depth yet!! i have not gotten far enough along to have thought about the jitterbug scene!!#so everything i just typed here is entirely off the top of my head.

Do not apologise for your thoughts being consumed by dad Tenna, the people love dad Tenna, especially when keeping in mind that he's still a pretty bad boss that freaks tf out when things don't go his way, something that is shown well in his doom board section, zapping the fun gang for not answering the quizzes and even if you keep saying "I love TV" in that section he says that it's not good enough and keeps the game going, speaking of, curious about how differently that section goes in this AU
In general this Tenna is moderately toned down in terms of his behavior particularly in regards to violence/threats (... when it comes to Frisk. Other people he's... about the same as he is in canon with.)
Mostly because Frisk is younger than Kris so it kind of feels like a Lot but also Frisk comes from a much... saying 'more' troubled household doesn't feel like the right phrasing exactly, but Tenna's generally not going to be intentionally inflicting any kind of real harm on them until his breakdown boss battle, during which his intention still IS just to try to exhaust them into giving up but his method of exhausting them is battling with them until their hp hits 1 (i.e they are on the brink of death), so..
I think this actually might result in Tenna instead just zapping Spamton and Jevil (Wyolfe takes up the same battle slot as Frisk and is usually perched on them so there's no way for Tenna to zap Wyolfe without also zapping Frisk), which becomes (intentionally or not) the emotional manipulation of 'do what i want you to or your friends get hurt' which is, frankly, a MUCH more effective method of getting Frisk's compliance than actually harming Frisk directly is.
The exacts format of the third board isn't settled yet but would still probably happen. Tenna similarly wouldn't except any amount of "I love TV" being said- the only reason he'd set that as a 'goal' is that he was trying to give them an impossible/time consuming task to stall them. This Tenna's objective is to stop Frisk from reaching the Dark Fountain because he doesn't want them to leave, so- while there IS still some desire to be validated as still wanted since he was up in the attic for a few years and does have some anxieties regarding if Frisk remembers him, cares about him, still likes him at all- no amount of feeding into THAT would actually resolve anything because the real problem is that Tenna doesn't know Frisk is in a different living situation now and doesn't want them to go back to it.
#talk tag#deltarune bt#dr bt#uhh if this has typos or nonsense sentences ignore it. five am moment#while this Tenna does still have a Lot going on I also think he's toned down in several ways.#he's still not a great boss here though. a bit better towards Ramb than he (and everyone else) is in canon though in my head for Reasons.#(thing i will draw later)#augh god ramb. i need to figure out what the FUCK is going on with him 'during' the 'chapter' because like.#Shadow Mantle's game. cannot be the same. and frankly#I don't think. the shadow mantle should uh. stay as is anyway?#it feels similar enough to a secret boss that it sort of defeats the original idea of this au to keep ti as is#but there's not enough. Character to it to actually Use it as a party member or anything#i dunno!!

was thinking about that thing I've mentioned before of Tenna having an easter egg of a split-second reaction before the game over screen if you manage to somehow die during his fight (since his is like Toriel's in undertale) and then it tangent-ed somehow into thinking about Spamton NEO.
and... Spamton doesn't have the same sort of easter egg because during the NEO fight he IS trying to kill Frisk, so he doesn't immediately regret doing so, not soon enough to be seen before the game over screen. its the first time this version of Spamton ever actually SEES the strings and he doesn't really understand what the FUCK that means and he's freaking the hell out on a lot of levels so. uh. somewhere in that he decides taking Frisk's soul is the solution.
but the SOUL shatters when You die. so like... Spamton NEO- in the time it takes for You to press continue- just gets to sit there as it shatters in his hand, unusable, useless. Everything he just did was futile and pointless. ouch!
#talk tag#this isnt like. CANON since its something that'd be reset over as soon as 'You' pressed continue.#but like.#the hypothetical momentary angst before the reset...#sorry im in a mood lmao.

I like the detail of Tenna's cracks growing the more angry he is!
eyyy someone pointed it out! yes, the crack Tenna has on his face worsens when he's angry/panicked/generally upset. The more its cracked = stronger he's feeling about a given thing.
These immediately 'heal' once he's calm though, leaving behind only the 'real' crack in his screen (the one that his light world equivalent ACTUALLY has.)

Pfft- Ironically enough I can see Tenna having an edge over Asgore in the status of best dad via, not trying to kill them.
I hate to bully Asgore but... Tenna certainly seems to think so.

Question! Don't know if you're just playing around with the Roaring Knight's weird ass body, or if my mind is right in thinking they look different at base.
The Roaring Knight is different, yes! There's something specific going on in its design based on the current outline I have for who/what it is in DR:BT but that is... potentially subject to change based on future Deltarune information.

the only reason Tenna doesn't tag along for chapter 4 is because Frisk is already at the maximum number of party members and Spamton and Jevil already called dibs on Being their party members during the start of chapter 3 . better luck next time, Tenna.

general chapter thoughts
vague thoughts on the Light World setups for each hypothetical chapter of DR:BT. These are just rough ideas and might change.
Chapter 1:
While this doesn't have the Goner Maker section, as You already have a 'vessel' you are fully familiar with, there is a conversation with... someone before You start playing who assumes You are there to reset the game (Undertale) and becomes confused when You say you are not- after all, there is no "game" left to play. What do You hope to achieve by continuing? Also if this was an actual game, while not something I think would be reasonable to actual code, I think it'd be funny if You answered 'Yes' to saying you were there to reset that it'd close out DR:BT and launch Undertale lol.
-> Starts somewhat late in the day in the Light World. Frisk wakes up sitting at a table in a classroom they were doing some after-school activity with. Monster Kid (MK) and a handful of other monsters their age are there as well- talking with them provides the context that this is apparently a Papyrus Fan Club (founded by MK), of which MK (and Frisk) are the only ones that actually really care about that and the rest of the kids are just hanging around for various other reasons (free food, etc). They all mention how unusual it is for Frisk to have fallen asleep, but that no one woke them up because Frisk's seemed tired lately so they probably needed it (with MK promising to catch them up on everything discussed tomorrow.) -> From here You can walk around Home Town and chat to various people. Various people will mention an 'important meeting' happening in 7 Days to discuss what to do for the anniversary of monsters returning to the surface, with some asking if Frisk will be there and others asking if they've got any ideas (which You can answer yes to, but not actually elaborate further on.) -> If you check the lockers by the "big kid" classroom, you can find one which is described as having the name 'Suzy' carved into it. Going into the "big kid" classroom and interacting with the chalkboard will note the chalk is all missing. Interacting with the supply closet will bring up dialogue that its 'locked up tight' and that 'no one goes in here.' If you interact with it, it adds a dialogue prompt with another character later who mentions that the key to it was lost a long time ago, but that there's nothing important inside so no one's bothered to do anything about it. -> There's a thrift shop that's closed at the time. Interacting with the window will give a textbox saying that the window is dusty, but You can see an open door to a back room with an 'old TV' visible inside. -> Once you return Home, Toriel asks how the club meeting went, if Frisk had a good day at school, etc, typical parent things. You can talk to her further afterwards and if you ask her how she's been, after answering, she'll ask You the same, mentioning that she's concerned Frisk isn't getting enough sleep and that, if anything's worrying them, they can always talk to her about it- You are not given an option to do so, with the responses being "I'm Fine" or "I Will" (both deny that something is Currently wrong.) -> Going to Frisk's bedroom and interacting with the bed will give the option to go to sleep. Picking "Yes" will cause a fade to black that fades back in to the bedroom at night. It fades in and out several times, showing a dark shadow progressively growing under the bed, with the final fade-in ending the cutscene and giving You control again. You can wonder around the room and interact with things, thought can't leave- interact with the door will just bring up a text box declaring "You don't want to wake mom." Interacting with the bed will start a brief cutscene where Frisk sits down and tries to look under their bed. When they start to reach under it, a tendril of darkness grabs their hand and pulls them under. Falling Down.mp3, and then its Dark World time.
actual Dark World Rambling to be saved for another post another time.
Chapter 2:
-> This chapter starts similar to Deltarune Chapter 2 with starting dialogue from Toriel, though its just her coming to check on Frisk since they've 'slept in' and then going 'Frisk-!', which then prompts the 'fade to white' which reveals the actual scene going on: Toriel finding Frisk asleep (though now awake) on the ground next to their bed and making sure they're alright. Toriel assumes that they must have rolled out of bed in their sleep, makes sure they aren't hurt (they aren't), and then makes a comment of how they must have been having Quite some dream to toss and turn that much. Response options to that "It was nothing", "It was fun", and "It was frightening." While Toriel's dialogue varies based on what You answer, regardless, she'll observe that Frisk still seems tired and that they probably didn't get a very restful night of sleep with all the tossing and turning. -> After discussing that, Toriel tells Frisk that its almost time for school and to hurry up and get ready and that she'll be waiting in the car. Exiting the house will start up a cutscene of Toriel bringing Frisk to school, similar to the one in actual Deltarune. Toriel is Frisk's teacher. While You can keep Frisk awake for a varying length of the class, eventually Frisk will fall asleep. Toriel will wake them up when class is over and tell them that she knows they must have had a rough night of sleep, so she let them sleep through class just this once, but to not let this become a habit and to make sure they get their homework done. She'll mention that she knows Frisk has another club meeting with their friends today, but that if they're too tired and want to skip it that she can drive them home now- picking 'Yes' will skip the opportunity to walk around town, bringing You straight home where you can't leave (If you try Toriel will bring up 'were you not tired? you should lay down and get some rest'), picking 'No' lets you walk around Home Town and talk with people until you chose to return home on your own. -> Entering the Libarby will have the worker at the desk immediately mention to Frisk that the internet is down right now, so while they can go into the computer lab if they want, there isn't much they can do on the computers right now. If you go into the computer lab, Berdly is in there- not important, just a fun little easter egg like Suzy in chapter 1. He complains about the internet being down because he was using it to research things for a school project he was working on. -> The thrift shop is still closed. Interacting with the window will say that the back room door is now closed so You can no longer see the 'familiar TV.' -> Same as Chapter 1, interacting with the bed will give You the choice to go to sleep, with choosing to do so fading out and then back into the bedroom at night, where You can get up and interact with the bed to have Frisk crawl under it, which starts up the Dark World section of the chapter.
Chapter 3:
-> A cutscene plays of Frisk tossing and turning in their bed, eventually falling out of it, waking up shortly after (returning control to You.) It's still night. You can actually leave the room this time; Interacting with the bed just triggers the dialogue box of 'You're thirsty', further interaction just says 'Water first.' You can get a drink of water by interacting with the kitchen sink, but if You try to return to Frisk's bedroom, the door won't open, giving the textbox dialogue of "You aren't tired." Interacting with Toriel's door will say that 'You can hear soft snoring' and that 'You don't want to wake her.' -> The way to progress is actually to go to the front door, prompting the text box "You aren't supposed to go outside at night." "Go outside?" Picking 'No' will just have Frisk take a step back and let You wander around the house more. Picking 'Yes' will have you go outside. -> Calling Toriel's number after going outside will have it 'go to voicemail' and note that she 'must be asleep', which is 'good for you or you'd definitely get in trouble.' -> There's no characters to interact with and most buildings are locked. A few houses have lights on. If you interact with the door of any house (other than your own) you're prompted 'Knock?'. Saying "No" gives the textbox of 'You could knock... but you don't want to get in trouble.' Saying "Yes" give the textbox of "You knock so quietly you can barely hear it... Seems like [insert name of homeowner] didn't either." Interacting with any given door an additional time after knocking just gives the textbox "You don't want to get in trouble." -> Interacting with the thrift store window says that its too dark to see inside, but that 'If you press your ear up to the glass, you can almost hear white noise. For some reason, it the sound comforts you.' If You interact with the door, You find its actually unlocked and You can go inside. You can interact with various things inside, but of course, the way forward is interacting with the back room door, which visibly has darkness leaking out from beneath it. Interacting prompts the textboxes- "You can hear white noise loudly emanating from somewhere behind the door." "Go inside?". Same as with the front door, picking "No" just makes Frisk take a step back and lets you look around more. Picking "Yes" has Frisk open the door and jump into the darkness, starting the dark world section.
Frisk actually starts this Dark World off alone before Wyolfe shows up (with Spamton and Jevil tagging along, which Wyolfe actually voices that he didn't want them to come along- he clarifies that he likes them and is always happy to have them around, but never gives his actual reason for not wanting them to come along.) Wyolfe explains that he just 'had a feeling' and is confused as to how Frisk got to a Dark World without going through Castle Town (which is where the Dark World under their bed leads to) first. Not that Wyolfe doesn't know there's other entrances, he does, but he also knows its nighttime in the light world right now so shouldn't frisk be at home?
and then the rest of the dark world stuff happens, Knight, etc etc. After the Knight battle and it running away, the others tell Frisk that they'll go find Tenna but for Frisk to 'not let it (the Knight) get away', so Frisk chases it to the Light World in the same way Kris and Susie do, and is similarly unable to catch up to it. Frisk returns to the TV World dark world and Wyolfe tells them that Tenna will be fine and to just purify the fountain and head home before their mom notices they're gone, since it'll be morning soon.
Frisk does so, and chapter 4 starts with them in their room being woken up by Toriel. I don't have a lot to write for Chapter 4 yet, the start generally follows along similarly to Deltarune Chapter 4's start with Toriel bringing them to church etc etc- though Toriel does ask Frisk if they went outside last night and seems somewhat nervous- there's no option to answer that question, its just implied that Frisk answers "no," with Toriel accepting that and starting to say something about how she just thought they might have because... (the door was unlocked) but cuts herself of (because if Frisk is telling the truth, which she's choosing to take their word for the moment, it means either she forgot to lock it or... something. and she doesn't want to mention that to a small child because that's bound to result in them getting scared... or it would be if Frisk ACTUALLY didn't do it themselves, but, yknow.)

So, does Rudy train Jevil like how Gerson trains Susie ? Also... If Rudy does die in a later chapter in deltarune, would that also happen to Gerson in this AU ? (does Frisk also go around the town talking to the monsters in the lightworld after every dark world adventure ? Knowing them they probably do)
Kind of ! I think, Spamton gets to have his character dynamic with Tenna where- even though this version of Spamton and Tenna don't have a past history- chapter 3 is verrry affected by Spamton and Tenna's banter back and fourth, and then Chapter 4 gets to be Rudy and Jevil having a dynamic with each other (and other character dynamics too, but like how the Susie Gerson thing was pretty central, I think the Jevil and Rudy dynamic is pretty central here.) I'll definitely be drawing/sharing some stuff about it later! (a wee bit busy with artfight rn lol)
As for that second point... Mayyyyybe? I don't want to link UT!Gerson's fate to DR!Rudy's since they (the LIVING versions) play different roles ultimately (even if their Deceased versions are playing the same role)- Rudy's death I imagine would have a much, much more direct impact on the narrative of Deltarune considering how interconnected the Holidays and Dreemurrs are to the plot in Deltarune. Of course, Gerson IS still connected to a bunch of people and his death would have an impact on things but also there's already a few Light World plots going on and the MAIN plot of the Light World is already VERY related to the 7 prior Fallen Humans whom are all dead so... Seems like a bit of overkill to add another person's death to it all, y'know?
And yes! If this was a game format Frisk would be able to go around town and talk to everyone at the START of a chapter, since the adventures in the Dark Worlds always happen at night when they go to bed; The end of each chapter would be them 'waking up' for the day after leaving the Dark World which then would lead into the Light World 'day' section of the next chapter.

What causes the start of the bonus round crash out in this AU ? Since Toriel seems to not be in the TV world
I don't have the exacts in my chapter outline yet, but generally its just that the gang (I really need to come up with something like "Fun Gang" to call them, huh?) figures out that Tenna's actively trying to keep them (mostly Frisk, but by extension Wyolfe, Spamton, and Jevil too) there. Most likely, they overhear him talking to his employees and trying to plan how to block off access to the Dark Fountain so Frisk can't purify it, therefore, can't leave.
#talk tag#deltarune bt#dr bt#answer#ask#i need to fully replay deltarune so i can write down changes in what would happen as it happens.#especially since i'd like to revise some of the chapter 1 and 2 stuff with Current Information but details on how those chapters play out i#fuzzy. in my head#i'll try to work on that during my breaks from working on artfight stuff probably.
