I love a mini-series. I love 8 to 12 episodes and then it's done forever. I love leaving things ambiguous, a mystery forever. I love deliberate storytelling. Not everything needs a season 2.

Hi Mike! So I recently finished the Fall of the House of Usher and I loved it so much that I binged Midnight Mass for the first time today - which I also loved. I have a question, though, now that I've finished it: how did Father Paul die? It seemed like he was coughing up the same poison that killed Joe's poor dog, but I'm not sure why Bev would have poisoned him or why he was coughing up blood before that. Did I miss something?

I've seen a lot of people theorizing that Bev poisoned him, but that isn't the case. He died because he had ingested enough of the creature's blood to trigger the next phase of his transformation. Everyone on the island who was taking communion eventually would have died the same way, it's just a transitional event that makes someone fully become a vampire. First, the blood prepares the body by healing/restoring it to its physical prime, but then it kills the body so that it can be reborn. He and Bev decided to speed up everyone's process by poisoning them at the Midnight Mass, but the reason they didn't feel bad about that is that they knew (based on what happened to Fr Paul) that they would eventually transition the same way anyway.

Father Paul/Monsignor Pruitt has many pitfalls as both a priest and a human being but I will forever be grateful that being homophobic wasn’t one of them. Yes, Mike Flanagan. Challenge homosexuality being a sin to those in power in the church. I see you.
