"no group of trans people has inherent power over another group of trans people" to emphasise that afab privilege isn't a thing and that trans men don't have the same privilege as cis men isn't the good take you think it is.
because you are erasing the reality of the privilege that binary trans people do have over nonbinary people.
but exorsexism doesn't even cross into general trans discussions, they only tend to focus on transmisogyny and transandromisia and how transmascs, transfems, trans women, trans men, afab people or amab people either do or don't have privilege over the other group (you know, the only other group that exists because of course it's binary). none of them take into account exorsexism nonbinary people specifically and explicitly, they only "include" us by lumping us in with whatever is convenient.
since all those conversations about "AGAB privilege" or "transmasc privilege" are binary, of course the response is going to be binary too, or only inclusive of nonbinary experiences on the most basic level.
you all are way too busy separating us into trans men/transmascs, trans women/transfems and nonbinary people to a) properly acknowledge the overlap between these groups and b) don't take into account an important level of privilege and power: having a binary gender.
it is correct that as a whole, trans men and trans women, transmascs and transfems, amab people and afab people do not have privilege over each other. but don't forget that having a binary gender does come with privilege, and that binary trans people as a whole have privilege over nonbinary people. binary trans men and women do have privilege over all nonbinary people, including nonbinary trans men and women.
they don't have that privilege though because they are trans men or trans women or because of their AGAB, they have that privilege because of their binary gender.
in your attempts to be inclusive, please don't forget about all the privileges that binary trans people have access to but we don't.

it's demigender awareness day, so i tried to do something.
i tried making a demimaverique symbol based on the comet symbol, and based on other demigender symbols being "half" symbols of their allogender counterpart.

Introducing Lumale, a new distinct gender identity
I have never really felt like "male" or "female" describe me. I can't explain why, but I have always felt like my gender is different: neither female nor male, but not a lack of gender.
"Maverique" is the closest specific existing term for how I feel; in essence, it's exactly what I described. Still, I have the same problem with it that I have with simply calling myself "non-binary" or "genderqueer," which is that the term feels like it doesn't "fit" with male and female.
This label is perfectly fine, of course! I just don't think it suits me. I want to feel like I am alongside male and female but like... different in the same way that male and female are different, I guess. Like different but only as different as they are from each other. I don't know.
So I have decided to create my own label, "Lumale," and I would like to share this label in case it helps anyone who feels similar to me.
I like to describe my gender as "yellow", where male is blue and female is red/pink. It has neither of those colors in it but it is still a color, just like Lumale has neither of those genders in it but still is a gender.
Lumale comes from the latin "lumen" meaning "light" and the "male" ending for "male" and "female." I think that it is fitting since yellow is associated with the sun and light.
Here is a list of gendered terms that could be used and the male/female/neutral equivalents:
Lumale: male/female (lumen + -male)
Luman: man/woman/human (lumen + -man)
Lume: boy/girl/kid (short for lumale/luman)
Milles (pronounced "mills"): Mister/Miss(es)/Mix
Mls.: Mr./M(r)s./Mx. (abbreviation of milles)
Ils (pronounced "ills"): sir/ma'am (short for milles)
If this resonates with anyone I would love to hear!

i don't want to hear "nonbinary people don't owe you androgyny" again until people stop expecting masculinity or femininity from me. i don't want to hear it again until trans people force masculinity on me because of my agab. i don't want to hear it again until cis people stop expecting masculinity from me to prove that i'm not a woman, but then they say i'm a binary trans man anyway. i don't want to hear it again until androgyny and all other non-masc-non-fem ways of gender presentation are properly recognised beyond "vaguely masculine". i don't want to hear it until at the very least the trans community stops centring masculinity and femininity in everything, putting nonbinary people in yet another binary. i don't want to hear it until people stop labelling me fem when i wear a dress. i don't want to hear it until people stop telling me i'm not trying hard enough for not being masc. i don't want to hear it until people stop disregarding anything and everything outside masc and fem. i don't want to hear it until an expectation of androgyny in nonbinary people is actually a real thing. (hint: it's not. they always want us to be masc or fem for simplicity or to prove we're not our AGAB, otherwise they'll accuse us of not trying hard enough.)
like, i'm not even androgynous, i'm just maverique, but when people say "nonbinary people don't owe you androgyny", they only say that to prop up masc and fem nonbinary people while continuing to erase everyone else, and they simply can't even conceive of anything beyond masc, fem or andro.
nonbinary people don't owe you proximity to the binary.

Faegender:
(Alternate spellings may include fairygender, faeriegender, etc.)
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A gender that relates to fae/faery/fairies (or other spellings of these beings!) in some way. One who is faegender may have been fae in a past life or identifies with faeries in some manner, perhaps feeling mystical or having a deep connection to gender.
This identity is NOT appropriation as faeries/fae are different spellings of a being from the same root words. They are NOT exclusive to one's culture, and in this usage, they are used in their most basic form: beings who are enchanted/magical, mystical, and deeply connected with nature.

Things I've seen tumblr memeing about James Somerton doing 脿 la "How did no one see how bigoted he was!" as if those things haven't been a significant part of tumblr culture for over a decade :
Presenting untrue and bordering on conspiratorial versions of (queer or otherwise marginalised) history without any sources
Completely disregarding and disrespecting any expertise on socio-cultural topics/humanities and distrusting academics and historians (incl. acting as if no academics or historians could be queer or marginalised)
Downplaying the role misogyny played in the historical oppression of queer women and concluding that queer men must have been more oppressed than queer women
Bi women are, at best, not as queer as "real" queer ppl, and at worst, simply equivalent to straight women
Despite nominal trans inclusivity, transmasculine ppl are functionally women when convenient (combined with the above, bi transmascs are functionally straight women)
Despite nominal trans inclusivity (bis), shamelessly attacking, threatening and actively endangering any trans woman who questions them or smth they find important (often by unfairly presenting her as violent or as a threat)
Having absolutely fucking wild and reductive takes about ace ppl, the oppression they face and their place in the queer community
Stating that marriage equality is an assimilationist fight while completely ignoring its direct roots in the horrifying consequences of the AIDS crisis for partners of ppl who died of AIDS
Praising western media creators from the past for queer coding even under censure and in the same breath condemning current non western media creators for being homophobic bc their representation isn't explicit enough
Blaming China for all existing homophobic censoring in western media
Assuming all queer media would be better told by western creators and by western standards
Only out queer ppl get to tell queer stories
Heavily criticising almost all queer media created by women or ppl they see as such (see above points about trans ppl) or involving/starring a significant amount of women for any perceived or real amount of "problematicness", but fawning over and praising and negating criticism of queer media created by and starring mostly or even functionally exclusively men (even when it could be argued that, you know, not involving/seriously sidelining women is a pretty clear example of misogyny which should probably be considered "problematic")
And I'm probably forgetting stuff or there's stuff I have internalised myself and don't recognise as an issue
Like idk but I feel like the takeaway from Hbomberguy and Toddintheshadow's videos should maybe be "be aware of such patterns in your communities bc they definitely exist" and not "this guy is uniquely awful" and I feel like a lot of the discussion I've seen surrounding this has been severely failing at that. Most ppl who've spent any significant amount of time on tumblr prob either have internalised at least one of those thought patterns, have had to de-internalise them, or have had to be extremely vigilant to not internalise them (which is done by, you know, seeking out other sources, which also seemed like an important takeaway from the videos)

Daily reminder that binary trans people are not nonbinary. Quit trying to act like you're one of us. I don't give a fuck what cis people think, your gender is binary. You're not the real nonbinary people, period.

hey maveriques and allies!
the 31st may has been declared maverique visibility day a while ago as that was when maverique was first coined.
the 31st may 2024 is the 10-year anniversary of the coining of maverique.
i feel like this might be a great opportunity for us and our allies to do something to increase visibility of and awareness for maveriques.
i already have a vague plan for a maverique episode on my podcast and i will post something on my instagram as well.
if anyone else has ideas about what we can do as a community, hit me up!
it's time for us to finally move past only being featured as an obscure nonbinary identity, together. it's time for us to be known.

"abinary people can be gay, lesbian, veldian & straight" & "orientations that are explicitly inclusive of abinary people need more visibility and to be taken more seriously" are two statements that can and should coexist.
i see way too much "abinary people can be lesbian etc." and not nearly enough people lifting up orientations that are more explicit in our genders or in people's attraction to us. tbh, this is true for midbinary genders too. there's way more "nonbinary people can use [orientation with binary connotations]" and not enough "look at these orientations that honour us".
trixic, toric, enbian and other mestric labels for specific genders deserve as much love as lesbian, sapphic, gay, achillean, veldian.
not to forget there are many people who are both! for some people, "gay" just doesn't tell the full story and they might identify as a toric gay specifically.
all abinary experiences of orientation deserve visibility.
