Wig, okay. SO. My laptop finally died on me this week. It’s fine, it was already older when it was given to me way back in 2013 I’m pretty sure, so this is just the inevitable conclusion. But anyway, that’s just another annoyance and another thing I have to spend money on that I would have rather I hadn’t this year. Anyway, I know I’m not much active on here as it is but just wanted to let you all know.
I think when I get a new laptop, I’ll probably buy a new tablet at the same time and kill two birds with one stone as it goes. We’ll see.

I’m alive but unfortunately still busy/otherwise preoccupied.
In my hiatus, I’ve decided that I’m going to keep my NC Clans as a concept and just do random things with them instead of trying to make stories with them. That way I can have all the characters interact without worrying about logistics or trying to create plot threads for them.
I think I’m getting some ideas about new characters I’d like to make and do stuff for, however. Hopefully when I find the time I can get some planning done. When I’m able too, though, I don’t think I’ll be posting anything until I have at least a little bit of a backlog so I can get back to having things to post regularly.

Here’s a commission of my fursona I had done by @an-actual-artist! Leo’s a swell and talented guy and very helpful and accommodating to work with.
I love this picture SO much, the expression, the pose, the clothing-especially the blue marlin (one of my favorite ocean species) patch, it looks just like the real deal . VERY happy with the result! Thanks again, Leo!

So, there’s a lot of important things that’s going to be happening to me this month and next month but I’m hoping that by the end of May, I’ll be able to start working on my art stuff more in earnest and hopefully get you folks interested in it all! Thanks for bearing with me, I’m sorry I haven’t been able to put out lots of stuff.

Here’s some of my old artwork. This is from early 2012. This is some of the last stuff I ever worked on before just straight up stopped drawing/began drawing only once in a blue moon after the end of summer of that year. I’ve been struggling with consistent drawing (and just struggling in general, tbh) ever since then, really, and now that I’m an adult, I think I find it even harder to draw even when I do have the time. I do *try* to make the most of it when I do feel like drawing, though. A quality over quantity sort of deal.
In response to a legitimate problem of people tearing into people too much about bad art or doing embarrassing (or thought to be) yet harmless things, it’s not so popular any more to actually not like whatever dumb or bad things you did when you were a kid to the point where I’ve seen artists post their old art from when they were much younger and not even say they hate it despite not being very good and actually celebrate it only to have a bunch of people think that even that gentle ribbing (if you could call it that) means that those artists think those peoples’ art is shit. Obviously, not as big an issue or as harmful as people getting harassed for not being master artists is, but I think it’s a good thing an artist can look at old work and call it bad and have the place it comes from not be from wallowing self-loathing or embarrassment but from a recognition that there can and has been improvement since. I have a bunch of old art, some of it I don’t like to look at much because it’s just not good even for my skill level at the time.
These though, I’m quite proud of. I think these are very stiff and awkward at times for sure, but beyond that, it’s obvious I had a good eye for dog anatomy even if I couldn’t quite make my hands do what I wanted them to.
Yoshihiro Takahashi was and will always be an enormous influence on my art. I don’t even think I have any art from before I watched Ginga (so pre 2007) to show for comparison so, in a way, essentially, all the art I’ve ever drawn of dogs has always had at least some Takahashi influence. I’ve always been thinking of how real dogs move and look when I draw as well but I didn’t really understand or use referencing in full force until I started drawing again a couple years back. Now I primarily draw felines for the time being and coming from a canine background, it’s sooo frustrating at times trying to figure out how they work. There’s even work on here I’m wondering why I ever posted cuz it’s not the kind of quality I want to put out when I know I can do better. I’m constantly pushing myself to do better when I draw: be more flexible, find the balance of realism and caricature, ect. and I’m comfortable with that. I want to be the best artist that I can be which I know takes time. After years of not constantly drawing, it sort of feels like the last year and a half has been about essentially learning to draw all over again with some previous knowledge.
I’m getting there, though! And I’m glad people are interested enough to follow me through this process.
