i’ve been waiting for release day (TODAY!!!!) for THE UNSPOKEN NAME by AK Larkwood since what feels like the dawn of time but is in fact apparently only 4 months??? aka when i got my ARC and ruined three consecutive nights of sleep to finish it and then lost my goddamn mind, never to be relocated.

THE UNSPOKEN NAME is a swashbuckling tale of magic and adventure and spaceships and orcs and necromancers and snake wizards (snizards) that stars the following cast:

csorwe, aka goth orc lesbian eliot spencer who grew up in a weirdo death cult but then is like nah imma be an assassin

shuthmili, her magic girlfriend who is a huge fucking nerd who has never smiled or experienced a feeling even one time in her whole life

her mentor belthandros sethennai, a Shitty Wizard Who Lives For The Drama™️ who spends 99.9% of his time playing dress up and lecturing people

talasseres charossa, the closest thing she has to a friend except they share one brain cell and they spend 99% of their time fighting over it. think “what if draco malfoy but dumber and somehow MORE petty”. tal likes cause problems on purpose but unfortunately 100% of those problems are his problems, because he’s Dumb

and oranna, a pissed-off bisexual murder librarian whose entire driving force in life is petty revenge on her ex. oranna can never be convicted of a single crime ever because 1) she has no peers so they’d never come up with a jury and 2) her defense for literally all the murders is “i needed to prove my shitty wizard ex wrong, girl power” NO JUDGE OR JURY WOULD CONVICT

anyway it’s fucking incredible.

(also jokes aside it was probably the best book i read last year from a craft perspective, truly this book has everything, please read it you will not regret it)
