And one day he might become a master of soccer
Derek x MC Week Day 4 - AU
Hosted by @derek-week-event
Set in an AU equivalent to just before Step 3.
Last time on Soccer Star Suarez:
"This is looking bad! Derek Suarez is ten points behind Cove Holden! If he doesn't catch up soon it's all over! Cove Holden will become the champion of One-on-One Soccer!" shouted the announcer to the filled stadium.
"You should stop punishing yourself. There's no way you can beat me," said Cove. Derek, breathing hard and looking rough just gritted his teeth as he glared at Cove.
In the stands Patricia held her hands in front of herself as if in prayer. "Derek..."
Now, we continue!
"Derek..."
Terri balled her hands into fists. "We can't give up! If we stop believing in Derek it's all over!"
"But Terri," said Miranda, "How can he possibly bring this back? Cove is just too far ahead."
"I don't know, but this can't be the end!" said Terri.
While Terri and Miranda argued about logistics Patricia thought to herself. She thought about all the times Derek had helped her out by giving his all to make things right. How he never wanted to leave her without a smile. How he was a master of making the impossible possible. "Terri's right..." Her two friends looked at her. "We can't give up now! We have to believe in Derek!" She stood up and shouted towards the field, "You can do it Derek!" Terri and Miranda, inspired, joined in on her cheering.
On the field Derek was having doubts about his ability to win. Then the sound of Patricia's voice hit his ear. He grinned and stood up. "I will never give in, Cove. Because I always have a plan!" Cove took a step back. It was almost as if he could see an aura of power glowing around Derek. He could swear he heard the sound of some kind of theme song. With that Derek shot forward and took the ball from Cove. Derek moved the ball several feet down the field. There was barely any time left on the clock. As Cove tried to close in to take back the ball Derek knew it was now or never. He lifted his foot back and got ready for the kick of his career. With all the force he could muster he kicked the ball from just beyond the halfway point. The ball flew straight through the air as if shot out of a cannon. Not only did it make it to the goal, but it shot right through the net and hit the wall behind it!
A horn blared and all eyes were on the judges. They talked amongst themselves and it felt like it took forever to wait for the verdict. In the end they awarded that goal eleven points.
"What a comeback!" shouted the announcer, "I've never seen anything like that in all my years! This year's champion of One-on-One Soccer is Derek Suarez!"
The crowd went wild with cheers and celebration! Patricia, Terri, and Miranda rushed onto the field. Patricia jumped into Derek's waiting arms. "You did it!" she shouted.
"I couldn't have done it without you," admitted Derek, "Your belief in me gave me strength." The two of them smiled at each other.
Cove came up and stuck out a hand that Derek gladly shook. "You're one of a kind, Derek. There's no one I would rather have as my rival."
"Same to you, Cove," said Derek. They relished in the brotherly bond of true rivals before Cove walked away. Derek shouted after him, "Hey, feel free to join us later! We'll get pizza to celebrate!" Cove simply waved his hand without looking back.
At the awards ceremony Derek proudly held his trophy up for the world to see. He was happy, but he knew that out there were more tournaments to win. He couldn't call himself a master of soccer just yet. He still had to prove himself.

THIS DESIGNS SLAPS !!!!
Day 4 of Derek MC week, AU!! @derek-week-event
zombie apocalypse AU is my fave so yk i had to do it 😼😼
also here a (really long) ramble of zombie apocalypse au under cut
PLS HEAR ME OUT GUYS ITS ALL IVE BEEN THINKING ABOUT PLS PLS PLS PLS PLS PLS
Zombie apocalypse AU where Derek and Koi were part of the same settlement, But were in different "sections"
Derek would be a runner whos job was to mark places on the map where it would be good to scavenge, other settlements (hostile or not) and then report back.
Koi was one of the few teens who were being directly taught to be group leaders. so he would be learning how to shoot a gun/bow and arrow, meelee + hand to hand combat, first aid, etc. etc.
they probably met when derek came back from one of his missions injured, and koi was the one who was treating him. their meetings where often like that, but whenever derek wasnt on a mission he'd sneak away to watch koi train.
then there was a 'leak' in the settlement where everything went downhill from there. people where forced to flee and run. Koi and Derek inevitably got seperated.
Derek was able to run with his whole family (which is difficult considering they have TWO small kids)
Koi wasn't so lucky on the other hand... Koi was able to regroup with Rue since they both had a secret spot where they meetup. later the two where able to find cove who was hiding in the forest, but none of them were able to find their family.
Koi ended up taking the leadership role having training in that (and being the slightly oldest of the 3) Elizabeth was able to regroupe with their moms, and cliff went solo.
for 5 years (around the time between step 2 and 3) no one was able to find eachother. derek was still with his family, Koi was still with Rue and Cove.
Around this time Koi actually catches a glimpse of Derek, He saw him in the window of a moving family van. Koi tried to catch up but ultimately lost sight of him.
Between step 3 and 4, the trio (Koi, Rue, + Cove) double their efforts in searching for derek since they know hes alive. in that time they run into cliff, and much later find the rest of their family (Elizabeth and moms)
By the time its step 4 is when koi runs into derek, literally. they were scavenging in the same mall and koi thought derek was an enemy, so he clocked his shit and broke dereks nose (its ok they made up 🫰)
(also for fun, cove would be a leaders assistant, whos job was to accompany group leaders on missions and carry supplies, OR he'd be a scavenger who's job was to take discarded junk (like old car parts or smthn) and repurpose it into items the settlement could use (like weponds or house parts)
Rue would be in charge of food and inventory, allocating what was found+ rationing it out, AND AND she would help feed the dogs the settlement has(maybe cats too idk) Koi would also be teaching her everything he learns in secret because he doesn't wanna lose his sibling ☹️
Elizabeth would def be helping look after kids younger than 10 or so, but in her spare time she also often gives helps with what and where to build things(and some strategies and tactics) considering shes one of the oldest teens in the settlement (koi tries to teach her what he learns too but she refuses))

Derek Suarez Week Day 1: Pinky promise
For @derek-week-event. I had forgotten about this during the summer but here I am - late but ready to contribute because Derek deserves all the goodness from the fandom too.
The phone rings as it lays on the pile of homework on the desk that he hasn’t gotten to yet. It plays a song that he once saw in concert - a long time ago. It’s what jolts him awake from his slumber on the bed. His guess is he had fallen asleep on his stomach sometime after coming home from school and now tries to to rub the sleep from his eyes as he answers.
Switching on the display the light almost blinds him and he winces before swiping on the little phone icon.
“Mmmyealloo…” he slurs as a yawn breaks free from his jaws. It would have embarrassed him if he’d been more awake to care.
“Uh…. Hi, it’s me” her voice is clear and though she sounds confused there’s a hint of amusement. “Sorry, Did I wake you?”
He lets out a small chuckle “Yeah… you caught me, uh - what time is it anyway?” He takes a turn around his bed to look at the clock radio standing on the bedside table showing ‘8PM’ in purple neon light.
“Ugh… Oh shoot… I keep forgetting the different time zones. Well it’s 5PM here in California, I was just gonna have my dinner here in my dorm and thought I could call you because you probably were having dinner too.”
“Aww, I could probably swing that if… you just give me a few minutes. I haven’t eaten since lunch so… yeah a few minutes - Can I call you on video chat in maybe 10 minutes?”
She lets out a sigh that sends a delightful tingle down his spine through the cell phone. “Alright, but don’t take too long because my take out is getting cold as we speak”
“Derek’s back!” she shouts at him with a laugh as her image pops up on his laptop. “So what are you having? I’m having some lo mein but I also got some orange chicken and soup… Will probably have some of that for lunch tomorrow though”
“PB&J” he smiles and waves with the, clearly made in a rush, sandwich in his hand.
“That’s all? Peak nutritional value” she smirks at him as she twirls the noodles with a black plastic fork.
“I also got some BBQ chips and a protein shake… nearly all the food groups are covered” he teases as he opens the bag of chips with a distinct pop.
“Alright but promise me you’ll have something… more substantial for dinner tomorrow” she holds up her pinky towards the webcam and him. "Pinky promise"
He chuckles with a deep rumble in his chest at her silliness but holds up his pinky to “Pinky promise”

No worries if you feel late, the host is also late- enjoying all the entries !!!
1. Pinky Promise
You were sitting on the beach together, enjoying the tray of fruit you bought for the occasion. You made sure to add plenty of mango. Cove had already left for work, not so sneakily winking at you as he left you and Derek alone. You blushed and dramatically fell back into the sand, covering your face. Derek tried to hide his chuckle behind his hand.
This was the last weekend you both had free before you left for college. You would be staying local, so not much was changing for you. Derek had gotten a soccer scholarship at Clemson. You were beyond excited for him, but it felt like you would never see him again. Sadness started creeping in at the reminder. This might actually be the last time you saw him, and the thought broke your heart. Sure you had promised to marry when you were older if you were both still single, but there was no way Derek would still be single.
And if he really wanted to date you he would have told you by now. You sighed and sat up causing Derek to look at you with concern.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing really. I was just thinking how much I will miss you.”
“We only get to see each other a few weekends in summer already, but we can still call and text as much as you want. I know it's not the same though.”
“Yeah, but want if you get to college and make way better friends?”
Derek rolled his eyes. “Not possible.”
“Obviously possible and likely. And you will meet someone you like and get married and never come back and I will never come back and..” You were breathing faster and faster as the words fell out of your mouth.
He pulled you into a hug and rubbed you back until your breathing slowed down. “Hey. It’s ok. None of that is going to happen.” He soothed.
“I'm sorry. That’s selfish of me. I want you to be happy wherever you end up. I just don’t want to be left behind. Ignore me. I'm being stupid.”
“I promise, that is never going to happen.” He grinned at you and held out his pinky.
You giggled and linked your pinky with his. “Pinky promise it is. Now I know it’s true. I promise too. We are going to always be a team.”

I am off to a late start.....

My heart…
Derek x MC Week Day 3 - Pining
Hosted by @derek-week-event
Set between Steps 3 and 4
Mario's tires squealed as he drifted around the corner. A built up boost rushed him towards the finish line. First place was his for sure! But little did he know that Waluigi was right behind him with a green shell prepared. With the precision of a sniper Waluigi threw the shell and hit Mario square on. Mario's kart spun out and Waluigi passed right on by. Then DK, then Toad, then a red shell hit Mario, then Bowser, Rosalina, and Toadette passed him, then Wario hit Mario with a bullet bill to pass by too, then Ludwig and Dry Bones went past as well, finally Mario was allowed to move forward and claim tenth place.
In real life Patricia fell back on the couch in her dorm and groaned. "How could you do this to me?"
In his apartment, miles away, Derek responded, "Sorry, but all's fair in love, war, and Mario Kart."
Patricia laughed at that. "Man... You're lucky you aren't sitting next to me. I would pull out some of your dad's tactics next race."
"Then I would have to borrow some tricks from Nico," countered Derek. That got the two of them laughing again.
When the laughter calmed down Patricia said, "It would be nice to see you in person again though."
"Yeah. That would be nice," said Derek, "That would be nice." Neither of them could break out of their thoughts to say anything else. Derek broke the silence by saying, "It sucks to be busy adults, huh?"
"It does!" said Patricia, "Do you think you'll be able to make it down to Sunset Bird this summer?"
"I'll try my best!" said Derek. A response that had become an unfortunately familiar trend when it came to discussing breaks. After that they returned their focus to the game.

Oooooh good read !
Day 3: Pining (Derek Suarez x Larisa Last (MC))
@derek-week-event
summary: Larisa has a phone call with Derek which in turn, leads her to think about the deal that had made right before summer ended.
if you’d rather read it on ao3 it’s right here: https://archiveofourown.org/works/59182804
It was Friday, and school had just ended for the day. Larisa opened the front door to her house, relieved that the weekend was here. She quickly closed the door behind her and kicked off her shoes.
Larisa hurriedly greeted her moms before heading upstairs to finish her homework—who gives homework on the weekends? Larisa’s worst enemy: her math teacher, Ms. Woodstill. Once she reached her room, Larisa tossed her backpack onto her bed before flopping down and groaning a bit. After her groaning session, she pulled herself up from her comfortable bed, grabbed her backpack, unzipped it, and pulled out the worksheet that was stuffed inside.
After placing the worksheet on her desk, she smoothed out the wrinkles caused by carelessly stuffing the paper into her bag. Larisa then plopped down in her desk chair and got to work.
—
It took her a while, but she finally finished her assignment. As Larisa stretched her back, she stood up and stuffed the worksheet back into her backpack.
Guess all that smoothing out was for nothing, huh?
Anyways, Larisa rushed out of her room, making her way to the home phone downstairs. As she did, she crossed her fingers, hoping no one got to the phone before her.
When she made it to the living room, Larisa let out an internal sigh of relief, seeing the phone in its cradle. She lifted it into one hand and quickly entered a phone number, bouncing her leg excitedly as she waited for someone to pick up.
“Hello, Suarez residence,” she heard a familiar feminine voice say.
“Hello, Mrs. Suarez! This is Larisa! Um, is Derek available?” She tried her best not to sound too excited. “Hey, Larisa!” Mrs. Suarez hummed, “Yes, he is. Hold on a moment; I’ll get him.” Larisa grinned and started to play with the hem of her skirt. “Thank you!”
Larisa made sure to call Derek every week, eager to keep him updated on everything happening in Sunset Bird. Well, it’s more like she was eager to talk with Derek.
Soon, Larisa heard Derek’s voice come through the phone speaker. “Larisa, hey!” She returned his greeting and made idle chatter with him as she went back into her room. “So, how’s school been so far?” Derek asked as Larisa sat on her bed. “It’s been… okay,” she began. “Some of my classes are really stressful, but I’m Larisa Last; I can handle it.” She chuckled, laying back on her bed with the phone still in hand. “Right, you can! Just know that I’m here to support you no matter what. We’re still Team Last, after all!” Derek’s words made Larisa’s smile grow softer and her stomach flutter. “Right!”
For some odd reason, Derek’s words made her think back on that deal they had made—about getting married if they were still single when they were older.
Larisa imagined wearing a beautiful, colorful wedding dress and what Derek would look like dressed in a tasteful suit. Well, if they do get married in the future, Cove has to be Larisa’s best man. Er, butler of honor?
‘What’s the masculine version of maid of honor?’ she wondered to herself.
Anyways, the wedding cake would be chocolate because chocolate is the best flavor of all time, obviously. The cake would be covered in pastel frosting with white edible decorations. It would take place somewhere fancy.
Oh, yes! Larisa was getting excited just thinking about it! She just had to be patient and wait ten years, then she and Derek would have their perfect wedding.
Her daydream was soon interrupted by the man of the hour speaking up. “Uh, Larisa? Everything alright?” he asked, concerned.
“Hm? Sorry, I was lost in thought…” Larisa responded, embarrassment creeping over her. “Anyways, how’s school been for you?” She tried to keep her voice as neutral as possible.
“Don’t sweat it!” Derek said. “School’s been alright. I’ve mainly been focusing on sports and stuff.” Larisa acknowledged this before continuing to talk with Derek.
Unfortunately, their conversation was cut short by the familiar sound of stomping. The stomper opened the door, and there she was—Elizabeth. Larisa’s giddy smile was replaced by a small pout, realizing that she had been on the phone for too long.
Elizabeth smirked at the sight and stated matter-of-factly, “Time’s up.”
“Sorry, Derek, I gotta go. Bye!” Larisa sighed as she said her goodbyes. “I understand. Talk to you later!” he replied. Larisa pressed the end call button, but before she knew it, the phone was whisked out of her hand, and Elizabeth was out of her room.
Thankfully, she closed the door behind her.
—
Larisa was finally alone in her room—alone with her thoughts.
She hopped off her bed and grabbed her sketchbook and pencil that were tossed on top of her dresser. With her sketchbook in hand, Larisa flopped back onto her bed. She smiled to herself and opened up her sketchbook to a blank page.
Holding the pencil properly, she began to sketch a figure similar to herself. After cleaning up the sketch a bit, Larisa carefully drew out a wedding dress.
She pulled the pencil away from the paper and looked over her drawing. The dress was fitted at the top and then flowed at the bottom; it was sleeveless and floor-length. Larisa put the eraser part of the pencil to her lips, pondering what color the dress should be.
Purple? Light blue? Or would a passionate red be more suited? Or should she stick with pastel?
‘Whatever,’ she thought, closing her sketchbook and sitting up to stretch. ‘Ten years is a long way away; I have enough time to decide.’
Larisa hoped that no one would steal Derek’s heart before then.
She put away her sketchbook for safekeeping as she continued to ponder her future with Derek.
‘If we get married, I want Derek to take my last name. Derek Last… would he be okay with that?’ Larisa smiled to herself as she started to head out of her room. ‘I guess I wouldn’t mind being Larisa Suarez.’
She twisted the doorknob, opened the door, and left the sanctuary of her room, thoughts of her and Derek swirling in her mind.
