A day trip to DC....say what?!
Yesterday I took a day trip to Washington DC (how many times can you say that in your lifetime, for me not that many).
Anyways I took a 7:40am Megabus to Washington DC's Union Station. From there I walked to the Capitol Building. I walked all the way around it. From there I made my way to the Newseum. That was pretty impressive. For those of you who don't know, the Newseum is a museum about what it sounds like, the news. It has the major news stories and artifacts from those stories such as the Unibomber, the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the JFK assassination and more. I got to see a section of the actual Berlin wall, the tower piece that was on top of the World Trade Center, and just about every major news story covered since, well, since they have been covered.
From there I made the little jaunt to the White House (when I say little jaunt, I mean a rather long walk). But I got to see the north lawn of the White House.
From there I walked to the World War II Memorial, the reflection pool, and the Lincoln Memorial. That was quite a sight looking down the mall at the Washington monument (which is being repaired so it was a little covered up) and the Capitol Building off in the distance.
From the Lincoln Memorial I saw the Korean War memorial and walked to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. It was a little disappointing because I couldn't see the permanent exhibit because all the tickets had been given out. I did get to see the memorial hall with candles and the ever burning flame which was very eerie.
From there I walked the mall to the Capitol Building and continued to Union Station where I hopped on a 6:30pm Megabus back to NYC.
It was a fun, full day, and since this was my last weekend in NYC, I thought it was a perfect thing to end on.
Thanks for reading, pictures coming soon!
