i will say this until i’m blue in the face but i love the reoccurring motifs in taz balance like. shut the fuck up what do you mean crystal kingdom happened bc a son loved his mom. what do you mean the eleventh hour happened bc a dad loved his daughter. because a mom wanted to be with her babies again. what do you mean that so much of everything was built upon the voidfish wanting to be with its child.

started my first re-listen of taz balance since starting it in 2018 (?)

and i just wanted to explore what their origin backgrounds were vs the characters they ended up becoming... they are interesting...

Been thinking about these guys again lately ❤ tweaked their designs now that I know how to draw adult men a little better than I did in high school LMAO

Ok but Taako who is old both because he’s an elf and because he didn’t age at all for a full century, who over that 100 years has been just about as involved in the world as you can get learning and researching, but on a different world every single year where everything he learns becomes entirely useless for anyone but his family after it’s context is obliterated by the Hunger

Vs Kravitz who is old by virtue of being dead and has spent countless years in one world but entirely removed from it, only sporadically even taking physical form until he meets Taako

These two start a household that knows jack shit about this world! Pop culture? Forget it. The biggest sports team in Neverwinter? They’ve never even heard of that sport much less the team. Taako speaks Mongoose but he doesn’t know how to find Killian’s pulse. Kravitz lived through the Fantasy Roaring Twenties but he doesn’t even know because he interacted with exclusively necromancers the whole time. Carey mentions a famous ancestor of Lord Artemis Sterling, someone everyone learns about in fantasy kindergarten like George Washington or Elizabeth the First, and Kravitz asks if that is her new coworker. Professional space ship scientist Taako Taaco tries to help Angus with his physics homework and realizes he has no idea what the gravitational constant of this planet even is

And then there’s the rare one-offs that are even more surprising than the gaps in their knowledge. Mookie can’t remember the ending of a fairytale and Taako supplies the answer without even thinking because there’s a very similar story on Tesseralia. Kravitz’s team wins the Bureau of Benevolence trivia night because the last question is about the composer who wrote the first piece Kravitz ever learned to play.

They go through their world both oblivious and dialed in, completely lost and altogether too aware. But they go through it together, and of that they are absolutely certain

Lucretia’s room was 95% books and then she moved a small, enthusiastic, water based baby creature in there and nearly had a heart attack every five minutes until the Voidfish was big enough to stop trying to play with her journals. She knows every water proofing and baby proofing spell out there, and at one point kept all her papers in cabinets with toddler locks on them.
