When encountering someone stuck in an Apology Loop, I do not uselessly ask, or worse, demand that they “stop apologizing.”

Rather, I have found it much more useful to affect a theatrical tone and formally “absolve” them. “Like a Renaissance pope, I absolve you, my child.” Usually the combination of having the absurdity of the situation highlit, combined with a touch of physiological release if I can get a laugh, is enough to soothe their nerves a bit and get them to break the loop. And who knows maybe they feel absolved I dunno I have an authoritative bearing

i like to think i enjoy the enemies-to-lovers trope, but i could not for the life of me figure out why i despise so many dynamics written as enemies-to-lovers until now. and its like. authors seem to like writing "enemies" as people who are just very annoyed with each other. or like. irritated by each other's presence. and that is so annoying to me. i do not give a shit about those tame excuses for "enemies". when i say enemies i want to see people who fantasize about killing each other to the point it's almost erotic. i don't want to see them arguing or thinking about how much they can't stand to be around the other person. i want them to actively seek out being around the other person so they can slit their throat up close. THAT'S what i mean by enemies-to-lovers. none of this tsundere "oh i don't ACTUALLY like you" shit that every YA novel seems to pull. christ.

I have come up with a better metaphor than “you can’t pour from an empty cup” for burnout. You can’t boil an empty kettle. Pouring from an empty cup just gets you nowhere. Trying to boil an empty kettle can ruin the kettle, the stove, and burn down your house if you keep trying it.

been reading a lot of haunted/sentient house books in the past couple years, and i've encountered 3 main types of narrative: 1) the house loves you and that's a good thing 2) the house loves you and that's a bad thing and 3) the house hates you and that's a bad thing. this leaves a gap for a potential fourth type of story-- the house hates you and that's a good thing. excited to see if hauntologists delve into this quadrant and what it looks like if they do

btw the majority of your life will be lived as a adult. yeah i don't make the rules. go have fun in your 40s or 70s or whatever. no one expects you to accomplish everything at 17 or 27. you've got time and in the meantime get some life experience, it will pay off
