"I might have to take you up on that discount at some point," She replied and reminded herself of the time a group of fuckboys drank too many jaggerbombs and ended up so drunk they destroyed the tables. Anyways.
Yarrow adored Corey's humor but she wasn't sure it was her girlfriend's cup of tea, so she shook her head and smiled a bit to herself, "no let's not get her involved I think she would get my head on a spike if she knew I was talking about this stuff at work," she took another sip of beer and looked up, "alas I'm afraid the person I was thinking about has already left." She placed back her chin in her hand and tiredly twisted her hair around her finger, "but what about you, how's it going with this incredibly hot person then? Tell me all about it!"
Yarrow considered the offer about accepting only the men they all liked and ok, fair, there were some exceptions to be made and sadly her misandry couldn't pay the bills. "Alright I see your point, we will only let one kind of people enter and that's the kind that don't make wanna punch a hole in walls," she took another long gulp of beer and shrugged in reply, shaking off the remnants of stress from her shift.
"Let's not go back to the vers debate we'll be there for hours, and I don't know if Andrea's home I'd have to text her, so it's just us," she listened with a quiet smile and looked around to see if the group of very identifiable queer cool people was still tere at the back of the room, but it seemed they had already left, so she looked back at Corey, "There was this cute long island ice tea drinker who was stealing some glances at you but I thought you had noticed, maybe you're losing your touch, what's wrong, are you ok?" She asked half-jokingly, feigning amused concern.

"Of course it's no bother!" Yarrow replies with an assured smile after a quick but long-awaited swallow from her beer. She rises from her stool and makes her way around the bar, firing a quick joke at her colleagues before taking a little bowl of peanuts, "Did you want something else?" She asks Adiya while placing the bowl in front of her, her confident smile still in place and still standing behind the bar. She loves this place, this counter, her usual customers whom she can greet with the familiarity of long lost friends, it's her job to make people feel at home no matter how tired she can feel and she enjoys being helpful. "I'll do everything you want, except dance on the counter I'm too old for this shit."
Location: the 8-Ball Brewery, around 9pm Who: open (@clearwaterstarters)
Even though she hadn't slept much last night, Yarrow had been able to fill her day and keep busy, and she had been ten minutes late to the beginning of her shift this afternoon, which thankfully hadn't been held against her as she had shown up panting and genuinely apologetic. Luckily for her there hadn't been too much customers today as she hadn't been feeling that focused and now her shift was finally over. Dead on her feet, Yarrow signed out and stepped around the counter, sitting down with a huff on a free barstool. She ordered herself a pils, not up for anything stronger, and raised her glass at the person sitting at her side.
"Cheers, hope the group of business students didn't bother you too much they love being loud pompous dicks who think they know more about beer and life than anyone else." She took a sip and hunched down a bit, cupping her chin in her hand. "Did you want more peanuts? I can hop around and fetch some I know their secret cache."

Yarrow followed his movements and also found herself a not-too-shabby stool to sit in front of Siwan. "I see, you can count on me to sign the petition of course," she replied while accepting the offered spoon and plunging it in her container, "But they should just hire you a private chef at this point, you deserve your three meals per day." She listened to his explanation and noticed his glance at her patched up hands, which she received with a quiet smile. There was no rice but Yarrow could build a good mount on her spoon of tofu, potato, cabbage and... zucchini?
She smiled at his offer, taking it as a serious one from Siwan. "Please I'm not a tattletale if she ever sends me back home I'll just thank her and apologise for the trouble, I'm sure she's got enough on her plate as it is her work must be hell." She then proceeded to put her enormous spoon of food into her mouth and let the stewed vegetables sit in, ignoring the way it burned the roof of her mouth. It was just spicy enough, the kind that both warms and wakes you up. She also found the need to give him an excited thumb up. "It's so good Siwan!" She finally managed to exclaim after having swallowed and nearly choked on her food. It was so perfectly seasoned, as well as cooked to the perfection, Yarrow idly wondered if there was anything this precious man couldn't do like a boss. "This is really really good, I'm glad we didn't just order in pizzas."
There was some wish to shrug away from his question, to beat around the bush, but as she prepared another spoon of food, Yarrow looked up into Siwan's eyes and could only see honesty and affection, how had she landed such a friendship? Who knew, but she thanked all her stars that led her on Siwan's path. "I'd never cheat on you Siwan, not after tasting your cooking, and if anyone ever does it give me their adress I'll take care of it." She said with conviction, meaning it, and she also looked at the dragonfly and deflated a bit on herself. "But yeh, I don't really know. It's shit isn't it?" It was a rhetorical question. "I think I'm in a slump, I have no idea what to do, what to say, what to show, so I spend a lot of time stuck here I guess? Maybe that's why we haven't seen each other much. " She exhaled out her tension and looked up, taking a good glance at her friend who, in her eyes, looked more tired than usual, but wasn't that expected of his new job? "Anyways, it'll solve itself on its own, as usual, so I'm not too worried about it." She brushed off her worries easily with a bright smile, not wanting to add on Siwan's already full plate. "What about you, has the work been what you expected of it?" She wanted to know everything there was to know.
Tumblr media
Siwan watched her, a small, amused smile tugging at the corners of his lips. “I dabble,” he joked with a shrug. “No, I just… you know, pick up a book now and then.” He reached into the bag for a pair of spoons he’d brought, neatly wrapped in a paper napkin. Taking the offered seat with quiet ease, he placed the container in front of him on the table. “No kitchenette yet, but I’m working on a petition,” he added as he lifted the lid. “There’s just insomnia and access to a decent rice cooker, I guess. Cooking at home is easier.” He laughed softly, as if at his own expense.
Unwrapping the spoons, he handed one to her. “Doen-jang ji-gae,” he repeated, slow and clear so she’d catch the sounds. “It’s soybean paste stew, basically. You eat it like soup. It’s usually served with rice, but I didn’t have any. Sorry.” He glanced up at her. “It’s also hotter than it looks.” He added, his eyes briefly flickering to her hands, like he was already predicting an inevitable burn.  “Tell the head nurse you’ve got a private physician. If she gives you trouble, send her to me. I’ll write a passive-aggressive note in her file.” He didn’t look like he was joking. But maybe he was. Probably.
Siwan stirred his food gently, letting the steam rise and curl between them. “I’m glad you like it.” He let the container sit for a while to cool before glancing back at her. “So… is the dragonfly what you’ve been up to? I’ve barely seen you since I got here.” He tilted his head, raising an eyebrow, almost accusatory. “Or are you seeing other doctors behind my back?”

"Well that's a good thing we're at a café then so we can get you that beloved caffeine," she replies with a good-natured laugh and checks out the menu behind the counter, even though she'll probably just order her usual black coffee. "Hmmm, do you think that'll change something? We can try it out, I'm curious to discover a more challenging spot." The line has stopped a bit so she takes the chance to kneel down and tighten her sneaker's lace. "Do you know what you're getting? Go wild this is my turn to pay."
Tumblr media
"Respect your god damned elders." Javier huffs with laugh, shaking his head back at Yarrow. "God forbid a man need to breathe, damn. I'm gonna need some caffeine in me if you're gonna keep busting my balls like that." He knows Yarrow is only messing with him, glad that the two could joke around with each other. "I'm picking the trail next time, we'll see who can't keep up."

The snort easily escaped Yarrow's nose at the joke which, even though it was lame as heck, sitll worked wonders. Like fart jokes, you couldn't go wrong with those. "I'm glad you were able to focus on your book then, they love getting attention from as much people as possible so I'm sure it pissed them right off to see you unbothered." Yarrow pointed at the book after another swallow, "What have you been reading by the way? Looks dope if it kept you hooked for so long." She was curious by nature and books were so varied, it was always enjoyable to hear people talking about their passion.
Tumblr media
"I think we both know that I don't do nuts." Ema teases, nose crinkling slightly at her own lame attempt at a joke. Her drink was mostly gone, the idea of a refill crossing her mind more than once but not yet decided upon. "Cheers." Lifting their glass, she tips the rest of the contents into her mouth, clearing her throat softly after swallowing. "Oh, those guys? They gave up when they realized I was more interested in my book than whatever they were trying to do to get my attention."

Yarrow immediately rolled her eyes at Daya's dramatic reply and shrugged easily at her question, "Girl I don't know we could just spy on people or pick up bird watching or even look at an eclipse with those, you see, so many great ideas that's it I'm taking them!" The excitement was obvious as she shoved the glasses in her shopping basket which was already filled with books, candle holders, vhs tapes and even a doily.
She couldn't hide either her pride when Daya grabbed the poster, which made something warm settle in her chest to know there would somehow be a little faraway piece of her in the shop. "I think you'll be ok with ducks yes, and if anything ever happens just call me I'll deal with the spirits they're afraid of me," she replied after laughing a bit. Strolling through the familiar alleys with her friend brought another kind of joy entirely and she was happy they had managed to meet up, what with their busy adult schedules and all. "But I still think you should have taken the pizza neon sign but we can't all have a perfect taste obviously. Also, I was wondering if you'd be free for some touch up on the crocodile you did on my ankle, it wouldn't be much but look, what do you think?" She asked and raised her jean pants to show the tattoo of a crocodile disco dancing.
Tumblr media
Daya eyed at the music box rather suspicious look. "Girl, if you don't put that thing down..." she half-joked, but she didn't exactly want to mess with things that were considered "haunted." She normally wouldn't go thrift shopping, even if she knew it was environmentally better or whatever, but she couldn't say no to her friend. Daya had to laugh at the glasses, shaking her head. "Oh god. Why, you go to operas pretty often?" she teased.
She looked at the poster, letting out a soft hum. "Actually, it would," she said, thinking about Toby's taste in decor. Would they like it? Shaking out of her thoughts, Daya decided to grab the poster. "Dammit, okay. You convinced me," she said with a dramatic sigh. Yarrow was a good friend, and it was a friendship she didn't expect after a one-time fling they had years ago, but she was glad that the other woman had somehow stayed by her side for this long. "This is the last thing that should be haunted, right?"

She asked half-jokingly, feigning amused concern.

"No men allowed is a little harsh, Yarrow. How about only men we like allowed?" Corey knew good men; their uncle Eddie, Mateo, Jin. Spence and Az, while not strictly men, fell on the spectrum of masculinity, and Corey would trust them with their life. The people in Corey's life were proof that it was possible to do better, which only made the guys that chose to still be annoying little scumbags all the more infuriating."
Corey had a very particular sense of humor; blunt and coarse. You didn't get to hang out with them for very long before you were exposed to it. Yarrow was used to it by now, and had chosen to claim Corey as her friend anyway, so she'd set herself up for the banter. "Oh, careful everyone. Yarrow is coming at me with the vers claims. Sweetheart, nobody is believing that, but it's cute that you try." Corey gave a small shrug as they sipped their drink. "Do I look like the kinda guy who plans? Just hanging out, having some drinks, seeing what happens. Not all of us have a longterm girlfriend to go home to." They glanced around the bar. "Why? You got someone picked out for me?"

Location: Bluebird café, early morning Who: closed (Javier @halfwcytohell)
The line wasn't long since the café had opened its doors a few minutes ago, it was quite early and it had become their habit to take a post-run coffees there since there weren't many places opened at the crack of dawn. Yarrow looked at Javi and jabbed him in the elbow to get his attention, "Do you want me to go slower next time, looks like you had a hard time keeping up with me on the last stretch grandpa." She spoke the last word with the biggest grin possible and took a step forward as the line shortened. "Or we can stick to some stretches and sun salutations." She loved taking the piss with Javi.

It took all of Yarrow's willpower not to reply with her mouth filled with cake, so she nodded and waited patiently to swallow everything before opening her lips, "It's very good but a bit generic but, again, as a shitty baker myself, I can't really complain because mine would taste absolute hell." She watched in silence as Tony made another mess of his frosting and rolled her eyes easily at his need and habit of theorizing everything which was, surely, a requirement to become professor. "As a fellow artist I can tell that nothing is ever worth the despair and disappointment that comes hand-in-hand with creation and I would urge anyone who wants to live off their art to look around and get a grip of themselves." She realized she might have sounded a bit dramatic so she sighed out a bit to calm herself and crossed her arms over her chest, signaling to the helping staff that she was utterly done with this ordeal. She still watched with fondness as his friend kept struggling and dared anyone mentally to try and mock his cake. "I would buy your cake thousands of dollars, I don't think I've ever seen anyone putting so much effort into this cake frosting stuff. You should call it Caky Balboa."
Tumblr media
Tony's eyebrows raised in a mix of amusement and surprise when he saw the partially eaten cake, wondering how on earth he could've missed Yarrow doing such a thing, but then figuring he must've been too in his own world fighting with the frosting to notice. "Is it good? That would make all of this worth it, at least." He couldn't imagine spending an hour decorating just for the grand prize to taste like cardboard. His good friend's words had him chuckling not long after though, even if he was shaking his head at her giving up. "As a fellow artist, you should know the answer to your first question. As for the second? I would hope you have a little more faith in me. This will be the most put-together cake you will ever see. It will sell for hundreds." Clearly being sarcastic, he began to pipe a border on the cake, only for it start to droop immediately again. Antonio sighed in disappointment, looking back at her. "Let's just call it an ironic cake."

Location: Yarrow's workshop Who: closed (@eduardoxrocha)
You could count on one hand the number of people Yarrow liked welcoming in her workshop, and Eddie had fastly earned the right to come at all times whenever he so desired, which is why it didn't surprise Yarrow to see him appear today. She took off her ear protections and raised her visor, turning off the welding rig before stretching up and smiling easily at the sight of Eddie. "Hey bud, have you been here long? Sorry that's the only time I don't get distracted or we can say bye-bye to some fingers." She wiped her hands on her pants and stood up to close the distance, suddenly checking her watch with a bit of panick in the movement. She gasped at the time it showed. "Shit!" They were supposed to meet an hour ago. Not at Yarrow's workshop. "I'm so sorry Eddie, oh fuck! Let me just clean up and we can head out."

Location: Afterlife Antiques Who: closed (Daya @gcldenline)
"Do you think I should get a haunted music box?" Yarrow turned around and showed Daya the wooden box, she had learned that musical items were usually haunted and one had to be careful when bringing them home. "Or maybe a pair of 1920s opera glasses?" She felt like a child in a toy store and wanted to see/buy everything possible, which is why she had hasked Daya to come with her. Someone had to be the voice of reason.
She stepped back at her friend's side and pointed at a poster of pink ducks, "Wouldn't that fit well at the parlor?". There was a time when they both used to only see each other in clubs and the tattoo shop, but now it seemed that age had steered their friendship in another direction and it wouldn't surprise Yarrow if they closed the afternoon with a nap at the park.

As always Collin's energy somehow lifted Yarrow's spirits and she instantly felt more relaxed at his side, letting the day's hurdles wash away easily under the brightness of his radiant smile. "I wish I could build immunity to 'ego and bullshit'", she said with airquotes "because believe me Clearwater does have its own pick of assholes." Sometimes she wished she could speak to shitty customers the way they spoke to her but that would mean being fired and, well... Bad plan.
Yarrow pondered the question, it was the first time someone asked her that and she hadn't ever thought about it. "I mean... I think there's places that I wouldn't trust with even touching the glasses or stools, but I swear on my life these peanuts are hazard-less," her tone was serious but she still chuckled at Collin's usual drama. "Are you hungry though? I was thinking of eating home but we can order ourselves some food, we make some clean and sanitary cheddar fries, I swear!"
Tumblr media
Collin wasn't he biggest beer enthusiast, but he did enjoy a good IPA once in a blue moon. But more than that, he knew his friend and neighbor worked at 8-Ball Brewery, and he often had some time to spare to go over and bother her. He smiled when Yarrow sat, before chuckling at her words with his own beer salute. "Nah. I've lived in L.A., so I'm immune to egos and bullshit by now. I'm just secretly hoping someone puts them in their place before they have to encounter the real world."
He then took a drink of beer before focusing on Yarrow with a slight shake of his head as he set it back down. "I'm alright. You're off the clock, so I'm not your problem anymore. You don't have to pretend to care about me anymore," he added with some dramatic flair before grinning. "You have to tell me though... Are bar snacks actually sanitary? I scarfed down like half the bowl, so I gotta know if I need to make a doctor's appointment tomorrow."

Yarrow listened patiently to Siwan's propositions, understanding that it was probably uncomfortable as fuck when an artist looks at you with pleading eyes that say "you either tell me what's wrong with this shit or I'll burn everything to the ground" and to be fair Yarrow was probably enjoying his distress too much but, in the end, she took in his remarks and found herself agreeing with him. "You might be right... I didn't peg you as a dragonfly expert but seems you're full of surprises today!"
She joined him at his side and her eyebrows rose to her hairline as soon as she saw the containers, understanding that these were homemade and not just bought at the korean restaurant Downtown. The wonderful smell hit her even though the lids were still closed and Yarrow chuckled at his remark. She did live off coffee and Red Bull but better not stir the pot and say that outloud. "It looks so good Siwan, thank you so much, I didn't know they allowed hospital directors to install kitchenettes in their office because I can't believe you took the time to make all this out of work." She was particularly touched he had remembered to keep it veggie, as it wouldn't be the first time someone thought it funny to ignore her regime choice. "I'll gladly tell anyone who asks to fuck off, and this is the best place to hide out anyways no one ever comes here."
She distributed napkins and found an empty chair she glided over at Siwan's side, not wanting him to eat standing up. "I have been good recently! No damage done yet!" She exclaimed and raised her hands defensively, chuckling a bit. "But I did need to restock because I can't just come to the ER for every little cut and scrap, I've seen the looks the head nurse sends me she thinks I'm just an attention seeker." She finally opened the lids and the smell that invaded the workshop was worth everything, "It looks so good Siwan, how do we eat this- wait how did you call it?" She asked, not wanting to butcher the words.
Tumblr media
Siwan tilted his head and took in the dragonfly art piece. He was absolutely not an artist by any means, but he didn’t really think it belonged in the bin either. “It’s not a bin piece,” he said plainly, without really knowing what more to offer for insights. “Aren’t the wings usually further apart on dragonflies?” He pointed up at the left wings with his hand that wasn’t holding his bag. “The front and back wings, I mean. Might let more lights in if they’re… I don’t know, spread more.” he offered, unsure if that was helpful. He didn’t comment on the sculpture she had warned him about. He knew better.
Siwan set the bag down on the nearest cleared surface, and pulled out two neatly wrapped containers, one for her with her name scribbled on it, and one for himself. “Doenjang jjigae. Vegetarian.” He handed the container over to her, like it wasn’t a big deal. “With actual vegetables, before you ask. I figured you’ve been surviving off adrenaline and spite again.” He teased lightly, before also fishing a compact first aid kit out of his pocket and placed it on the table. He had specifically kept one on hand after getting to know Yarrow. “It’s my lunch break. Technically. I’ll deny that I left the building if anyone asks.” He paused and looked up at her, subtly scanning for whatever injury had prompted the bandaid request this time. “So where’s the damage? What did you do this time?”

"Pff tell me about it, if I have to listen to one more guy going on about his fucking Hazy IPA brewed in the back of his garage I might break everything." Yarrow liked the easiness that came with complaining with other bartenders, she had met with Indy a few times when their shift end at the same time and there's no other place to relax than another bar opened until the crack of dawn. "Arf don't worry that's ok, I wouldn't offer if it was a bother." She took a sip of her beer and pointed at Indy with her head, "What about you, did you have a shift today or is it your day off?"
Tumblr media
"Ew, finance bros." Indy replies, nose wrinkling at the thought. "I mean, I trust the person behind the bar way more than the guy holding a beer and wearing a tie, but that's just me." As a bartender themself, Indy understood what Yarrow meant. The worst kind of patrons were the ones that thought they knew everything. Meanwhile, it was the actual bartenders that knew what they were talking about. "I'm good on the peanuts. You're off the clock, relax. No more work mode."

Location: Capstone Auto 8am Who: closed (Dante @lvnderhxze)
Being the older sister of four siblings meant that Yarrow loved taking care of others, had this gift when it came to being there and listening intently. When she met Andrea five years ago, she also met Dante, Andrea's brother, and it was like being with her siblings, she had this urge to pick at him and bother him she way she would have done it with her own younger brother. It hadn't taken that long for Yarrow to jump on the occasion and ask him if she could go through his dump at the garage and see if he had spare car parts, because she was always in dire need of spare metal. Today was no exception, Yarrow had woken up early and, after her morning jog, she had made her easy way to the shop and noticed a yellow bumper in the bin which, frankly, would kill on one of her sculptures.
So she instantly crouched down and tried to extricate the bumper from the pile of sparts when, suddenly, she heard a sound behind her. She stopped in her tracks. Someone was clearly behind her. "Uh... Dante?" She asked, unsure, and turned around to make sure it wasn't some serial killer about to split her head in two.
