Marx My Words – Post-Mortem
Overview
Marx My Words is a roguelike adventure that follows the protagonist as they wield their mysterious "Mr. O" powers in search of their stolen clothes, taken by the elusive Ghostepher Bumsdead. The game blends fast-paced combat with a structured progression system, offering players a mix of challenge and quirky storytelling.
What Went Well
Core Gameplay Foundation: By the end of development, two fully functional enemy types had been implemented, providing a solid base for combat mechanics.
Level Progression System: Players could successfully reach the upgrade screen, reinforcing the roguelike loop of progression.
Engaging Concept: The game’s unique premise and humorous narrative gave it an intriguing identity that could be further refined.
Challenges Encountered
Upgrade Implementation: While the level-up screen functioned properly, the actual upgrades were not yet implemented due to time constraints.
Time Management: The scope of features planned exceeded the available development time, leading to some unfinished mechanics.
Potential Improvements
Expand Enemy Variety: Introducing additional enemy types could increase gameplay depth and enhance the difficulty curve.
Finalize Upgrade Functionality: Ensuring upgrades have a noticeable impact would make progression feel more rewarding.
Polish UI and Art: Enhancing the update screen with visual elements and feedback cues could improve the overall presentation.

Marx My Words Playtest
Tester: Kasey Rees
Date 07/06/2025
What went well: Playing the game was a great experience, with an entertaining storyline and well-integrated mechanics. If expanded further, it’s a game I’d happily return to.
What went wrong: Not much was problematic—mainly, the level-up system didn’t seem to make a difference at this stage.
Suggestions: Include more enemy types and ensure that upgrades provide meaningful effects. Adding visual elements to the update screen could also enhance the experience.

What went well: The game was enjoyable to play, featuring an engaging story and well-executed mechanics. If further developed, it would be a game I'd definitely consider spending more time on.
What went wrong: There weren’t many issues, though the level-up system didn’t appear to have a noticeable effect yet.
Suggestions: Introduce additional enemies and ensure upgrades have a tangible impact. You might also consider adding some artwork to the update screen.

Marx My Words Playtest
Tester: Ryan Sills
Date:07/06/2025
What went well:
The game was really fun to play, with a fun story and pretty well implemented mechanics. If the game was further built up it is definitely a game, I would consider playing more.
What went wrong:
Not too much was bad, only really the level up system not seeming to actually do anything yet.
Suggestions:
Add some more enemies and make the upgrades do something, perhaps add some art to the update screen

Playtest for The Cat and His Water Mage
Tester Name: Kasey Rees
Date 07/06/2025
What went Well?
The character and art look brilliant, lots of the assets match each other which brings it together well. There is lots of potential once the level is done. What was not good? Level was not finished and some of the hitboxes were a bit strange. The cat sometimes gets randomly left behind and then teleports to you again.
Suggestions:
Finish the game
Add more enemys
Clean up bugs

Marx My Words Update
Hey everybody, it's been one day of working on MMW and so far, the progress is good I have created:
An animated Character
Created a player projectile
Player can Shoot Projectile which goes to where mouse clicked
Projectile damages enemy
Player Movement
Player flipping when mouse switches side
An animated Enemy
Given the enemy health
Given the enemy a player tracker function, so they follow the player
An Enemy Kill Tracker
A global variable which counts enemy kills
A function which once a certain kill limit is hit, takes the player to the upgrade screen
Given the upgrades a button which resumes the game
I think that is just about it, my goal for the next update is to
Have the upgrades actually work
Give the player health
Give enemies damage
Possibly randomise upgrades
Possibly increase amount of kills it takes to get the next upgrade
Possibly increase spawn rate as time goes on
Thats it thanks, here is a little snippit of what i have so far

CSC Level 1 video
Perhaps not quite finished yet, but here is my level one (it's hard) as you can see I did not quite make it on this attempt and I still do not finish it more often than not, so I think it is in a good place

ColourShiftClash Update
Here is some of the music I have created for the level, I am going to create boss music as well very shortly. It has been hard because before this I had not created music on any software, so I am learning lots of new things!

Working on level 1 design right now. The team and I have gotten all the mechanics down, and added fully custom assets and are on to level creation, I have been in charge of level 1. My next update will likely be about my music progress

Group project: Colour Shift Clash
Hey, I'm back and with a group. We will be working on a cool little game called Colour Shift clash, where you have to match your colour to enemies, platforms, traps, and puzzles in order to complete them. I will mainly be in charge for music for this one, which will be interesting as I am not to well versed in musical software. I'll keep you posted on my project

Playtesting for The Cat and His Water Mage
Tester Name: Ruby Rain Hideo-Smith Date: 6th of April 2025
What Worked:
Really impressed by the pixel art, the world looks alive, and the characters are full of charm.
The water-based theme is very fun
The mage-cat interactions are great
What Didn’t Work:
After the second area, there was no clear goal — I wasn’t sure if I missed something or reached the end.
Sometimes a bit strange hitbox on a few things
Suggestions:
Add a subtle objective marker or end-of-demo screen to help players know when it’s over.
The dash mechanic is solid — maybe add a water trail or particle effect for more feedback.

Playtesting for The Cat and His Water Mage
Tester Name: Ryan Sills Date: 3rd of April 2025
What Worked:
Art style is amazing — seriously, the pixel art is top-tier. The water animations and spell effects are super satisfying to look at.
Controls feel responsive. Moving the mage and casting spells is smooth.
Companion cat is adorable, and I like how it follows the player
What Didn’t Work:
Seem's empty or unfinished — I reached a dead-end with no purpose yet.
The enemy orc looks like it’s a placeholder.
Suggestions:
Add simple tutorials or tooltips for what each spell does.
Would love some light environmental puzzles using water spells!

"Asteroids" style game pitch
Title: Marx My Words
You are Mark Marx, a former infantryman turned elite bodybuilder. After years of relentless training, you’ve finally achieved the impossible—winning Mr. Olympia for the first time, dethroning the legendary Ghostepher Bumsdead, who had dominated the competition for six straight years.
But victory comes at a cost.
Unbeknownst to the world, Ghostepher Bumsdead is no mere man—he is a demon lord in disguise. Enraged by his loss, he casts a dark spell, stealing every piece of clothing you own... except for the championship underpants you’re wearing.
Barely covered but heavily armed, you grab your military-grade rifle and battle-worn helmet. If Bumsdead wants to strip you of your dignity, you’ll strip him of his throne.
Descend into the underworld. Blast through demonic hordes. Take back what’s yours.
Welcome to the most shredded war in history
Unique Selling Points:
"Barely Dressed, Fully Armed" Challenge – Your only armor is your Mr. Olympia championship underpants, forcing you to rely on quick reflexes, strategic movement, and the Mr. Olympia medal that gives you power
"Demon Gains" Progression System – Slay demons to absorb their power and grow even stronger, unlocking new physiques (Titan Mode, Shadow Bulk, etc.), insane weaponry, and devastating ultimate attacks as you carve your way through the underworld.
Top-down shooter similar to Vampire survivors
Would you play it? 😈💪🔥
