AHEM. What’s a girl got to do to get a Josh Duhamel connection around this place? Honestly.

Given who Scarlett's mama is and how her parents first met, it'll never not be funny to me each time Minka mentions Miss Texas in Ransom Canyon. Just sayin'.
#and that one time she also mentioned dallas in the same breath.#and then was watching barrel racing at the rodeo.#which is scarlett's event of choice.#at the southfork rodeos.#♡ ˙ ˖ ✧ — we'll probably have take three ¦ out of character.

Just like it was yesterday, Scarlett could still remember the last time she’d seen Cody. She’d done what she could and did her best to say all the right things, but at the end of the day, business wasn’t just business. There was something much deeper and more personal right there below the surface, and what her mama had said once rang true louder than ever before. Sometimes love just isn’t enough.
When J.R. Ewing wanted something, nine and a half times out of ten, he got it. Normally, Scarlett was proud to be the daughter of such a powerful man. His methods might not have always been ethical, but as a spoiled little rich girl, if it benefited her in one way or another, she honestly couldn’t have cared less.
Everything changed once her daddy decided to start interfering in her life, though.
If she chose a boy he didn’t approve of, he’d shut the whole thing down by whatever means necessary, and given Cody’s last name didn’t hold enough weight and couldn’t bring any business deals to the table to help make their relationship beneficial for both sides, J.R. had decided that his little girl both could and would do better.
Much better.
Unfortunately, it’d ultimately left Cody without a job and Scarlett making the whole thing even worse by vowing that as a revenge tactic of sorts, she’d leave Ewing Oil in the dust for a rival company. Yes, working for Marilee Stone or Cliff Barnes would surely stick it to the old man and hit ‘em where it hurt.
Much like always, though, people make plans and God laughs. Life pitches you a string of curveballs, yet before you know it, you’re exactly where you were always meant to be, regardless. Even still, she couldn’t help but wonder what this particular sign was ultimately supposed to mean. Cody hadn’t been on her mind in well over a decade, yet now here they were face to face. He hadn’t changed a damn bit, and that was probably what irritated her the most. The attraction was still as palpable as ever, and only time would tell if the chemistry still lingered.
“Would you believe I got curious enough to come see for myself how the other half lives?” Yeah, no. She didn’t even believe the excuse herself as the first syllable left those pouty, painted lips. If it wasn’t top shelf, she didn’t bother with the stuff. Then again, there was an exception to every rule, wasn’t there?
“Seriously, though.” Dark brown eyes took a quick glance around, quickly concluding that he had no date to speak of. Well, not that Scarlett would have really cared, even if he did. She had a reputation for breaking hearts and taking names, and she didn’t see anything wrong with that. “How long has it been anyway? I wanna hear all about the trouble you’ve been gettin’ yourself into. Start talkin’.”
a name can tell y’lots. hole in the wall being z’actly the kinda bar it is, ran by a man named WINN who claims to never lose. (cody still swears ol’boy greased up the bartop nice’n’good to make his damn elbow slip during an infamous arm-wrestling match.) but anyone with some sense or ‘least some working eyes could spot several code violations itching to refute winn’s ego. cheap drinks keep ‘em lips shut. just another part of the experience. s’all there in the name.
and some sure got weight to ‘em, huh? ‘nuff of a heavy presence that shifts the whole goddamn room. those high heels get to clicking and clacking on ‘em floors, giving him da frissons, and knocks the air right outta those lungs. DAMN WELL HER FATHER’S DAUGHTER. just like when ‘em suits would land on the deck, clean hard hats tilted on their big ass heads. shaking some hands. barely registering all ‘em faces they’d let go the next day. GOD, HE HATES TEXAS.
and ain’t nuttin more texan than a fuckin’ ewing. cody can remember that old cheerleader uniform well. can still see ‘em lil chicken legs if he squints. so he does. lets the pretend twist up his features, as if he didn’t feel the minute she clicked ‘em heels on in. “ ALL THE JOINTS.. ” he huffs, and maybe puffs out that chest a lil. she’s not paying for scars her father’s left. no, she sure can scratch out her own. s’all in the name. “ MISS SCARLETT EWING S’IN MINE. ”
somethin’ knowing twitches on ‘em lips. “ I’LL BE DAMNED. DIDN’T KNOW Y’LIKE SLUMMING IT ‘ROUND THESE PARTS, LADY. ”

FAVORITES.
COLOR: Some days it’s purple, and some days it’s gold. Purple is the color of royalty, and gold is the color of winners who always come in first place. Combine the two together and you have pretty much have Scarlett Ewing in a colorful nutshell. As for shades, deep purple and bonus points if the gold is sparkly.
SEASON: Autumn, definitely. The air is cool and crisp, and the leaves are just beginning to change colors. Sweaters and jeans become the outfit of choice, and you can easily keep warm with a mug of apple cider or hot chocolate with extra marshmallows. It’s football season, and there’s all types of other fun outdoor activities to enjoy as well. You can also curl up and just relax when the cold rain comes in. Don’t forget the start of the holiday season with Halloween and Thanksgiving.
HOLIDAY: Christmas, of course. Everyone just seems a little bit brighter and more cheerful during that particular time of year. There’s a plethora of pretty lights and decorations to see, and it’s always a fun evening blasting holiday music and putting up the Christmas tree. Also, there’s almost always a party to attend, and while it’s always nice to receive presents, it’s even more fun to go shopping and gift some to others. Finally, baking Christmas cookies, even if you’re the most untalented baker on the planet.
LOCATION: Southfork, without a doubt. The ranch has been in her family for generations, and it’s where she feels the most at home, even though she doesn’t officially live there anymore. It’s where she grew up. It’s a part of who she is. She’ll do whatever necessary to protect it, no matter the cost.
ACTIVITY: Horseback riding, for sure. Sapphire is her main horse that she’s ridden for both leisure, as well as in a handful of barrel racing competitions. Cashmere, or Cash for short, is ridden mostly for the former, and Vanity basically just likes to stand around and live up to her name. Riding around Southfork always help Scarlett to clear her head whenever something’s bothering her. It’s relaxing and she can just be herself for a change, because none of her horses care about wealth or power.
FILM / SHOW: When it comes to television and movies, Scarlett doesn’t really have too much time to sit down and actually watch anything anymore. Well, unless it has to do with sports anyway. Football is the one she cares about most – college in particular. As an avid Longhorns fan, don’t you dare use the horns down sign in front of her. Feel free to go on about how the Sooners and the Aggies both suck, though. Her daddy taught her to never bet against the Dallas Cowboys, and although they’ve been having a rough go at it for the past few years now, she’s in it for the long haul. Fall, Eagles, fall.
FOOD: Barbecue is the most delicious food in the entire world, as far as Scarlett is concerned. It’s probably a good thing her family hosts one at Southfork every year, because in true southern fashion, she loves the brisket, all the sides that go along with it, etc. Most people might think she eats like a bird, but ha – certainly not on those days.
BEVERAGE: Sweet iced tea, always. It’s her drink of choice anywhere from restaurants to when she’s at home either laying out by the pool or just doing whatever. It might just be one more southern cliche, but whatever. Vodka has its moments, but given the way her mama abused that particular liquor, she’s got to be a little careful, given her pre genetic disposition to alcoholism.
ANIMAL: Horses, obviously. Ever since she was about four years old, Scarlett’s never been without a horse of her own. They might not always be the most intelligent animal in the world, but she loves them unconditionally, especially given how they accept her for who she is, no questions asked. It’s also pretty peaceful to just hang out in the stables and groom them after a relaxing ride, or just because. Oh, and they’re also a great form of therapy, so she appreciates that as well.
FLOWER: The yellow rose of Texas, duh. Sure, all the other colors of roses are beautiful as well, but yellow will forever be her favorite. Don’t ask why. It just is. Not everything needs to have an exact reason behind it.
SONG: Ha, that’s almost like asking a mother who her favorite child is. It changes like the weather, but you can normally find Scarlett jamming out to a variety of country music. She prefers the classics like Dolly and Loretta, but most of the modern-day stuff isn’t so bad, either. Reba and Lainey are pretty great, if you ask her. Actually, don’t ask, because she can’t pick a favorite artist, either. She’s also been known to enjoy some of the Top 40 hits, but she’s forever a country girl at heart.
