it's so easy to mistake the way yeonjin treats yesol as a form of love, like she's cruel and nasty but not to her daughter and while it may be true, i wouldn't categorize it as the typical love a mother has for her daughter. yeonjin views her daughter as a prized possession, like a trophy. of course she wouldn't want her possession to get hurt or tarnished or tainted or taken away from her, she uses yesol as a tool for fuel her own delusional narratives about herself. she believes she loves yesol and perhaps she does in her own way, but she's inevitably doing exactly what her own mother did to her. when it came down to it, yeonjin would rather protect herself than sacrifice her reputation for her daughter. all she had to do was apologize and she couldn't do it, this marking the final block needed for her undoing. it's easy for yeonjin to love yesol as a child, but i can't imagine it would carry out as yesol grows older with her own opinions.

ABOUT PARK YEONJIN :

park yeonjin in present era works as a weatherwoman. well known, established, renowned. wealthy, classy, and elegant. has a young daughter whom she dotes on and a husband she couldn't be happier to have. her life is sparkling and clean and everything a person could want. but she hides an ugly past and wears a mask that has been super - glued on for the sake of blending into society. park yeonjin as a teenager was the devil incarnate, taking advantage of her mother's wealth, power, and influence to dish out violence to whomever she wanted to. yeonjin cared about nobody and dealt with her boredom in cruel, unorthodox manners. with a small group of friends who followed her every step, she terrorized her targets at school to do her bidding ( and to simply provide herself with entertainment ). if anyone knew, they wouldn't say it. if anyone dared to tell on her, they would regret it. park yeonjin always got her way.

although her cohorts had been with her for most activities, she hides the truth of one of their victims — she was the cause of yoon sohee's death, of which had been ruled a suicide.

as an adult, yeonjin had grown more skillful at hiding her true self and presents herself as the charming, kind wife and philanthropist. even with her position at the weather channel, she exploits younger assistants to write her scripts for her and uses fear to maintain control over younger, ambitious co - workers seeking to replace her.

her body count is one and a half, but that's only if we're counting literal deaths. she's snuffed out far more spirits than that.

HOW TO WRITE WITH YEONJIN:

your muse would never know that she was a bully in high school. your muse would never know that she killed someone in high school or that she nearly killed someone as an adult. yeonjin is an expert at acting and playing a role. she's charming, funny, gentle, down - to - earth. she would be a good friend at first. she's incredibly fake though so it would make sense for your muse to be put off by it or sense that something is off. she could've been an enemy during high school or college or even during her early career days but in a ' shielded ' manner so it's not so scandalous as being labelled a bully. yeonjin also has connections in high places, mostly due to her mom, so that's an option. anything could work tbh !

not that there's any conscious thought to writing in third person but specifically with yeonjin, her story has always been panned out for her. she's never really make her own story and write her path, she picks a genre and everything is laid out. she views herself as a character in a fairytale ( though it's very obviously a fable ), and thus she's portrayed from the perspective of an omniscient. she doesn't consciously plan, though she does have her internal dialogue. its just .......... she expects it all to fall in place in her favor.

it coats her lungs like tar — sticky with the chokehold of a death sentence. was it fear, disgust, shame ? paranoia ? or all of the above ? the ghost of her past is staring her down : the audacity, who does she think she is ? does she think herself better than the embarrassing, laughable creature she was all those years ago ? a leopard never changes its spots, doesn't she know ? she could parade around in new clothes and shoes and a shiny position, but she will remain the dirt under yeon - jin's shoe — something for her to scrape and scrub and kick until removed. it's easy enough to see her purpose here : revenge, but the not knowing of its final curtain call, the anticipation rising with every move she makes — oh, she despises it, despises that her attempts to get rid of her had fallen short. what was power if she could not wield it properly ?

“ threatening ? ” she laughs, eyes darting to their surroundings with practiced ease, like the teacher had cracked a joke worthy of her amusement. “ you crazy bitch. ” this is hissed and laced effortlessly, delivered so efficiently so only moon dong - eun could catch. attention shifts back with a snap, slender digits tracing the gold plating of her handbag. “ it's clear you've lost your mind so all reasoning is pointless. you are a rabid animal waiting to be put down and i'll do just that. i've done it before ... ” ends of brims twitch upwards, yet the gesture doesn't reach her eyes. it never does. “ i'll make sure i get the job done this time. you think you're safe here ? you don't belong, and they'll find out soon enough. especially with you putting an innocent child in danger with your obsession. ” she pauses, gaze darkening for just a split moment, careful not to draw attention from the other teachers and parents. “ my child. ”

there was a time where things were much simpler than they are now, how easy it was for you to not hesitate on putting the fear in another human beings eyes, your eyes have always been so dark, yeon-jin. haven't you noticed? the mere thought of destruction, the trembling sounds of air being sucked into lungs of a girl you hated, the sound of skin hissing underneath a curler; your eyes bloom into something so dark, so sinister. tell me, what did god see in you by gracing you with money, parents and whatnot? what makes you think that i will ever move when you had forced me to stay put? a dog learns to obey. until they've had enough. surely... you remember, don't you?

" are you threatening me? " that is a question in which one should know by now. and you, yeon-jin, knew the answer. it's why i offer you nothing more but a small smile. eyes darting from left to right. the sudden tilt and a dry chuckle that strains to be heard. then a sudden inhale of earth's rotten air, you had this way of just making precious things rot with your anger. " but it's worthless to do that, don't you think? such hollow threats don't mean a thing to me anymore, not when all eyes are on you, yeon-jin. " a dog learns to stay put. and i stay. does my presence irk you that much? what would have changed if you killed me back then? i'll tell you. nothing. god has a sick way of dealing with filth like you.
