please learn to code switch. i am begging you. it will water your crops and make the snakes stop physically manifesting in your house. say it louder for the people in the back!
Code-switching is an invaluable skill that will help you connect with people, communicate the things that you intend, and serve you well in both your personal and professional capacities.
> be me
> get a cushy office job
> go to a meeting
> use f-bombs for everything
> call marketing person a "salesfag"
> get fired
> come home, go to group chat
> start a sentence with "notwithstanding"
> press f for me boys its over
> wishing i'd heard of code-switching before
Whereas human communications occur in diverse social contexts, changing the scope of permissible or positively-regarded language and idiom, one may find it advantageous to be able to switch communications styles (hereinafter referred to as "codes"), selecting them appropriately for the particular circumstances in which you find yourself at a given point in time.
This one simple writing trick BLEW THEM AWAY! You won't believe how easy it is, or what they call it!
So I ended up with free time at the end of my first class today, so I was like "do yall wanna see a vintage meme?" and turned on "what does the fox say". Expected like. A laugh from the kids, or even just a "wtf is this mx?" which is. A reasonable reaction to What Does The Fox Say.
But instead of a reasonable reaction. all of my students watched the first 60 seconds with jaws agape. And then this one kids turns to me like the fucking eye of Sauron and literally goes:
new thing i learned just now: in like 400 AD there was a monk named simeon stylites who used to live in a one room cell with a window but too many people kept bugging him for religious advice, so he climbed to the top of a pillar and shackled himself to it until he died 37 years later.
this became a cool new trend to the point where there were enough pillar monks of varying viewpoints that they would scream at each other all day
You must journey through the western gates into the great unknown, past the black ridge, through the mires betwixt towering mountains, past the empty fields of gold that stretch on for miles, unto horizons anew.
another fun thing about the reddit migration is that there's already such an interconnected web of refugees all following each other. I keep seeing the same names pop up again and again in reblogs and mentions to the extent that there are several people on here I just assumed I was following up until I got the "you might like this blog..." notification. and then I follow them, and new names pop up, and my followed list just gets bigger and bigger.
so keep up the good work, and keep promoting each other so I can find more people to follow.
work is disabling; disability is class-enforcing. adjust ur ideological paradigms accordingly
