"Curses" don't exist in the life series.

Pearl wasn't a curse in Double Life, she was angry and isolated and she became what she was said to be, because that's what it took to survive, a self fulfilling prophecy, not a fated curse.

Jimmy has never been cursed, Jimmy is bold and ambitious and passionate and every decision he's ever made has been his own, the label of "curse" is itself what robs him of agency by ascribing his choices to some immutable outside force.

Grian isn't cursed either, nor is he a curse (i've seen widows curse interpreted both ways), they're playing a death game, people die. The Widows Curse is a cruel manifestation of Grian's misplaced guilt.

There is no determinism in the Life Series, every 'curse' is a result of people's choices, or just pure chance, reinterpreted into an affliction upon (or by) the players.

But that's a good thing. Because Pearl isn't damned to be a monster cut off from the rest of the world, and Jimmy has always had a choice (and he's never once wasted one), and Grian doesn't have to fear killing everything he touches. Yes, this world, this game, is a cage in many ways, but the players are their own, and none of them are tainted or doomed by something as inconsequential as "fate".
