"Yes Sir." He had no doubt at all that Jughead was straight forward enough that he would be clear with his wants and thoughts. He had no idea what his expression showed. He felt like he was smiling but he might also just look surprised. The man's words could have come straight from Dahlia's lips. From the time he met her when they were five years old she had very clear cut ideas about fairness and she fought against the notion that Dominants were owed respect and deference without doing anything to earn it. He nodded slowly. "I'm going to have to send you some links to my late Domme's articles. She believed the same as you Sir." He sighed a little sadly. "And you're right. Unfortunately, that viewpoint doesn't always go over so well." Dexter was contemplative, but not sad thinking about Dahlia. He carefully sipped at his coffee, thinking how pleased she would be to know that there were other like-minded Dominants out there. "I would be honored Sir. Truly." He hoped that Jughead knew that when Dexter used the title it was not out of obligation toward the mark, but true respect.
Jughead noticed the other man's reaction to his words, and wasn't all that surprised by the question that followed. "You're welcome to ask me anything. Rest assured, I'll let you know if I won't answer something." The question was a relevant one given their conversation. "I'm not the type of person that fits into the mold of what society views as... normal. The fact I'm also not afraid to openly state i think it's bullshit for someone with the Dominant mark to automatically believe they deserve respect doesn't always go over well with some people either." He offered a small smile as Dexter took in the praise, but Jughead only spoke the truth and what he could see from their brief interaction. "Thank you, Dexter. Perhaps I'll let you be one of the first people to see a glimpse of it as it continues to come together."

Dexter frowned. "What makes you think that Sir? If you don't mind me asking. You seem extremely likable to me. Political or social disagreements are... or at least should be separate from liking someone." He nodded with a pleased smile. That was the greatest praise he could imagine receiving. "Thank you," he replied quietly. "That makes a lot of sense. When something is personal in some way it comes from a much deeper place. It's very exciting and I'm sure it's going to be great."
Tumblr media
Jughead nodded his head, giving the other man his full attention as they spoke. Jughead tended to only pull rank with his mark when the situation called for it or the feel of the conversation appeared to go in that direction. His conversation with Dexter was clearly just two people talking and he had no problems in treating the other man with respect and equal footing. The fact he was clearly a respectful guy just made it all that more easier and kept Jughead from going on the defense. "I'm fully aware that I'm not someone that everyone's going to like, Dexter and I'm okay with that." He really was too, because he knew the people that truly cared about him saw past his defensiveness. "I don't know you that well, but from this brief interaction so far... I'd say that you're standing true to yourself. The person that you want to be." He could tell that Dexter was listening with equal interest as they spoke and it reminded Jughead that he did actually enjoy human interaction on occasion. "The personal connection definitely helped the writing to flow." Jughead told him. "I never thought I'd use real life for inspiration but... it's not the first time life has shown me that the unexpected can happen."

"She was and she certainly did. From the day I met her when we were five years old." He realized that this was the first time he'd been able to talk about Dahlia to someone outside of his family. And even within his family he'd only talked this freely to Madeline. The pain was there, but it wasn't all consuming because there was happiness too. "That's admirable Sir. Really. And honestly it's the only real moral stance isn't it? I will admit that I often bow to politeness. Probably somewhat owing to being a submissive. But still, I hope I stand true to myself." He nodded listening closely, truly interested. "That sounds really interesting. Is finding the personal connection helping the writing flow do you think?"
Tumblr media
"Thank you, Dexter." Jughead said, unable to help but offer a small smile in return. It was clear Dexter was proud of his first Domme's writing and it was endearing to see. "She sounds like a fantastic woman who knew how to stand her ground." It made him think about JB a little bit, because his sister was also a strong Dominant that knew when to stand her ground and wasn't the type to back down easily. "Oh, you'll never please everyone. So I don't even try." Jughead told him. "People will either like me or hate me, but it'll be based on who I am and not who they try and make me out to be." He wouldn't convert for anyone, and he knew some people weren't his biggest fan because of it, but at least they'd know what they were getting into with him. He stirred his strong around his milkshake for a moment before taking a sip from it. "It was mystery, but what I'm working on is probably more... real life meets fiction." He told him. "Not quite autobiography, but inspired by real life events."

"I will Sir," he assured with a bright proud smile. "It's taken a while for me to healthy enough to read her work. She wrote from her heart. Facts and truth obviously mattered the most, but she saw that her beliefs aligned perfectly with the truth and she didn't allow society try to sway her." He knew that Miss Madeline had similar values and strength of character. He was so very lucky to have found two strong women. "I think that there are certain views that will always piss people off and that's how you know you're in the right. You can't please everyone and stay true to your beliefs." He sipped his hot tea and took a big bite. "That's great. You have to clear the decks sometimes. May I ask what genre you write?" Being a writer in his own right, though not to the level of Dahlia, or Sir Jughead, or Matt, but he loved the process and learning how great writers approached their art.
Tumblr media
Jughead took a moment to save what he'd been working on and allowed his laptop to close, aware that a break from staring so intently at the screen would do him some good as he moved it to the side so he could actually move his food closer and eat it before it went completely cold. "You'll have to let me know if they do, and I'll look into her stuff." Jughead said, always open to trying new reading material. He gave a brief chuckle at Dexter's mention of her views not always being popular. "I definitely want to know if they publish her work, because my views are exactly the reason I could never do journalism." Jughead told the older man. "I know for a fact some of my views would piss a lot of people off." He reached down to grab a fry from his plate and took a bite of it as he nodded his head. "I was, much more than I have been in... months." Jughead said. "I scrapped what I started ages ago and went with a fresh idea."

Dexter smiled easily. "That sounds good Sir." He sat down and gestured to the server when he saw her looking for him with a cup of coffee and slice of pie. "Mhm, though I think they're going to be publishing some of her work as book. Don't know if that will ever get off the ground though. Her views weren't always popular." He smiled and shrugged. The smile turned brighter when he saw the younger man check the time on his laptop. "Ahhh, you really were in the zone. A good idea came knocking hm?" He carefully sipped his hot coffee happy to talk about writing.
Tumblr media
Even if that were the case, Jughead was fully aware that he'd chosen a public place. Which, in turn, meant he opened himself up to people staring at him, so Dexter hadn't done anything wrong in that sense. "How about we agree that we're even then." Jughead said, Dexter staring and Jughead's shortness could cancel each other out and they'd move on with their day. He listened as the older man spoke, mentioning his first Domme and how she'd have been more short if he'd interrupted. Clearly, some writers were alike in that sense. "Journalist, huh. I considered that path at one point." He also decided quite quickly that it wasn't for him considering his view on the world. "You're welcome, Dexter." Jughead said, grabbing one of the fries that he'd temporarily forgotten about and took a bite. "You're not interrupting me. I could do with a small break considering I've been sitting here typing for..." He lifted his screen enough to look at the time on the corner. "Almost an hour."

Dexter shook his head. He didn't want the man to feel in the slightest bit bad. "Well I did stop and stare. I think that was rude in itself. My first Domme was just like that when she was in the zone while writing. She would have been even more... short if I'd interrupted her. Neither of you were assholes. But yes, yes she was a writer. Journalist." He chewed his lip, not sure if he should be getting in Jughead's this way. But he felt drawn to the conversation. He'd only be a short while anyway. "Thank you Sir. As long as I'm not interrupting your flow."
Tumblr media
It was only when the other person spoke that Jughead was truly pulled out of his focus enough that he actually turned toward the person that had approached his table. It was Dexter, the submissive of another student at Stonewall. "Dexter." Jughead said, reaching one hand up to lower his laptop screen partway. "No, I'm sorry. I was in the zone and I can be a little... short when I'm hyper focused on something." He told the other, his mind registering the other's words about reminding the other of someone. "Do I?" He asked, mildly intrigued as to who he could remind the other person of. "Were they a writer too or a bit of an asshole?" He asked, his tone light and clearly teasing as he said it because Jughead was willing to admit that he'd been a bit rude when his initial remark. "You're also welcome to sit if you'd like." He said, sliding his plate and cup closer to him so Dexter could sit if he chose to.

Checking his watch, Dexter realized that he had a stupid amount of time until school was out. Instead of just waiting with the other parents he decided to treat himself to a coffee and a slice of pie at Pop's. He put his order in at the counter with the son of a man he'd gone to school with. Maybe that was one of the reasons it happened. Perhaps his thoughts were already one foot in the past. Or perhaps it was simply as out of the blue as it felt. Regardless, as he approached a familiar face from Stonewall, he stumbled slightly and came to a stop next to him. The way he was looking with such intensity at the screen, eyes alight with a intelligence and passion, fingers dancing on the keys. His thoughts were flooded with the memory of Dahlia writing what would become her Pulitzer award winning article. She had looked over at him, breathless and smiling. He was pulled from the memory by a slightly annoyed voice. "Oh... oh. I'm sorry Sir. You reminded me of someone."
Tumblr media
Newfound Inspiration
Jughead was seated in one of the corner tables of Pop's. He had his laptop sitting in front of him and a half-eaten burger with fries resting beside it on the table with a milkshake seemingly forgotten as it slowly melted inside its glass. He'd purposely chosen a slow time of day so he wouldn't be taking up any needed space as his fingers tapped along the keyboard in front of him. He'd been struggling with writer's block for months, and eventually had scrapped what he'd started almost two years ago because any inspiration for that was long gone and, instead, was starting on something new. Would he finish it and attempt to get it published at some point? He didn't know yet, but he knew it was the spark he needed to get back into his writing and that alone made it worth the time and effort. He was so focused on his writing that he didn't even register that someone had approached his table until they were directly beside it. "I know for a fact there are plenty of other tables." Jughead said, his gaze not once leaving the screen in front of him to look at the other as his fingers clicked away on the keyboard as the words seemed to flow out of his fingers as he typed.

[PM] Pretty sure you don't need anything else on your plate Miss. Besided it sounds like Austin will be doing a whole bunch. Miss Gwen will be coming along with him, so it sounds like a really nice night.
[PM] Speaking of having a lot on your plate, mom is taking the twins overnight so we can have some time just to ourselves. I was thinking dinner, movie, and a small scene and early to bed?
PM: Is it alright if Austin and Miss Gwen come for dinner on Sunday. Austin is going to help me come up with some new things to help with Jack's picky eating.
[PM] That sounds lovely. Let me know if you need anything from me, but I trust you to get everything organized.

Thank you Austin. Really. It can be hard to know if you're doing anything right with parenting. I appreciate it. Great. See you then.

I can only imagine. Sounds like you're doin' pretty great there, Mr. W-B, if I do say so myself. Works for me!

Parenting is sort walking a tightrope that way. Trying to allow them to be true to themselves and also help them stretch a little bit and try new things. Sunday sounds great. I'm looking forward to it. Thanks.
Tumblr media
And there's nothin' wrong with likin' what he likes. But I'm glad you're open to helpin him explore too. Yeah, I'd be happy to! Sunday night might be best cos I can bring stuff from work we can mess with. Yeah, I can see if Miss Gwen wants to come.

Yeah my mother said the same thing. And all of the books I've read agree too. Honestly, he's such a quiet, cautious kid. I know he's not just trying to be naughty or even stretch his independence. I think he genuinely just doesn't like a lot of foods. Those all sound like amazing ideas. I have a proposal. How would you like to come over for dinner some night. You could show me some of these ideas. I'd be really grateful. And besides we haven't had guests over in a long time. And of course you're welcome to bring whoever you'd like. In the meantime I'm going to try mashed cauliflower with butter tonight!
Tumblr media
I'm not a child development specialist or anythin, but I gotta say that sounds kinda normal. If ya want, I could take some of the things he likes, maybe dress 'em up a bit? Just to add some different flavor profiles for him to try, and he can see if he likes 'em or not. There's tons to do with fruit and pizza, different breadin' for nuggets and different ways to make carrots - though that one is more to do with texture - is texture a thing for him? I totally get it. I dunno, I will just never understand lyin in any form, ya know? It doesn't help like people think it is and then kids grow up with more fear of their parents than respect. Oh yeah, butter in mashed cauliflower is the best for sure! Little bit of salt too. Yeah, I guess I kinda did.

Pretty picky. He loves any fruit, pizza, chicken nuggets, carrots and that's pretty much it. I'm pretty sure a growing body needs more than pizza. I do appreciate that advice actually. I've been tempted to do just that after reading some submissive message boards. It never felt right for me though so I've been putting it off. I'm really glad to hear someone verbalize that 'not right' feeling I've had. Oh, that's actually a great idea. He doesn't hate cauliflower and mashed up with butter I bet it's delicious. Ah, I see. So busy is right up your alley? Seems like you've found that illusive 'work you love' everyone is always talking about.
Tumblr media
Well, how picky we talkin here? Yeah, definitely don't want it to be a struggle. How does he do with exchangin'? There's always ways to get the right vitamins/nutrients in play without ending up in a struggle over broccoli. Also, and I ain't a parent, and I ain't gonna tell ya how to do it, but this is just somethin I hated, so he might too - don't hide the food or trick him with it. One of my favorite things is mashed cauliflower. Texturally it's just like mashed potatoes but has more vitamins in it. I wouldn't have handled it well if someone tried to tell me it's mashed potatoes - cos no the fuck it aint. But it's real good and sometimes i prefer it to mashed potatoes. Yeah, works pretty good. Learnin somethin new all the time. Oh it gets real busy but that's where I tend to excel. I get up to no good when I'm bored.

5 yeah. He used to be less picky. It's only lately that he's started being a picky eater and I'm trying not to worry about it and not make food a power struggle. Haha, that's particularly funny because Jack rarely gets time outs. If it was ketchup that got him there it would be pretty funny. I'll keep it in mind though. Hopefully it never comes to that. Has work been going alright otherwise. All the tv shows and movies I've seen about restaurant kitchens show them as being crazy and busy.
Tumblr media
It ain't common where I come from. Yeah, but Jack's like 5 or 6 right? Somewhere round there? Ketchup is an understandable condiment for young kids who have more general palates. But if he puts it on Mac and Cheese I'm gonna request some corner time or whatever it is y'all do to negate poor behavior. It's just bout knowing the appropriate vessels for ketchup. Fries, chicken nuggets - I can even understand scrambled eggs for those who don't like hot sauce. NOT MAC AND CHEESE.

On mac and cheese? Mac and cheese? Please tell me this isn't common. Jack has recently developed a love of ketchup. I sometimes think he sees food as just a ketchup delivery system. I don't want to encourage it, but then again if it gets him to eat something healthy I've been rolling with it. However I don't want to raise someone who puts ketchup on everything.
Tumblr media
The literal worst thing happened at work the other night. My mac and cheese - yeah, my mac and cheese was sent back cos they wanted ketchup on it. I HAVE STANDARDS! I will NOT make a mockery of a Southern staple with that insidious condiment on that. Like, seriously, since when did y'all start wantin ketchup on EVERYTHIN!?

I think you overestimate my talent with a camera. I can't even manage to take some snaps with my phone. Do you think? I always worry that having them around makes people a little uncomfortable.
Maybe you could work the camera and I could stage it? Also the whole campus would riot if you didn’t keep them.

Maybe if we could find someone to actually work the camera. Haha, I will. I most certainly would.
We’d make a good team though! You should definitely keep them. I think you’d suffer from cuteness withdrawal if you didn’t.

I suppose now that I actually think about it, there's a lot more to working an actual camera than just the staging of the picture. Well, your excellent at staging and ideas. Aww, you're so sweet. Yeah, they're pretty alright. I think I'll keep them haha.
I don’t really know how to use a camera. I can mess with the ISO and the zoom, but that’s about it. Also, not all kids are a pleasant as yours.
