I bound Unsphere the Stars by CocoArtist @cocoartistwrites, available on Ao3 https://archiveofourown.org/works/24407335?view_full_work=true.

I used Canva and Procreate to design the front and back images, chapter headings and front and back cover HTV design. Sometimes I struggle and want to add ALL the DETAILS lol.

I also bound Peremo by Virennia @devdevlin, available on Ao3 https://archiveofourown.org/works/33960232?view_full_work=true. I used Canva to design these chapters headings and frames. This one is a coloured version hehe and includes pretty art in the typeset by various artists including the talented @stinkycheesecult and @artofcrumbs and of course the OG title art by @nini-june

I am in love with gold foil HTV, it still does not quite LOVE me back, BUT we will get there… If anyone has any recommendations for good gold foil HTV please let me know - I am currently using Siser Metal.

This was such a fun exchange, and I got to bind two of my favourite stories. If you haven’t delved into Tomione yet… What are you waiting for?!

Confession - I hadn’t read The Hunger Games yet, and ran to read them first. Then, I started on the Peeta’s Games series, and thought it might be a lil’ short for me to bind since my guestimations are always out of whack. So I thought, I’d bind the set as one. Again, cannot math. So that was going to be too thiccc, but by then I was inundated with ideas, so decided to just bind an entire set 😄.

I also might of got a little carried awayyyy whoops. I had a lottttttt of fun and spent a lotttttt of time creating the designs for the typeset, scene breaks, cover & dust jackets. I tried to do the chapter heading page designs from Peeta’s perspective. I used a mix of Procreate & Canva. I actually had a blast doing the HTV lol. I’ve never weeded so much in my life, but kind of found it thereaputic, and I really like how it turned out.

There were a number of things that made this my first cursed bind(S), the main thing being the textblock cutting/and then my endpaper/board cutting to match this, isn’t perfect by any means, BUT LET’S NOT DWELL ON THAT.

I was granted permission to bind this personal copy, and permission from the amazing artists to include some of their artwork within my typeset. ⚜️ @artofcrumbs ⚜️ @stinkycheesecult

I’ve been working on this typeset for what feels like a year. I completely redesigned it to the first one I printed over a year ago. Every chapter heading, border, scene break, page number motif, I designed and meshed to fit the vibe of the story. The chapter heading changes with a turn in the story in the epilogue. IYKYK. This is a draft bind and printed in black & white but the typeset is in colour for the art. Oh and as you can see the gold metal HTV fought me hard 😠

I put a lotttt of love and effort into this because I wanted it to be special as it’s my FAVOURITE.

IT’S SPOOKY SEASON!! 🎃 ✨The Darkwood Wand✨ by @thebemoon My first ever exchange bind, and my second ever properly completed bind is done and dusted and in the safe hands of my beautiful friend Emma @bright_owl_bindery (insta), and as part of our Aussie Binders #HalloweenDownunderFicExchange. I’d like to thank Ene @chestercompany (Insta) for allowing me to use their beautiful portrait artwork in the typeset. As a newbie binder, I stressed so much about trying to get this bind just right. I had so many ideas going on in my head, that I inundated myself and had major decision paralysis lol. I changed the chapter headings soooooooo many times, and there is over 60 chapters 💀 I hadn’t read The Darkwood Wand, but did so before binding, with the intention of getting ideas for the bind. If you haven’t read it, I suggest you do! It’s dark, it’s funny, and it’s a brilliant story. I tried to incorporate elements of the story into the bind - the clock on the cover nears 10pm; I designed Draco’s pocket watch for the scene breaks in the typeset, the Part heading pages are of an African Blackwood Tree, which the Darkwood tree is based off of. The fallout by everythursday

Okay. Here it is. My first ever sewn signatures/textblock. Now, I know it’ll probably make most of you cringe - BUT, up until this point of my 31yr old life, I have NEVER even sewn a button. I am really not a creative person and was always terrible at arts etc, being much more academic minded. I have a substantial genetic predisposition to early onset Alzheimers that my general anxiety torments me over daily. One of things my Doctor has recommended is LEARNING new things. So i thought what better way to learn new things, than to add wonderful stories to my bookshelves? Sewing it is also one of the reasons, I’ve dilly dallied for so long and have numerous typesets printed and just sitting around. So, it may be a lil UG, but this for me, is HUGE. My afterthoughts on it are: • the actual sewing wasn’t so bad! I did record it and playing it back is hilarious - the amount of concentration on my face and full body movements to get this thread though the damned holes 🤣🤣 I stabbed myself about three times but I still call that a success. • I tried to make the holes with a boxcutter knife but couldn’t seem to get further enough in, so ended up using an awl anyway. • I put too many holes for the the stitch I wanted to try so I couldn’t use the holes at the top! • I definitely think the first two or so signatures are no way near as tight/taut as the second half of the block for example so I am definitely going to work on that. • I used pre-waxed thread but I think either that or perhaps the needle was too thick? I want to try a thinner one next time. • I’m not sure if I should’ve used a third piece of binder’s tape? • It’s not as straight everywhere as I would want it, but I imagine this is where the guillotine comes in? Do people usually trim all the edges? I’m going to glue the cheesecloth on the spine today, and if I have time, set up another text block (I am doing this during my breaks at work 😅 it’s taking over my desk) Overall, I must say I am proud of my little textblock ☺️ Please drop your tips! #bookbinding #tomione #peremo #fanfiction #fanficbinding
