Haunting the Narrative Round 1

Haunting the narrative means that the character’s absence heavily impacts the plot. They’re not present when their influence is most strongly felt, whether they’re alive or dead!

Do you like to imagine random characters fighting? Then this is the blog for you!

We’ll be setting up your favorite (and least favorite) characters to fistfight against each other! Strong and weak characters alike, fighting it out! (Submissions are not open yet)

Additional info:

the first character to officially get in will get to be my profile pic for the rest of the tournament :D

This will be round robin, which means every single character that makes it in will go against each other character. Even if they lost in round 1! So this is gonna last a bit.

Due to the previous bullet point, I’m going to be accepting 100 characters at most. That’s the limit of my comfort zone.

Don’t be an asshole. This is for fun. I’m dining this for fun in the hopes that you are also having fun. I’ve been lucky that in my last tournament, everyone was pretty chill. In the end, this is just a silly poll tournament on the internet made for entertainment.

Feel free to send an ask to see how many submissions your character has gotten (once I open submissions) or to send pre-tournament propaganda to convince others to submit that character or to to just ask a question in general

I will reblog almost all propaganda, excluding people who are being assholes.

Hello hello everyone! Welcome to the fake stories poll

has this been done? I don't know!

So do you know when you are watching a show, playing a game, reading a book, ect and one of the characters in it bring up a different, fictional book, show, ect. That exists in their universe? Well this tournament is for that sort of thing. Those fake stories that exit within other stories.

Does that make sense? I hope so hehe.

I don't know how popular this sort of thing will be. But I figure there is no harm in trying this yeah?

So basic rules:

I have the right to refuse submissions that make me uncomfortable.

No things like Harry Potter (I don't know if Harry potter has fictional stories in it, but just in case)

If it is something that was later turned into a real story, like, maybe in a spin-off it, is still allowed as long as it originally was a fake story in a different story.

Im using the world story here just because its easier. If there is something like a made up video game with no plot in it that you think is cool, thats still ok.

In order to submit:

Submit things though Asks/Dms.

-When you submit tell me the name of the fake story (If it doesn't have a name that's ok)

-Tell me the name of the show.game,ect the story was found in.

-Then of course you can tell me about the story, if there even is anything that we know about said story.

I feel as if this tournament must exist somewhere, but I looked for two hours and couldn't find it. So I've decided to be the change I want to see in the world and subject all of you to it.

Do you have a red-hot take that you know most people wouldn't agree with, but are still absolutely willing to fight for it? This is the place where it belongs. Let's pit them against each other in a fight for validation!

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

Your take can be about literally anything at all, as long as you feel the vast majority of people would disagree. Even though you're right. And they're just afraid to admit it.

Basically, if it's a hill you're willing die on - even if you have to do it alone - then it belongs right here.

Oh, and it kinda goes without saying, but terfs and bigots stay away.

You can submit all your scalding takes right here:

Feel free to submit as many as you like!

RULES FOR VOTING:

The way voting will work is like this: everyone casts their votes for which of the two opinions they most agree with - if they had to choose - and then the take with the fewest votes will advance. The last take standing will then be officially crowned the single most blistering take on this hellish website.

The only other rule is that if you accidentally see a matchup, you are then morally obligated to vote for a take, even if you would rather die than agree with either. Refusing to vote is strictly prohibited - you must validate one or the other.

Propaganda is encouraged - fight for your cause!

I just submitted mutton man... I was half asleep and only on re-reading realized I somehow misunderstood the assignment. I thought it was a Who Was your Favourite Background NPC Character for some reason? And then submitted a character who is only a disembodied voice on the silent characters poll. Sorry about that.

Background characters with no dialogue always wind up being my favourites. I feel seen. It feels wonderful.

I've always been a fan of characters I can basically make up anything about, no worries about being ooc, they can become whatever you want them to, its glorious.

Do they have to be completely silent or are we allowed to submit characters who speak when they're in the story, they're just in the story twice?

Not really sure what you mean by this but if they have an independent dialogue line in canon then they are disqualified, thems the rules sorry

What about characters who have said a line along with other people? (like, a whole classroom having a speech bubble saying "what?!", but otherwise that character doesn't really have any unique or individual dialogue lines)

Since theres not really a way to glean a personality from these lines as they're part of a group, I'd say they still count
