"MORALS OR RULES DON'T MATTER. ANYMORE. I've got people to protect and I don't care about your stupid friend" my uncontrollable rage shouted, whilst I was screaming silently on the inside.
My gun aimed steady at who I assume was Kassie as that's what the other Gangle called her. My hand eased on the trigger..but then the chief barged in.
"Detective," he said right as he came through the door. "Something-" he stopped mid sentence. His eyes fixating on the scene before him.
His first instinct was to tackle me down and knock me out, the last thing I remembered seeing was Gummigoo hitting me with his nightstick upside the head
"Ladies, are you okay?" Gummigoo got up and looked at Kassie and VA Gangle with gentle and genuine concern in his accented voice.
Then, a mumbled side comment, "Pomni isn't usually like this."
Kassie: hey are you the detective that we heard about?, we like to talk!
VA gangle: we um like to ask a few questions about ARV..
I sigh deeply as they enter the fact they look vaguely like Officer Gangle, and I made me uneasy.
I cross my arms and sigh. "ARV.. you say..." The silence is preferable, but I carry on. "Make it quick. I'm a busy detective."

My mind was not mine anymore, something got ahold of it. And yet, I couldn't stop it. All I felt was rage. Unbridled rage that these two would not leave me alone. So I'll make them leave me alone. One way or another.
"What part of LEAVE DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND?!"
Then a shot from my pistol. Straight for one of them.
BANG!
Kassie: hey are you the detective that we heard about?, we like to talk!
VA gangle: we um like to ask a few questions about ARV..
I sigh deeply as they enter the fact they look vaguely like Officer Gangle, and I made me uneasy.

Taken aback by the situation, I grow tense. I don't know what Dark X had planned, but I wasn't going to defy them or whatever powers they have. "You...barge into my office demanding for me to release someone."
"First of all, I don't keep them at my office...that'd be stupid."
"Second, I wouldn't tell you where she is being contained anyway. So you'd better get out of my office if you know what's good for you."

Good job detective..
Here take this as a gift..
*a dark glow comes from the badge*
It’s a nice little badge for your detective work..
Don’t show it to anyone..
If you do.., I won’t be so friendly…
Enjoy your gift.., you won’t regret it one bit..
X)
I look at the gift from the mysterious being, the dark glow putting me in a temporary trance. I shake my head and shove it in my coat pocket...
I can't help but feel guilty for arresting ARV.. but I have my dignity and people to protect, and I've seen what this thing made of.

My eyes dropped with worry, personally weighing on the fact that I know ARV hasn't actually done anything wrong but I can't say a word.
"I have to trust my sources and references. Please understand. If you have anymore questions," I sigh. "You can ask Chief Gummigoo. I can't help you right now ARV."
I can feel my arms stiffen up as I swiftly and gently shove ARV into a holding cell at The Precinct.
I then lock it and turn away to leave.
Say detective..I need a small favor from you..
I need you to arrest ARV.., shes getting to close from saving her..
So take her out..:)
Or else..
I sigh...
"I'm sorry, Miss ARV, but you're under arrest..."
"I have people I need to protect.. and..." My voice trails off as if there's a frog in my throat. And there is on a technicality, but I don't know of ARV should know that..
"You have the right to remain silent.. anything you do or say can and will be held against you in the court of law..."

Pom how could you arrest Ken?!
You don’t have proof that he did a murder, let alone know who he may have killing in this suppoed “murder” >:(
"Multiple missing persons reports within your area, a place called the "Gaslight District" or something along those lines. Eyewitness reports and investigations all lead back to his butcher shop. The proof is in these files."
I hold up the files for you, "of course, prying citizen eyes won't be getting their hands on this.

Case 3: Syrup Heist(Candy Carrier Chaos)
Part 1: New Partner, Sticky Situations
°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°Next
Getting called up to Chief Gummigoo’s office? Yeah, that was like getting smacked in the face with a cold, digital fish.
Look, I was still picking up the pieces after that disaster with the Abstractions—Max, Kaufmo, Queenie… all twisted up like some kind of nightmarish balloon animals.
Every time I closed my eyes, bam, there they were. And the way Gangle just—poof—disappeared, left this gnawing emptiness.
Thanks, universe. Appreciate it.
And now, as if fate hadn’t already sucker-punched me enough, I get stuck with Ribbit.
Ribbit.
The guy’s basically a walking pile of pond scum, no matter how many times he tries to “blend in.”
He’s always leaking or sweating or whatever amphibians do, and every word out of his mouth is just—ugh..
The kind of cop who’d sell out his own grandma for a shiny badge or a shout-out at roll call.
Gummigoo pairing us up? That had to be some cosmic joke.
“Detective Pomni,” Gummigoo thundered, his gooey body jiggling behind that ridiculous desk of his, “I trust you’ve heard about the… incident… at Digital Delights Syrup Factory?”
I gave him my best ‘I-don’t-care’ face. “Sorta. Not really my circus, Chief. I’m usually chasing down rouge programs or spam bots who think they’re James Bond.”
He went full drama: “A major shipment of maple syrup—One of New DigiYork’s main exporte —gone. Vanished.
Not your average byte-bandits, either. We’re talking Mafia.”
Great. The Mafia. The idea of them running syrup jobs almost made me laugh, except, you know, it was my job to care.
Ribbit piped up, basically vibrating with glee. “Wait, wait—so they jacked a syrup truck? Like, a full-on, armored ride?”
Gummigoo looked like he was about to burst with pride. “Exactly, Officer Ribbit. Reinforced transport, latest security. Poof—gone. I want that syrup back, and those mannequins behind digital bars.”
He chucked a file at us. Classic cop move. “Here’s your starter pack. Don’t screw it up.”
The second we hit the hallway, I spun on Ribbit. “Don’t get cute. This is my show, greenie. You’re backup. Got it?”
He just grinned, that gross, bubbly laugh oozing out. “Sure, sure. I’m just here to help.”
Yeah, right.
Back at my personal office—if you could call it that—there was barely room to breathe. Files everywhere, sticky notes multiplying like rabbits, and a coffee mug that probably qualified as a biohazard. Chaos, but it was my chaos.
Ribbit’s beady little eyes took it all in. “Nice place. Real homey,” he said, hopping around and leaving little wet footprints everywhere.
I pretended he wasn’t even there and flipped open the file. The first few pages? Boring as hell—just the usual cop paperwork: inventory sheets, witness yammering, some barely legible vehicle descriptions. But then I hit the jackpot: three blurry security cam pics, each one weirder than the last.
First up, a mannequin—pale blue, face frozen in that dead-eyed, “I’m listening but not really” kinda tilt. Creepy. Next, a gray mannequin, stiff as a corpse, clutching what looked suspiciously like a crowbar. And then the nightmare fuel: a mannequin in a football helmet, staring straight into the lens, eyes emptier than my fridge on payday.
The way it held its head… gave me the chills. Like it actually knew what it was doing.
Ribbit leaned in, grinning like he’d just solved the case. “Well, well, well. Looks like the mannequins are throwing a party and we weren’t invited.”
“These are our guys,” I said, tapping the photos. “Light Blue, Grey, and Helmet Head. Caught on camera inside the factory, right before the syrup job.”
Ribbit’s eyes lit up with that annoying excitement he gets. “So, where do we start?”
“We go straight to the source,” I said, snatching my coat and heading out. “The Digital Delights Syrup Factory. Let’s see what these plastic weirdos left behind.”
The factory was a monster—metal everywhere, machines clanking, and the air so thick with fake maple scent it made my teeth ache.
Crime scene tape everywhere.
A couple of uniformed cops hung around looking like they’d rather be anywhere else. Can’t blame them.
Honestly? The place was spotless. Whoever ran this mannequin crew, they left no mess. No busted locks, no signs of a fight. It was like the truck just vanished—poof—gone.
I spent ages poking around. Watched the same ten seconds of security footage about fifty times, grilled the night shift, even crawled under the loading dock until I got a face full of dust and regret.
Nothing.
Meanwhile, Ribbit was basically useless. He bounced around, making dumb jokes and shoving syrup samples in his mouth. The guy’s got priorities, I’ll give him that.
“You gotta try this maple-bacon one,” he said, licking his sticky fingers. “Weirdly good, not gonna lie.”
“Try focusing, Ribbit,” I snapped. I was running out of patience, and caffeine.
By the time the pixelated sunset turned the factory floor into a bad signal, I finally spotted something.
Shoved under some crumpled boxes near the dock—one tiny, metal button. Easy to miss. Felt heavy in my palm, cold and smooth, with some weird symbol stamped on it. Didn’t ring any bells, but my gut said it mattered.
“Ribbit,” I called, holding up the button. “Check this out. Our first real clue.”
He hopped over, eyes wide. “What is it? Mannequin fashion accessory?”
I shrugged. “No clue. But I’m betting it’s important.” I could already feel that rabbit hole yawning open.
Who knew how deep this thing went—or how much trouble we’d stir up poking around. With Ribbit on my team, nothing ever went according to plan.
But hey, somebody had to chase down the Mafia. And if it meant getting Gangle back—or at least figuring out what the hell was going on in New DigiYork—I was all in. Syrup heist or not.

CASE 2: Contracted Abstraction
Epiloge
Previous••••••••••••••••••••••••••••Case 3
New DigiYork never sleeps—just flickers and glitches out, neon bouncing off soaking pavement and making my head swim.
All week, nothing but static and dead data trails. Gangle? She might as well be a corrupted file at this point.
My gut's twisted up, and it feels like everyone’s already forgetting her—like she’s just another error message in the city’s code.
Meanwhile, Chief Gummigoo’s got his “moving on” speech already loaded. “Detective Pomni,” he bellowed (big guy, big lungs, all drama), “we need to face the facts… Officer Gangle may be… irretrievable.”
Yeah, sure, boss. Let’s just slap her name on some virtual wall and call it closure. Like Gangle’s just some glitch we can patch over.
Not on my watch.
And then—because apparently, the universe hates me—I get stuck with Ribbit. Officer Ribbit.
Slippery as a leaky data stream, always twitching, always looking like he’s got a secret side gig in malware. Even his voice sounds like it’s been compressed one too many times.
“So, Detective,” he croaks, fiddling with a tie that’s at least two sizes too big, “Chief says this is a ‘missing persons’ deal, right? Dot the i’s, cross the t’s, all that?” His grin’s all frog teeth and zero sincerity.
“We’re not closing the case, Ribbit. We’re finding her.” I’m drumming my nails on the dash, trying not to snap the steering wheel clean off.
He does this weird, wet laugh. “Yeah, yeah. If you say so. But, y’know, statistically—”
I cut him off before he can get going. “This city eats statistics for breakfast. You ever seen Caine disintegrate a guy? If logic worked here, none of us would still be breathing. Gangle didn’t just disappear—somebody made her vanish.”
He shuts up, thank god. Silence. Just the hum of the engine and the city streaming by like a busted screensaver.
I can’t stop replaying the last few days with Gangle. Every joke, every late-night stakeout, every time she managed to make this place feel a little less cold.
Did she drop any clues? Did someone weird her out? Nothing.
I’m coming up empty.
We pull up outside her place—barely more than a closet in a sketchy neighborhood where the shadows look like they’re up to something.
Ribbit lingers at the door, like he’s scared the wallpaper might bite him. Inside, it’s quiet. Too quiet. Smells like those pixel-flowers she loved.
Everything’s untouched. Her tapestry’s still on the wall, half-finished, threads all tangled up and messy. Kinda like my brain right now.
I’ll admit it—a wave of hopelessness hits me. Maybe Gummigoo’s right. Maybe I’m just chasing a ghost.
Nah. Screw that. I’m not quitting on her. Not for some digital plaque, not for Chief’s peace of mind, and definitely not just to keep Ribbit happy.
Gangle’s out there, somewhere, and I’m gonna tear this city apart until I get her back. One way or another.
