Idk maybe I’m just touchy bc it happened to me irl, but I feel like we shouldn’t be romanticising emotional abuse? Like, writing fics where a character neglects another for days after they made a simple mistake, and then love bombing them later isn’t cute and romantic. It’s emotional abusive. It’s manipulative behaviour. Being neglected and made to feel like you’re worthless isn’t cute. Having the antagoniser suddenly make up for it with over-the-top gestures isn’t cute. That’s manipulation. “No you can’t leave me, look how nice I was after this. You need me. You rely on me.” That’s abuse. Why the fuck is this being romanticised. Don’t even get me STARTED on morally grey boyfriends. Stalking isn’t romantic!! Needing to know where someone is at all times isn’t romantic!!! Having your texts read bc they “are looking out for you” isn’t romantic!!! It’s abuse!!!
