Before the availability of the tape recorder and during the 1950s, when vinyl was scarce, people in the Soviet Union began making records of banned Western music on discarded x-rays. With the help of a special device, banned bootlegged jazz and rock ‘n’ roll records were “pressed” on thick radiographs salvaged from hospital waste bins and then cut into discs of 23-25 centimeters in diameter. “They would cut the X-ray into a crude circle with manicure scissors and use a cigarette to burn a hole,” says author Anya von Bremzen. “You’d have Elvis on the lungs, Duke Ellington on Aunt Masha’s brain scan — forbidden Western music captured on the interiors of Soviet citizens.”

The CT scans have allowed researchers to make a lot of new discoveries about Tamut. By analyzing her pelvic bone, they were able to find her approximate age (between 30 and 50). Gazing into her arteries, they found a possible cause of death -- plaque build-up that could have resulted in a heart attack or stroke.

Antoine's team could also see the amulets placed around her body in vivid detail (several of which have been 3-D printed using the CT scan data).
"We're even able to discern the inscriptions on some of the amulets," notes Antoine, including one of the Eye of Horus on a plate covering the incision used to remove her internal organs.
"The Eye of Horus was believed to have healing properties, so it could have been used to heal her wounds in the afterlife," explains Antoine.

"This man was presented with abdominal pain for 3 days. He was in severe pain and despite that he was reluctant to visit the ER.
CT with contrast was done to rule out other causes. Multiple radio opaque objects were seen all of them with similar morphology and density and were seen in the left hemicolon. One of these objects was sharp enough to actually puncture his rectum, and hence causing the severe abdominal pain.
After suregry more than 45 drug pellets were recovered - an expensive surprise! "

X-rays took the world by storm after their discovery. This ad from 1896 describes a headache remedy called Kohler's Antidote as a dose of "x-ray exposure"—though the medicine didn't emit any x-rays.
Advertisers were quick to associate their products with the term "x-ray." In addition to headache medicines, there were x-ray golf balls, x-ray stove polish, x-ray prophylactics, and x-ray shaving razors. (Read more about "x-ray mania" in the RadioGraphics journal.)

It’s all fun & games until someone loses an eye…or until THIS happens!
Image SP2958 (Beer bottle in a man’s rectum, X-ray)  A colored x-ray of a beer bottle lodged in a man’s rectum. The top end of this bottle (orange) has become stuck. The medical notes describe this patient as a victim of a prank while comatose due to excessive alcohol consumption. The bones of the pelvis are seen around the bottle top, with the spine at the top.
