I apologize if you’ve been asked this question before I’m sure you have, but how do you feel about AI in writing? One of my teachers was “writing” stories using ChatGPT then was bragging about how good they were (they were not good) and said he was going to sell them. To put aside any legal concerns in that, I’m just trying to talk him down from that because, personally, I would not enjoy dream job being taken by AI.

The poor man.

Many magazines have closed their submission portals because people thought they could send in AI-written stories.

For years I would tell people who wanted to be writers that the only way to be a writer was to write your own stories because elves would not come in the night and do it for you.

With AI, drunk plagiaristic elves who cannot actually write and would not know an idea or a sentence if it bit their little elvish arses will actually turn up and write something unpublishable for you. This is not a good thing.

As a T1, I can't imagine how scary survival would be for me without accessible medical supplies. Without supplies and option would normally be to ration insulin and testing supplies and avoid carbohydrates in favor of fats and protein.

However, refugee supplies are usually shelf stable staples, grains, rice, etc. In a situation where you get very little food, and it is probably all carbohydrates, it is a recipe for starvation. What's worse is that having very high blood sugar impacts cognition and makes you thirsty as hell, and you have to urinate constantly. With poor water access and sanitation, it is a downward spiral.

I'm absence of quality insulin supply (which requires reliable refrigeration), getting community support for low carb calories and having testing devices available is crucial for diabetics.

I'm so proud of this, it is my first completed game jam game. My partner helped me with concept, writing, and QA and we've dedicated the game to the rat sanctuary we co-founded, Rat Way Sanctuary. The pink eyed white in the game is our girl Enoki 💚🐀💚

I ought to be working right now, but I'm overcome. Willow, one of our pet rats, has a series of tumors that we can't in good conscience operate on - the risks and recovery time are not worth it at her age, and we'd rather give her more time in her happy, lumpy state than put her through that.

My partner and I co-founded a rat sanctuary, so I'm deeply familiar with the grief of losing our tiny friends. Rats rarely live to three years old, and often die to some kind of tumor or other malady long before that. They are rambunctious animals - often social, bursting with life, eager to explore, and almost totally unequipped for the consequences of being a small, fragile species in a big, dangerous world.

Living a short life doesn't mean anything for how much we love them. Ask any parent who has lost a newborn, often those short, unrealized loves are the hardest to process, are the longest to nourish our grief.

Willow has had a good, long life with us in rat terms. She is technically a foster, but she is 100% family. I hope we can give her a pain-free end at the perfect time so that the last pattern in her consciousness is of comfort, friends, family if they can see us that way, and the best treats she could wish for.
