My Personal Brand Statement
Personal brand statements are a great quick way for people to learn about you and your personality. They are a way of marketing yourself to the world. It is imperative that you take the time to write an accurate personal brand statement since it’s part of the impression that other people have of you. These kinds of statements are often used on resumes, to let prospective employers know who you are.
Tumblr media
Here are the steps I took in writing my own personal brand statement:
1. Brainstorming
To get ideas flowing about my personal brand statement, I started off by writing down all the words that I use to describe my personality. I had written down things like; bubbly, funny, smile, happy, cheerful, laughter, etc.
2. Pick the best one(s)
Looking at my list, I tried to narrow it down by crossing out words that I thought were too general or not specific enough to me. I also eliminated those that I felt weren’t completely representative of me. I stopped when I was left with 2 words that I felt best described me: “happy” and “laughter”.
3. Write a few statements
Using my best-fitting words, I wrote a few brand statements. The aim was to have different options and choose the best one.
4. Pick the best one!
After writing a few statements down, I realized that I liked certain parts of different ones, so I decided to string them together into one perfect statement.
Here it is!
“I stay positive by laughing hard and laughing often. Life’s pretty boring if you can’t find comedy in the bad parts.”

Think you know how to Google? Think Again.
Everyone can use Google. But do you know how to use it properly? Check out some of these search tips to see if you’re a Google pro!
Tumblr media
1. How to search for an exact word or phrase
When searching for a precise word, it’s best to enclose the word in quotations. When searching for a phrase this ensures that Google looks for those words in the exact order,
Example: “dog treat”
2. How to search for something on a specific site
In order to do this, type the keyword you are looking for, then the word site with a colon following, and lastly, the specific site’s URL. And of course the lazy man’s version is to click Command/Control + F while on the specific site.
Example: puppies site:ontariospca.ca
3. How to correctly search for a definition
When looking for the meaning of a specific word, simply enter the word define followed by a colon, and then the word.
Example: define:puppy
4. How to search for a specific product available within a specific price range
The easiest way to do this is to type the desired product, $ sign followed by your least amount, 2 dots, and then $ sign followed by your most amount.
Example: dog collar $15..$30
5. How to search for a specific filetype
To do this, simply enter your keyword, the word filetype followed by a colon, and then enter your desired file type (i.e. pdf, mp3, mp4, jpeg, wav, avi, etc.)
Example: pet insurance filetype:pdf
6. How to include or ignore words in your search
To include, simply enter (+) between the words.
Example: puppies+kittens
To exclude words, enter (-) in front of the word you want to be ignored.
Example: puppies -labrador
7. How to find sites/pages similar to an existing one
In the Google search box, enter related followed by a colon, and then the site you wish to find similar pages to.
Example: related:torontostar.com
8. How to confirm the exact form of a quote even if you are missing some of the words
To do this, simply place an asterisk in place of the word(s) you are missing.
Example: Dogs are * best friend
9. How to search for pages containing two connected words
In the Google search box, enter (-) between the two words with no spaces.
Example: dog-stroller
10. How to search for social media content containing a specific tag
When doing this, simply type a hashtag (#) in front of the social media content you wish to look for.
Example: #goldenretriever

Best Practices for Personal Social Media Use
Since the age of social media began, it’s been relatively simple to make an account on any social networking platform. It took me less than 2 minutes to create this Tumblr account and the same goes for other forums such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Instagram, and the like. But since it IS so easy to create an online profile, we should be vigilant when choosing what we post out for the world to see. After all, as Jeff Bezos said, “Your brand is what people say about you when you are not in the room”.
Social media gives us the opportunity to pick and choose what we share about ourselves. You should share the things that you want everyone to know about, such as your hobbies, passions, and what your personality is like. But since it’s so easy to post, oversharing can become an issue. You want to avoid posting incessantly or even posting things that people don’t need to know.

The Internet has greatly expanded our audience since virtually everyone has access to it. Special attention should be taken to carefully and mindfully put your thoughts into words as to not offend people with them. The last thing you want is to for your past social media posts to come up when you’re in a job interview!
Another thought to keep in mind is, who is your audience?. You shouldn’t be tweeting about how boring your family BBQ is if your family members follow you on Twitter!
Lastly, the most important thing to consider when using social media is your account handle. Make a simple username so people can easily find you. Don’t make them inappropriate like: @hotkitty69. Your username/handle is what people will remember you by, so make a good first impression!
