As the sound of classic rock started to resonate inside the floating vessel, the ship slowly raised itself until it could propel itself forward safely. Then it sped forward with a ffffffoooommmm!, almost as if it was shot of a gun.
Inside the ship, the guitars sang as the PTS soared out of the planets atmosphere.
âBuckle in, itâll take a bit to get to the ship now. Also, itâs disorienting to be in zero G while sitting down, so use the harness above you,â Dimitri recommended to Blythe.
âHey after this could you play something by Ennio Morricone?â was audible from the back.
âCan do Hermes,â Thaila responded, punching in a song.
âYou and your Morricone music. Ugh, canât you give up on the western music? We are a long way from the wild wild west,â Dimitri complained.

âMusic?â Thaila asked. âIt might take a bit to get the system booted and to take off.â
Dimitri looked at Thaila and replied, âIâm thinkinâ âYou Shook Me All Night Longâ, what do you want?â he questioned, gesturing to Blythe.
Thalia rolled her eyes and entered the cockpit while Dimitri walked over to the control pad on the wall and started typing in commands. He then looked at Blythe, waiting for her preference of song.
The transportâs engines flared up, finishing booting, as the wum wum wum echoed quietly. The PTS lifted up slightly, evening out to be perfectly straight above the ground, hovering above the earth by a half-foot.

âYouâd be surprised,â Hermes blurted. âThere are just those people.â
The squad slowly stepped into the PTS, setting all of their weapons to safeties on. Each member casually took their place in the vehicle, with Thalia taking the driverâs seat while everyone else sat in the main compartment. Gerly wasted no time in cleaning his weapon, while Hermes set right to napping. Dimitri remained standing by the doorway.
âSo,â Thaila asked, booting up the transport. âWhat brought you to this planet? Were you searching for something, or just trying to get away? There are times when even I need a vacation.â
Thailaâs last comment brought a sly grin to Dimitriâs face.

âWe,â Thalia started, âAre a part of the HPS, Heigharan Protection Services, essentially a multiversal governmental police force,â she said looking around at the squad.
Dimitri stepped forward, officially stating, âI am Dimitri. This is Gerly, Hermes, and Thalia,â he reported, gesturing toward the individual people. â We kindly ask you to remain in the PTS for transportation to any place of your liking in the multiverse. We also ask you to remain calm and realize we mean you no harm. I know that this is a lot to ask, Iâve been in your place before, but we must move you to a populated area or planet where the natural evolution of the environment will not be disturbed.â
Everyone stopped and patiently waited for the womanâs response.

Hearing the voice inside, Hermes decided to put down his weapon, stepping into the open doorway slowly with his hands raised. The squad followed suit.
âWe mean you no harm. We recently discovered anomalies in the ecosystem nearby and were tracking the signals,â Gerly recited. âWe truly come with no intentions of violence. But sometimes, things get out of hand.â He finished this last sentence with a dramatic pause, looking at the marks on his pistol. The tallies that you could see while it was still in its holster were impressive. All over the pistol were tallies, no space was left unmarked.
Hermes picked up Gerlyâs weapon, showing the girl that the safety was on, then lowering his sights. Thalia and Dimitri did the same. Thalia stepped into the PTS slowly, and calmly, her weapon hanging from its strap across her shoulder and chest. Everyone else stayed outside, intently monitoring the girl, but keeping their weapons down and away from the woman.

The squad approached the PTS, slowly moving to the doors. Thalia randomly tripped over a rock, attempting to roll to the other side, creating quite a commotion. Thankfully, with the door shut, the whole squad was able to sigh with relief; the door was mostly sound proof.
Oddly, a voice came from inside. This must be the anomaly. Whatever creature inside must be the cause for all of the disturbances in the sector.
Dimitri approached the door. Gerly hit the button. The door opened and revealed what was inside.

âCommander, thereâs the PTS,â Thaila pointed out to Dimitri.
âGood, set her down there,â Dimitri said, pointing to a small clearing on the cliff above. âWe can drop down from there.â
The flying PTS set down on the top of the cliff. The squad disembarked from the shuttle, readying grapples. Gerly and Thaila rappelled down the rocky, gray cliff first, repelling every meter or so.
Dimitri and Hermes followed, covered by the two already at the bottom of the cliff.

Dimitri awoke. He checked his Thwigh Corporation Issued Military Watch (TCMW for short). It read 0400 planet-time. He woke up his squad mates. Gerly already awake, proceeded to search his bag, to the confusion of the others.
âWhatâs up?â Thaila asked.
âIâm checking my bag again, but I think the cat stole my TCMW, since none of you have it.â
âGod, Gerly. Thatâs the fifth one this sector!â Hermes exclaimed.
âItâs fine, Hermes. Weâll drill the next one into his arm,â Dimitri bantered.
âHa ha. Very funny. Iâm dying of laughter,â said the sarcastic Gerly.
âHey, my scanner shows the watch is moving towards our PTS (Planetary Transport Shuttle). We can catch it if we call another down to fly us over,â Thaila reported.
âAlright, letâs move,â Dimitri commanded.
A few minutes later, the sun was still down, their camp was packed up, and the shuttle had arrived. They walked into the automated transport and took off. The shuttle silently, but brightly flew towards the landing zone of the other PTS.

Gerly jumped out of his sleeping bag.Looking around the cave he saw everyone- Dimitri, Thaila, and Hermes all sleeping. Hermes was against the cave wall, sleeping. Heâd fallen asleep before he could wake one of them up for watch.
Gerly looked in his backpack for his Thwigh (T-wuh-gh) watch. It wasnât there. Neither was the cat. The cat had stolen his watch. Dragging Hermes back to his sleeping bag, Gerly took watch again, ordering a new watch. âGood thing the insurance covers it,â he thought.

The cat kept walking. The feline continued to stroll through the forest despite what might be in the forest. The Daijaque (Da-ja-k), Hermes, continued to follow the cat on his five legs. The furry quintoped, relaxed, walked behind the cat.
âHermes!â I whispered urgently. âBe on guard!â I commanded. Our pace slowed.
The day was beginning to wear away when the cat finally stopped. We were in a small clearing next to a cave. Even if the cat continued to walk, we would end our day in the cave.
We cleared the area, finding bodies everywhere, and proceeded to place a barrier around the mouth of the cave and roll out our sleeping bags. Hermes and Gerly took first watch.
Thaila took readings of the dead, having dragged around 10 into the cave. The victims had been burned or frozen, or both when they died. Her scannerâs readings confirmed that these people were killed by the flashes we detected in space. Thaila continued to autopsy the bodies, discovering that this particular type of fire had been projected at its victims, not starting on their bodies. Projected. Through the air. Onto its victims. The same results occurred when she tested the frozen carcasses.
Before I went to sleep, I pulled out rations for the night. I hydrolyzed the particles with water, making fish for the cat, and standard meal for the rest of us. The meal was steak, beans, potatoes, and gravy.

âSir, readings have detected portions of Planet 11P92-TR4 suddenly bursting into flame and then freezing over. We have been sent to investigate by HQ,â a crew member aboard the Hercules Mark 14 reported.
Dimitri stepped toward the Admiralâs Chair. âPlot a course.â
âInitiating ITM. Firing.â
The Hercules suddenly shot a beam in front of itself into space via the Instantaneous Travel Mechanism. A wormhole appeared in front of the ship, remaining open until the ship passed through it. The Titan Class Heavy Destroyer warped to the planet.
âIâm going planetside. Get my team ready,â Dimitri ordered the crew. He arrived in the space shuttle a few minutes later. Inside the space shuttle was Dimitriâs team including his wife, Captain Thaila, Sargent Gerly, Lieutenant Hermes, and Type 9 Pilot Hew Teir. The shuttle launched toward the planet.
Arriving smoothly on the planetâs surface, the shuttleâs passengers disembarked at the most recent incident location. Dimitri stepped off, followed by Thaila, Gerly, and Hermes. The squad followed the directions of the Herc 14â˛s crew, progressing through the jungle planet.
The team eventually arrived at a small clearing, a few hours on-planet. A rustle in the bushes put them on guard.

Gek worked his way through all the rings, simply asking for my help and input when needed. At first, the ring looked extravagant. Too much so. But as Gek slaved away, the piece of jewelry took form as a beautiful, humble masterpiece. I loved it, seeing it transform over time. The item became perfect, getting better until I said no more; the ring could not improve, and any pieces would only make it worse in my eyes.
Once it was completed, I asked Gek to come back with me to present the ring to Thaila. We walked back to our couch in the lounge, meeting Thaila there.
"Hello, ŃНадкаŃ*," I crooned, pulling out the majestic ring. Silver, gold, and the blue verbractium shone throughout the priceless gems.
"Hello then, Tri," Thaila responded.
I handed her the ring, sliding it onto her palm. "From me, made by Gek-The Master Metal Worker."
"It's beautiful."
*Sweetie
âI think I might just do it. Thanks Gek,â I spoke, walking over to the checkout counter. I picked out three rings. One was gold with a titanium finish embedded with a pink diamond. The second was a silver outline containing a white gold center, surrounding a bright ruby. The final ring had a deep emerald green gem on a raised cobalt stand, on a red verbractium outline.
âGek, to actually combine the rings, you need my help. Only certain people that have a telekinetic power over the one metal can control it. It is resistant to your commands otherwise because you need a specific genetic code along with the ability,â I explained on the way to my quarters.
Once at my quarters, I let Gek take the reins of the operation. I had never done this before, he probably had.

After we walked over to the jewelry store on the ship, we started browsing the aisles. I looked at diamond, emerald, ruby, sapphire, crystalized platinum, relatively anything we had in the universe. I still did not find the perfect ring.

"You too," I replied, sprinting down a random street away from Leo. I arrived onto a busy sidewalk. I started to rob the pedestrians, keeping my money safe inside my inside coat pocket, by my breastbone. Following the flow of the crowd, I entered a subway station. I decided to steal from the rich executives when I could and hit the random worker when there were no more executives. After twenty minutes of my illegal actions, I decided to hop stations and possibly get some of the people at rush hour.
On the subway, I took off my hood and put on a hat along with a pair of shades.
âOkay then,â I spoke, leaning back into my seat. âYour challenge is accepted my fine sir. Daniel, could you please load a thievery simulation for Leo and I?â
Daniel, nicknamed Dan, was my AI companion. He was a very friendly person (he is a person since all sentient beings are considered people by the Alien Rights Consortium, also known as ARC) that could do almost anything as long as he had a computer. Dan was also the Hercules Mark 12âs greatest asset.
âWhy of course, Tri,â Dan said.
âYou too Dan?â I whined, smiling. âEveryone calls me Tri now, because of you! Not that I mind of course,â I hastily added.
The whole compartment became a bustling city. Dan explained the rules and objectives. âSteal the most valuable items on any one of these CPU people. Sell your loot at any of these stores.â Once Dan said that, every store we could use lit up and sent a beacon of light into the sky for a full five seconds. âGet caught, you lose. Whoever gets the most money wins. Watch out for other CPU thieves and robbers. They will steal from the regular CPUâs and you. Begin.â

As I scanned the room, I saw the glint of artificial light bouncing off her weapon in the dark arena. I ducked, hearing three bullets clang against the wall behind me. That was close. I have to be more wary. I stood up, scanning the areas relative to where she was headed. After a couple minutes of seeing nothing, I returned to scanning the rest of the arena.
Suddenly, I saw a moving boot. Immediately I fired at it and its possible origin point. When nothing happened I decided to take out my warp shields and place multiple mines around the area I was located in. I placed one warp shield on my weapon, and two on either side since there was a wall behind me. I placed the mines by the ladder, behind me by the wall, and one on the ramp coming up from the other direction. I activated every mine.
âSure,â I eagerly said. I walked over to the other side of the room. The shooting range disappeared, the fence and firing stations lowing into the floor, while the targets raised into the roof of the room. Walls and platforms arose, creating a random arena.
Dan spoke from the speaker. â3. 2. 1. Begin!â
I looked around as the walls were rising, seeing high ground extend to my left, with walls all around except for two breaks behind me and in front of me. As the final wall slid into place, Jez slid out of view.
After Danâs broadcast, I sprinted to my left, up the ramp, onto the heightened platform. This turned out to be a hub, with all other catwalks connecting to this platform. I decided to run to the highest platform, on the other side of the room, away from Jezabel. Crouching, I sprinted through the short cover until I reached the ladder leading to my objective. Scanning the area behind me, I saw nothing. Quickly, I excelled up the ladder. Once at the top, I took out my Assault Carbine.
The Assault Carbine had a moderate firing rate with an adjustable 4-6.5x scope. The weapon also had a miniscule delay when warming up, decreasing the time it took to fire the first shot. Since every single weapon I had was interchangeable and combinable, I used my shotgunâs barrel to become a grenade launcher fused with the bottom of my current weapon. The rest of the shotgun went into making the combined weaponâs clip larger and adding a bipod.
After I finished fusing my weapon, I placed the bipod onto the solid half-cover wall I was hiding behind.
I knew Dan would want to make the match as fair as possible. He most likely would have offered Jezabel any and all information he could on the weapons and arena.

I looked at Leo, goading him with my facial expression. âI can prove my point right now!â I shouted, reaching for his pen-looking-object.

â-But, I am going to get my things.â Thaila left for the hangar bay.

I stepped into an elevator, clicking on the shopping floor button. I was going to buy Thaila a ring, it was our anniversary after all.
