Hiii I hope your writing is coming along smoothly 🤞 especially for markhelly Week. Hopefully, the momentum is still there.

I've recently gotten back into writing fic, (also bc severance) testing the waters, and man, people who publish WIPs are way stronger than me. I'll start a one-shot or two shot. 10-20k words, and then im absolutely stuck after one point/all the build-up and then wrapping it up. I started planning my first multichapter and the amount of planning I'm doing plot and chapter wise to avoid the roadblocks man 😅

the things about WIPs is that you never have to finish them ❤️❤️ unfortunately probably going to happen to my multi chap fic…. i have the next three chapters outlined but once they fuck ??? i forgot to plan for anything after that. i’m like oooh plot? who’s she…. the tension is broken. it’s over go home….

is this something i feel bad about? sure. but also it was my first idea i was excited about and it actually got me writing fiction again. and the positive feedback i received and the other fic writers i’ve interacted with have made all the difference! it got me excited and got the creativity flowing. now i’m working on smaller, more manageable fics that i wouldn’t have had the wherewithal to shoot for before.

i’ve already learned so much. even reading other people’s fics feels different now that i’m also writing. i’m noticing so many new things.

i bit off more than i could chew the first time. but i don’t regret posting it. beautiful people in the phone leaving nice comments can kind of make all the difference in the world. so maybe if you feel comfortable starting to post, you’d feel a similar way. sometimes people stick with chapter fics a long time. i just got a notification that a fic i subscribed to over a year ago updated and i will be reading that shit tonight!

and the one piece of advice i’ll offer is to go with your first idea for an ending and don’t force it. when you don’t know what comes next… maybe it’s just over there!

The other day I saw @juilawicker tweet about how similar tmtts Isak and Eva are and ended up noticing this v obvious clue about it while re reading and now I can’t believe how dumb I’ve been to never notice that after my 15th time reading this fic.

since I am on a tmtts bender after several years of not thinking of the fic (partly out of hope) but cut to the feeling came on via one of my playlists and I've been itching to analyze it and match it up with tmtts.

Lyric -> How It Maps to Isak

“I had a dream, or was it real? / We crossed the line and it was on”

literally Chapter 1 onward. They crossed the line — enemies turned into something else. what they’re doing means something, it feels like a dream he won’t admit he’s in. he's doing everything he can to prove it doesn’t mean anything

“I've been denying how I feel / You've been denying what you want”

This is the emotional thesis of Isak’s character in tmtts. He uses logic, science, sarcasm to cover the truth: He’s in love, he’s terrified, and he’s pretending it’s “just sex.”

This also maps to Even, who knows what he wants, but holds back to protect Isak. Two people mirroring repression — for different reasons.

I’ve been in hiding, backsliding, keep rewinding”

Isak’s entire emotional M.O. He pulls back the second he gets too close.

Isak’s constant pattern: move close → pull back → pretend nothing happened. It’s a loop. A trap. He’s stuck in emotional reruns.

“I want to cut through the clouds, break the ceiling”

Isak trying to push past his emotional shutdown, but terrified of what’s on the other side. The longing underneath Isak’s denial.

“I want to play where you play, with the angels”

His subconscious awe of Even — the way Even feels transcendent, bright, unreachable.

Could mirror how Isak views Even — light-filled, unreachable, fearless. Isak wants to “play” in that world — to feel free and seen. But he’s still scared of what that would mean.

"I want to wake up with you all in tangles”

The sleepover rule, the longing for emotional intimacy masked as sexual connection. Physical intimacy is fine — but sleeping beside someone? That’s love territory. That’s emotional tangling. That’s the line.

“I want to cut to the feeling”

He wants to be held, be seen, say it out loud — but he keeps stopping himself. The truth behind all of it. They both want to stop pretending. But they’re trapped in cycles of almost.

"No more dreaming of the dead...”

Wanting to move beyond numbness and loss (father, self). Isak’s trauma. His father. His mother. His own depression. He’s trying to move past the numbness — but doesn’t know how.

“I want to cut to the feeling / Oh yeah / I want to cut to the feeling”

The whole fic builds around this desire. They won’t say it — but they want to. Each chapter circles the edge of honesty, but the tension always resets. This line is like an emotional pressure cooker.

"I want to dance on the roof, you and me alone”

Literal rooftop scene. Stargazing. The near-confession. Even says Isak is made of stars. Isak almost lets himself believe it
