Shanz came to Hyrule from another world– more accurately, he was taken from his world and unceremoniously placed in Hyrule. He does not know how, and he has speculated endlessly to himself on the why. He's got a few ideas.
As a mercy– the world he was from was a hell of sorts, and he does not know how much longer he could or would survive in it.
As a savior– Hyrule, too, is a world in danger; with his knowledge of Hyrule's past and future, Shanz is able to nudge things in the right direction and discover new ways to reach a favorable future.
He's right in both of these counts. There may be more to it than just these, but one might say he was brought here to help save Hyrule, and if he manages it, then one might say he's earned the happy ending.

Shanz's hobbies include crochet and illustration, but he could extend the bounds of his interest to include anything to do with crafting. He's a maker, and quite convinced he can make his own fate now that he's in Hyrule.

Even though dragons such as Armok can shapeshift into any humanoid form they like, there remains one constant: Their eyes. Their sclera, iris color, and pupil shapes cannot be changed even with a dragon spirit's blessing.
In modern AUs, iris scanners are invaluable in checking a dragon's identity because of this, and dragons, being such rarities among the humanoid races, often have their eye data stored in profiles denoting who they are. Shapeshifting is that dangerous of an ability.

Shanz has sensed something deeply wrong with the force.
"Why do I feel like I'm about to be in huge trouble?"

You need to move off of Google Docs!
I know some people have seen the news recently and may be doubtful of it. To the uninformed, Google Docs has started using AI to find "inappropriate" and "problematic" content, scraping your documents and deleting it. I know some people are unsure if this is real or think this is not going to affect them.
I regret to inform you that this is real.
As I was on a call with some writers and we were moving our documents as a precautionary measure, one person discovered entire pages missing that they did not delete themselves. This is happening to us, it's not a hoax or a rumor, it's happening right now. You need to move everything if you want to preserve it.
If you're a writer with writer mutuals, please reblog this so they know. I rarely write on Google Docs anymore, but I started my fanfics on there, and I would be devastated if I lost works more than ten years old because people decided marketing appeal is more important than creative freedom.

Edited Sandalio's backstory to give him some more dimension.
He's still a former servant to the Liuvigild family, but he one day discovered his own family, the Ferros, dead to monsters in the ruins of their home. He vowed to ensure this could never happen, and spends his spare time tinkering to create superior weapons in the name of preventing this from ever happening again. He took the royal guard post knowing that the pay could easily fund his research.
This makes him one of two of my OCs who could invent firearms in the Zelda verse, the other being Nethox Iwata of the Blackscale clan.

Gateni is part Shiekah. This is actually hilarious.
Her father, Aramil Yaeldrin, has no idea. He's a racist dastard who attempted a genocide on the Shiekah living peacefully in the town of Sableflame in his lands in Deplia. But one day, he met a woman in that town who caught his eye, a Shiekah who passed for Hylian well enough that they married. It was absolutely a power play on the part of Gateni's mother: With access to Aramil's resources, she was able to assist the folks of Sableflame during the genocide and, when King Uther's military forces where sent to exterminate it, she warned them of the attack in advance. This is a significant part of how Raithyon Blackscale and many of his allies got out of there alive.

Lita and Thorn are two characters who, in their original verses, are known for their inhuman speed. In the Zelda verse (this blog), this translates to the ability to perform flurry rushes and, if either one was inclined to wield shields, perfect deflects. Although flurry rushes are commonplace in the Age of Calamity game, it's rare to see in Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom unless your name is Link or Ganondorf.
Other muses of this blog who are innately capable of flurry rushes are Link (of course) and Raven. Raven is also crazy fast, always being noted for the ability to go nyoom. It makes sense, given that Link is his son.

Headcanons Re: Erdan's Twilight Princess verse (also should I make Naal a muse cause this makes him Interesting to me)
Erdan is a twili who is a member of their royal guard. He's also married to a member of the royal family– Naal. This is not a coincidence. Naal's not strictly important in the grand scheme of things, but it is important to have heirs and spares in case of shit going awry, so he, a notably very gay man, was betrothed to a trans man, who could bear him a child but still... erm... satisfy him. (Because if you can't get it up, there's not much going to happen.)
Well, Naal is also quite the anxious individual who had a very quick escape plan in place when Zant began his bloody, Ganon-fueled revolution. He was able to squirrel himself and his husband away to some relatively safe part of the realm, and decided not to try to challenge Zant for the throne, knowing damn well the limits of his power and Erdan's, and figuring that not attracting attention was the best way to survive for now.
Naal is also a magically sensitive individual, skilled even among the Twili. It's not hard for him to determine when the Mirror of Twilight opens a rift between the light and twilight realms. He quickly takes any and all items (including magical artifacts) he thinks could be remotely useful to the hero, and proceeds to man a shop whose owner was turned into a shadow beast in order to cheaply sell these to the hero and improve his odds against Zant.
After Link heads into the Palace of Twilight (main) with the Light Sword, Naal and Erdan use their last magic artifact and dip. Naal's more than a little frightened of Zant, and very pragmatic; he doesn't want to be turned into a beast or killed, so he and Erdan leave the twilight realm. Sounds suicidal... without a pair of magic earrings that allow one or two wearers to survive in the light. It's their final insurance policy in case the hero and Midna still fail to defeat Zant.
They didn't count on Midna destroying the mirror of twilight and effectively stranding them. Naal and Erdan couldn't have known the danger that the mirror was.
So, fuck it, they decide. Might as well make the best of it. This world is beautiful. They've never seen the sun until then and it's incredible. Time to start something new.

I think more historical fantasies and alt histories that have gay marriage be allowed should mess around with the societal implications of this. If your aristocracy allows gay marriage, why? As a release valve for inheritance problems, like monasticism was in parts of medieval Europe? As a way of removing your failchild from the line of succession by legally binding them to the failchild of your political ally, ensuring any offspring they both have will be illegitimate? How about a society where the lower classes are allowed to be gay but the nobility aren’t? Idk there’s just a lot of options that are more interesting than “homophobia just doesn’t real”
