STOP THE KOSA BILL ASAP.

he kosa bill (kids online safety act) is a bill that will ban ao3, wattpad, tiktok, and other websites. additionally all your previous browser history will be sent to your parents and basically your parents can monitor everything. the bill also will prevent searching up topics on listed platforms, such as eating disorders, racial discrimination, and gender discrimination online. the bill hasn’t been approved yet because of the constitution (freedom of speech line) n its actually been a plan since 2021. the way you can stop this bill from happening is by contacting your local senators/representatives to NOT approve of this bill. there’s a huge chance that this bill will not be approved due to freedom of speech but if it gets approved good luck bc we’re all screwed. i read what the kosa bill is on the congress website, and basically if a site thinks you are a minor, whatever you searched up/watched will be forwarded to your parents. this is the ‘parental notification’ and ‘safeguard’ section btw!! not only that but numerous platforms will be held responsible for “addiction-like” behavior, which isn’t fair. attorneys will also decide what type of content is “appropriate” and many states have already limited education on gender, race, and sexuality, discrimination. this wont allow kids to research about serious topics which is by far disgusting. many platforms will require you to verify your age and even upload your private data online, which is another invasion of privacy. this bill is wrong in SO many ways, as it basically defies privacy. other people have said that people who may be closeted due to homophobic parents are also put at bigger risk because your search history will be available and they can see everything that you browse, and once a year or so this gets “updated”. there’s a good chance that once you’re over 16 this won’t apply to you anymore (a minor is someone 16 or younger) however im sure for majority of us thats a couple of years, and theres a good chance thats not how it will actually go. if anything in this is misleading pls lmk, im planning on reading the entire thing when i come back to provide more info on how we can prevent this, but we’ll see. please contact your senators/representatives or even get an adult to. this bill is absolutely disgusting and while i understand the approach, its going at lengths that are too far. its to prevent the grooming of children yet it will probably cause things far worse than that. please do your best to ensure this doesn’t happen.

omg if this passed we are so screwed,, this literally diminishes rights of PRIVACY. this seriously is so bad on so many levels what the actual hell. im probably going to search it up because ITS NECESSARY TO STOP THIS. even if it only applies in the us,, us based sits are literally gonna have to ask you for your PERSONAL INFO. literally nobody's safe anymore my god,, instead of making the earth safer & better we are literally destroying freedom wth.
