I absolutely love the way that every other veteran in this show has history with Sugimoto. Gradually their backstories get peppered in, and every single one of them had like a two sentence interaction with him during the war, and every interaction somehow changed their lives.

Tanigaki found his brother in law from what Sugimoto said.

Tsukishima or Tsurumi would have died if not for Sugimoto giving them the sled.

I hope there are more. I love that he somehow haunts the narrative of so many people and they don’t even realize that that’s who he is
