Oh uh I just did a poll on who's route to do after julian's (muriel won) and I was SHOCKED at how low both portia and lucio got voted for! especially portia! she seems like such an awesome character from what I saw in julian's route

anyway i saw you liked the both of them and i think portia is fricking awesome (not a lucio fan atm but then again I am a julian girlie and currently playing muriels route where he isn't exactly portrayed as a great guy so). I might play portia's route after muriels idk

anyway uh yeah I hope this was fine. I don't send in asks often but I love talking about the arcana so I figured I'd try haha

YES I LOVE PORTIA!!! She’s a really good character without having an insane backstory/abilities. Besides the whole shipwreck thing, she’s pretty normal and is just curious about wtf is going on, which is relatable! She’s also just well-rounded and realistically flawed. I think out of all the LI’s she’s the easiest to relate to because she works a fairly mundane job and is dreaming of something exciting to happen lol.

Also her route was FIRE ppl hate on it because it was so different from the other routes but the world building and twists were so good. ALSO VALDEMAR LORE!!!!

And yes, I do love Lucio as well! I’ve always loved villain characters and learning their psychology. I won’t spoil his route for you but based on the snippets we get of his past, it seems like he was born in the wrong place at the wrong time. Unfortunate, but doesn’t excuse his actions. (I love flawed characters ughhhh)

Also the coolest theory on Lucio I’ve heard is that each route portrays him through how the LI sees him (which is why he’s literally the Devil in Muriel’s route and just annoying in Julian’s) which is super cool! So when you get around to playing the other routes, keep that in mind and see how that LI might perceive Lucio!

Anyways TLDR I love Portia and Lucio ❤️

In all honesty, everything in this video is completely valid and I would recommend watching it, even if you're a Lucio simp like me.

Adding onto this because there’s more religious symbolism in the Arcana too (specifically Abrahamic religions):

Mercedes is named after Mother Mary (Mercedes= mercies, Mary is sometimes called ‘lady of mercies’)

Melchior is named after one of the Kings who gifted baby Jesus

Lucio could be derived from the name ‘Lucifer’ (and he’s associated with the Devil)

Nadia’s patron arcana The High Priestess is like The Hierophant—she’s a papess (female pope)

A LOT of the animal symbolism is also similar to those in religion (goats being associated with the Devil, sheep being associated with Jesus/purity [the hierophant])

The Four Horsemen symbolism in the courtiers

Muriel is the name of an archangel

Lucio’s backstory is roughly similar to Lucifer’s, being rejected/banished by his parent

Also, the Hierophant is holding a triple cross, which is the emblem of the Pope. His realm is also basically a huge church/place of worship (his realm has a HUGE stained glass depiction of him)

So yeah I go crazy over the religious symbolism 👍

personal headcanon that the titles of the courtiers were assigned at random by lucio because they 'sounded cool'

by the actual definition of their titles as they were used in ancient rome, valdemar and volta manage finances, valerius has joint rule of vesuvia, vulgora is a priest, and vlastomil is the commander of an army... hm. interesting, but certainly not accurate!

i wholeheartedly believe that lucio just picked a handful of his favorite ancient roman titles and assigned them to the courtiers with no actual regard for what they meant because he liked the way they sounded and he thought it made him seem like a more powerful ruler.
