So much of Life is paying homage to Mahiru.

Of course, it’s been pointed out that Yuno’s appearance after cutting her hair resembles Mahiru. But the song structure itself seems to be inherited from “I Love You”, on top of ending by addressing Mahiru directly. The length of the video is 3:03, which adds up to 6.

Even the video’s narrative — with her younger self being shown as unresponsive for the closing moments, and her current self (who looks like Mahiru and is wearing a pregnancy belt) grieving over her — seems to be Yuno calling out to her, in a way. Mahiru wanted children. It is Yuno saying, “Mahiru, you should have lived and been the mother that I wasn’t. I should have died.”
