#DisabledIAM - Name: Shannon Von Feldt - Location: Lincoln, Nebraska - Who represents disability? Anyone who's daily life is impacted by a debilitating condition - What do you want people to know about disability? It changes your whole life, overnight. Some of us wake up and never get better. The fatigue alone that some experience is just caused by thinking, showers, or something as simple as getting dressed. and it's never better with sleep. Every day, every second can change dramatically for us. I prefer the term "Differently Abled". Not ALL disabilities are visable. - How can #DisabledIAm help get your message out? I want people to know that term "disability" is a wide range of people that are in your community every day. That person could be your cashier or waitress. Be kind. Ask how you can help. via @uicdhd @countingonchicago @helenrottier #CountingOnChicago #YoSoyContado #IAmCounted #Census2020 #2020Census An accurate Census is vital to the disability community and indeed, every American resident. While the Census does not ask for your disability status, the count is used to allocate resources to states for education, employment, housing, and healthcare which impacts resources for people with disabilities. It's time for you to take the 2020 Census. If you lived in Campus Housing in Spring 2020, you were already counted in the 2020 Census. If you are living with other people, including parents, family members, partners, or roommates, only one of you needs to complete the Census for all members of your household. You can take the Census online at my2020census.gov until September 30. If you have questions or concerns about completing the Census, you can contact Helen Rottier at [email protected]. Image description: a graphic with blue and red off-center squares with text reading "Did you know the Census impacts resources for the disability community?" and "Take the Census online today!" There is an image of a clipboard and at the bottom of the graphic are logos for UIC Disability and Human Development, the 2020 United States Census, and the Counting on Chicago Coalition. https://www.instagram.com/p/CEkOBjCJRCX/?igshid=r4426amlnryu

Name: Jay aka Baby Prince Pronouns: He/ him/ his Location: Chicago, Illinois Who represents Disability? The advocates, underdogs and thundercats of the world. Black and brown folks in the States and throughout the world diaspora, poor workers, senior citizens of color, my aunties and uncles, and my brothers and sista soldiers that seek visibility, love, support and dignity within their multiple communities. What do want people to know about disability? Disability will transform people's lives in mysterious ways. Don't be afraid of IT. It's just a different human outlook on life's struggles. Disability is a key part of my messy yet beautiful whole self. I just want to be open to love. As a complex community, we are worthy of our uniqueness, of true love(s) and justice, and for that we will not apologize. How can #DisabledIAm help get your message out? Just by showing/ exposing me as I am: a perfectly imperfect blender of a man. https://www.instagram.com/p/CD33arkp_LC/?igshid=vqwz3kzh3ofh

#DisabledIAm Name: Justin Cooper (@mrcooper82) Location: Chicago, IL Who represents Disability? People with Disabilities represent various groups and backgrounds who show their Disability Pride through taking actions that further the Disability Rights Movement, fighting for the rights of our Disabled brothers and sisters, fighting to improve accessibility needs, and through various art platforms. What do want people to know about disability? People with Disabilities are a marginalized group of people whose issues are constantly looked at as being insignificant or unimportant. It's why we're constantly fighting for our affordable accessible housing, accessibility, public transportation, freeing our people from nursing homes, fighting for our rights and issues to be heard, and to keep laws and systems in place that previous generations of Disabled people fought for. We are fighters and as long as there is injustice amongst our people we will be there to kick ass! How can #DisabledIAm help get your message out? By continuing to share stories of Disabled folks. #DisabledIAm is a movement that will continue to get bigger and showcase our people in their everyday lives, sharing their thoughts and emotions, living freely and taking pride in who they are. https://www.instagram.com/p/CD310YmpTHR/?igshid=13xnarct0zhix
