Compared to Veris, Gerel was tall, lean and surprisingly dexterous. Trading protection of heavy, plated armor for a light, revealing (and honestly, slightly distracting) attire seemed to do Au Ra more good than harm. He nimbly circled around her, dodging her attacks without much of an effort before loosening his coiled chains at her blade. She felt metal grind agains metal, as the chain tightened its grip around her blade...

...Xaela offered her a final, triumphant smile before pulling the chain with one, swift motion, sending her greatsword flying-...

This. RP community is few and scarce as is compared to previous years and then, someone interested in your (our!) hobby is treated like this?

No.

Being lore compliant is ok. Being a lore jerk is not. If the new player wants to try out RP, learn and take part in the hobby we came to love-... why would you aim to shun them?

RP, Elitism & Lore

I’m really fucking sick of it.  The free company I run lost a fantastic person who is incredibly new to rp. Someone who is trying very hard to learn. They write very well; but don’t entirely understand the concept but it’s something we have been working with them on. The person has been writing for a very long time but found out that RP exists and wanted to learn more. So they joined Mateus.  I spoke with them at length and allowed them to join the FC. They had been learning so much and was working hard to create a character that was lore compliant.  Unfortunately they joined one of the larger Mateus discord communities and tried to share their backstory for feedback. In doing so brought the Wrath of Khan upon them. A moderator and others ridiculed and bullied the player so much that they no longer want to be involved with roleplay on FFXIV.  So thank you, for chasing away a new person to this community, Whatever mod this was in this Mateus discord should seriously be stripped of their position. Unfortunately, I don’t have the name as the player in question said they just quickly left and was very upset. Thank you for RUINING something over “but muh lore says u can’t have a miqo’te with a non-tribal name” and then constantly HARASS them. How fucking dare you treat someone who is new to rp in such a manner.  I’m so beyond pissed right now. The amount of work we had done with this person, teaching them how to RP, what lore is, etc. is now in the trash. Whoever did this has now entirely pushed this person away from wanting to involve with the community.  Seriously; there are ways to constructively help people. Harassment of someone not understanding lore is NOT one of them. Grow the fuck up. This is a game, it’s pretendy-fun-times. You don’t have a right to treat someone so poorly that you push someone completely away from roleplay.  THIS is how we get trolls. THIS is why people think RPers are elitist.

October 29th is patch release day.  It seems they plan to open up land for FC and relocaters that day.  

I’m giving away gold up to 10 million to any FC that meets these criteria.

Has an FC with at least 4 active people. 

Currently does not have housing.

Is seeking to purchase a small or medium house. 

Is on the Crystal data center. 

Plans to use the housing and decorate it to whatever their theme is.

Is not going to sell off their FC in the near future.

I set these criteria only because I don’t want yet more housing sitting there undecorated and abandoned.  Shit happens obviously, so it’s an honor system.  I’m not going to totes keep tabs on you and your FC.

For FCs seeking small housing, I’ll give you 5 million to cover the house and purchase a permit and have some left over for furniture or opening the workshop.  For FCs wanting to try for a medium house, I’ll give you 10 million toward its purchase.  (Leaving you to make up the 6-10 million difference.  If you don’t think you can make this in time, go for a small house. You can always work toward saving up for a medium or large in the meanwhile.)

I do not want or expect anything in return.  :) You don’t have to follow or friend me.  Just take the money, go find the house of your FC’s dreams and enjoy it.

I might ask to be tagged on any screenshots you take of your FC house.  That’s about it.

What Valiant’s Trust can offer:

Heavy roleplay environment with the potential for dynamic storytelling both for individual characters and the Free Company as a whole.

Lore-abiding, but not lore-strict, environment. We want people to have fun; bending is encouraged  - breaking is not.

Accommodation of numerous roleplay styles, types and genres - some genres might not instinctively fit with this guild due to it’s fundamentally ‘good-leaning’ concept but this is not a hard and fast rule. If you’d like to join but you’re unsure about how your character might fit get in touch!

Journal 3: Chasing fairy tales

[Many many pages had been torn out, leaving a rather recent entry]

“You know what they say - there are things in heaven and earth which exceed the cognitive ability of many.” Man readjusted his spectacles, sighing. 

I looked at him in confusion. 

And then lifted my gaze at the object before me. 

“Firstly, I believe the quote was different.” I mused, still watching a mote of light sway left and right, in a slow, almost hypnotising manner. “...secondly, is that supposed to... do this?”

The tall Au Ra shrugged before hesitantly - almost begrudgingly - adding: “I could hardly say.” 

We watched the mote of light sway for a few moments longer before its light finally diminished and disappeared before our eyes.

...and then, one after another - the motes of light came to life. 

It took no longer than a moment for the entire area of the swamp to fill with a soft, warm, glowing light. Some superstitious souls referred to these motes of light as ‘wisps’. Some legends thought of them as aether of deceased in this very small, now reforged into a new being entirely, similar to fae - and just as mischievously guiding the new wanderers to their death. 

Gerel was always the boring one:

“ Swamp gases. Don’t breathe them in... lest you start believing in ghosts as well.”

I rolled my eyes. 

“...I think you forget the purpose of why we are here-... we are literally following a -legend-.”

Gerel chuckled. His voice was light and melodic - contrasting painfully with his usual, patronising tone. 

“...a fairy tale, dear.” he corrected me “...a fairy tale.” he added, soon getting a hold of a long, silk handkerchief from one of his many pockets and wrapping it around his nose and mouth “...don’t tell me you expected anything else? After all, we are chasing -fairies-” he added, before making his way into the swamp, surrounded by a dimmed light of wisps.
