A wizard has become trapped at the bottom of their own dungeon, and magically summons the party to free them

Today is a good day, I feel, to cry about the meta implications of Caleb using the wand Calianna sent him as the centerpiece of the components for the Tower.  Because she sent it to him with a message of, basically, “you’re better than you think you are” and “don’t let your regrets drag you down,” and he took it and he built a home around it, and he made a place where everyone he loves can be safe and happy, at least for a few hours at a time.

But at the same time, he’s got his nightmare horrorshow rooms at the top, with the password of “gone but not forgotten,” because he still can’t let go of that pain, and he can’t let his friends see it or share the weight of it.  And you know, Caleb likes to organize and reorder his spell components, it’s a thing Liam’s described him doing during downtime over and over again, and I think a lot of that is just that it’s comforting to have a routine and to know you’re prepared and whatnot, but it’s also - he’s not ready to actually use a wand, yet.  He’s not ready to empty his pockets.

I’m really loving the contrast between the romances in c1 vs c2. There was certainly plenty of awkwardness to be had in c1, especially with Keyleth, but really the main romantic storylines were played out with a good deal of solemnity (Pike and Scanlan being something of an exception, but “awkward” is still not the best descriptor there). Thematically speaking many of the same issues are at play for the romances that are unfolding among the m9 (bearing in mind that I’m currently on ep 114), but the confusion and uncertainty is leading to a lot more external awkwardness and in-group gossiping than the quieter and more internal grappling that characterized a lot of VM’s pining. (of course, vm did speak to one another about their feelings and romantic interests to at least some extent, but they generally had more of an earnestly confessional air about them, rather than the casual ribbing and egging on among the m9, which then often leads to really honest outpourings of feeling.) I don’t really have a point here (at least not yet, maybe I will eventually), it’s just a really fun contrast to see playing out!

Okay, I’m gonna talk about my Jester Theory and every shipper in the fandom on every side is gonna hate it but whatever, I think it holds up and I find it both in-character and very intriguing.

Theory: Jester is on some level aware of the fact that half her party is or has been seriously crushing on her, whether or not she’s choosing to admit it to herself.  Jester has been actively throwing up road blocks to all possible suitors, again, whether or not she’s choosing to admit it to herself.  She has absolutely not said any of this out loud, because those would be hard conversations that would hurt her friends and she loves her friends and oh god she could never, and maybe if they just get over their crushes on their own she won’t ever have to!
