Just wandering here after years of following your vld fics, wabted to tell you i love and appreciate your works so much. When the itch to read vld fic came ny first tought went to a particular fic (that shall remain unnamed) and then, right after your name popped in my head like a colorful and neon sign. To say that i re-read most of your fics is to put it mildly.

Also, i so love when you write the MFE pilots. I love their individual dynamics with keith. They make me smile. So i clearly screamed in delight when i saw the MFE + keith as vld pilots AU you have floating in here. Its been years (since 2019, maybe 2020 i believe?) Since i drew anything for vld, but now, because of you, i so wanna draw this MFE + keith as vld pilots AU (no promises, but i will try)

The way you write james and jeith is just delightful. I need more MFE + keith content in my life.

Thanks so much! <3 Always glad to hear it. It's fun to write the MFE pilots since they didn't ultimately get a lot of screentime in the actual show. They were all top ranking cadets together, so it's fun to think about how they might have gotten along (or didn't) with Keith.

About the AO3 "No Guest Comments for a while" warning

If you're not following any of AO3's social media accounts you might be in the dark as to what kind of "spam comments" have engendered this banner at the top of the site:

These spam comments have been posted about a great deal on the AO3 subreddit for the past couple of days. Initially they comprised a bunch of guest (logged out users) bot comments that insulted authors by suggesting they were using AI and not writing their own fics. Some examples, from the subreddit:

But it then escalated to outright graphic porn images and gifs being posted in comments, again by logged out 'Guest' accounts. Obviously, I'm not going to give examples of those, but between these two bot infestations, AO3 has clearly decided to act and has temporarily closed the ability to post comments for users who are not logged in with an AO3 account.

Unfortunately, this means that genuine readers who don't have an AO3 account won't be able to leave comments on fics that they enjoy.

If you are a genuine reader who doesn't yet have an AO3 account, I strongly suggest getting yourself on the waiting list for one. More and more AO3 authors are now locking their fics down to registered users only - either due to these bot comments or concerns about AI scraping their work - which means you're probably missing out on a lot of great stuff.

Hopefully guest commenting will be enabled again at some point soon, but I suggest not waiting until then. Get yourself on that list.

Wait times are going to be longer than usual at the moment, due to the current Wattpad purge [info on Fanlore | Wattpad subreddit thread], but if you're in line, then your invite will come through eventually.

There's not much going on in West Garrison.

It's a sleepy little town, that time has kind of passed by. It used to be more prosperous, before, ironically, the Galaxy Garrison was built nearby after the end of the war. They thought it would bring more prosperity to the area, but it just did the opposite. It'll probably take another half century or so for it to turn into a ghost town, but it's clear the population has been dwindling. Most folks have moved further west, towards Plaht City.

Heath Kogane has no intention of leaving.

He was born and raised here, in the shadow of the Galaxy Garrison. He took a job as a firefighter in Plaht City, but he has no intention of moving there. He's got too many memories in that house out in the desert, of that town that wasn't quite so sleepy yet when he was young. He wants to raise his kid here, too.

There's almost no kids Keith's age in West Garrison. The local elementary school is scraping by, but everyone figures Keith's class will be the last before it shuts for good, and everyone has to bus to Plaht City. Same with the middle and high school- hell, they don't even need a full staff anymore. They make do with a skeleton crew.

When he's not working, Heath's always in town, helping fix something for the old folks that live there. Keith always tags along, following in his footsteps. He's an odd, disquieting child in many ways, who smiles more like he's baring his teeth in challenge. No one knows who his ma is. Heath's mum on the subject. There's some rumors that say there were some strange lights out in the desert by Heath's place years ago, but no one knows who started them.

When Keith is eight years old, a fire rips down the main street of West Garrison overnight. It's devastating. The fire department couldn't make it over from Plaht City in time. The town is all but wiped off the map in one night. For all that, there aren't as many casualties as expected- only a small handful of souls.

One of them is Heath Kogane. He was off duty that night. His quick actions are credited with saving countless lives... but costing his own.

West Garrison limps on for awhile after.

It doesn't survive Sendak's invasion.
