As a Servant, fatigue outside of the battlefield was a worry of the past, but the allure of the hot springs had drawn in the king for its reputation, and the limited-time sweets on offer. Standing by the pool intended to serve as a footbath, populated by the miniature fish swarming those who dip their toes inside, she perceived there to be little space for more than a trio at a time. But the yuzu cheesecake on her plate could hardly wait. Another hand clutched the towel to her chest, ensuring she remain safely wrapped and avoid embarrassment for they both. For such a luxurious establishment, she daren’t allow even the smallest cloud to darken the ideal indulgence.
Tumblr media
“Are you awaiting company, or may I join? The scenery from this area is one not to pass up, but there appears to be a lack of space with these baths along this front”..
@divine-crossroads
Of course, he knew of the healing properties hot springs held. Even beyond whichever one had been enchanted by the island to...actually heal physical injuries.
Given Yotsutsuji had been on trips with both The Dirty Dawg members and his own friends to various different hot springs before, it’d be nice to see what the ones here were like...and additionally, give his legs a bit of a rest in the hot water. The citrus blossoms in the water and the small plate of sliced fruits he had grabbed for himself just made the whole ordeal so much better.
...and, hey, maybe company wouldn’t be all that bad either! Besides, it’d be rude to hoard this whole space to himself...especially if there was a lack of space.
Tumblr media
“Oh, no, I’m here on my own. You’re more than welcome to join me, if it really doesn’t bother you!”

Byron did not dance, at least not for pleasure, generally. If he had a partner who liked to he would indulge, but it was not a past time he much enjoyed. He could dance, though, if needed.
Instead he lingered at the edges of the ballroom, nabbing snacks as he watched.
The man he targeted now seemed less a man and more an older teen, he assessed. Absolutely unremarkable, the perfect scapegoat for any scheme he might devise over the night.
He walked swiftly in the teen’s direction, an appetizer in one hand, cane in the other.
Tumblr media
“Hello! Enjoying yourself? This is quite the bash, even with potential pixie pranks abound, wouldn’t you agree? Have you tried the ssshrimp tartlets? They’re just divine.”
A real fairy soiree.
It felt like something out of a movie Jakurai would play for him after school when he was younger; something fun for the two of them to watch together on a Friday evening. It was...magical. That was really the only word he could think of using for it, even if it seemed obvious.
Maybe that was just due to him being from a...pretty standard iteration of Tokyo.
At least the people were friendly enough, and Yotsutsuji didn’t have to stand around awkwardly for a long time until he managed to approach someone on his own.
Tumblr media
“It’s been interesting enough to just observe...I’m not really sure where a good spot to jump in is.” Especially not with the fact that, given the condition of his legs, he probably couldn’t dance for all that long. “The pranks seem harmless enough, but I don’t know anyone here well enough to say otherwise.”
“Oh! Are they, though? I haven’t eaten anything here yet, so I guess I’ll have to give it a try. It seemed like you’ve been enjoying the appetizers well enough.”

[ 🍞 ] — “Huh… well that’s not normal..” Mizi had been in and out of this dimension for a number of years now; so he’d seen all manner of events and monsters. However, he’d never seen a castle appear from the Spirale hole before. That was new; and concerning. Though he wasn’t panicked, he sought out the friendliest-looking nearby stranger and tapped him on the shoulder;
Once his attention had been grabbed, Mizi pointed towards the castle itself. “Excuse me, do you know what’s going on…with that? There’s no weird monsters popping out of there, right?” He sounded more exhausted than concerned.
The sudden appearance of the castle drew him in.
I mean, when did a castle appear out of thin air? Things just got stranger and stranger the longer he found himself here...and quite honestly, he knew he had to be prepared at this point. Thankfully, he had purchased a weapon for himself, the staff with the gems embedded in it tucked neatly against his bag.
By the way this person was questioning things...maybe he’d actually need to use it.
“I’m not sure, honestly, but after the art gallery that happened the other month...I wouldn’t be surprised if something did pop out of it.”
Tumblr media
“I think they mentioned something about a soiree hosted by the Fairy Queen here?”

He’d just planned on hanging around the Cotes Ward on his own. He hadn’t planned on meeting up with anyone, and certainly had not planned on seeing Jakurai’s son.
( Something, something about never outrunning your past )
Tumblr media
He schooled his expression into one of excitement as he bounded up to  Yotsutsuji. “Hi hi ~! Are you here for the festival too?”
A festival, huh?
Yotsutsuji couldn’t remember the last time he had been to one ( was it with his birth parents, maybe-? ) but now was the best time to go about it, right? He had the free time he didn’t have before, and even if he had to go alone, it’d still be fun!
...if he could just decide which one he actually wanted to go to.
But it turned out, he’d have someone to help him out with that choice.
Tumblr media
“Oh, Ramuda! Yes, I was thinking it’d be fun to participate but...I haven’t been able to decide which one I wanted to go to. Maybe the candle lighting or the tea party...? Ah, but were you here to do the same thing? We could go to one together!”

mightiestbutler:
❝Splendid! I shall forthwith prepare your-❞ Jarvis suddenly cuts himself off. The young lad’s comment made him realize how silly he must be. Wearing a full suit when it was like, 200 degrees Fahrenheit outside? He was a full-time butler!  When would he have time for leisure-wear? His rare, but well-deserved, breaks perhaps. The Avengers actually force him to have a break every once and a while. If it weren’t for that, Jarvis wonders if all of his time would be dedicated to them. He had spent most of his adult life around super heroes. He was well-trusted, to the point of Captain America ( Steve Rogers ) claiming that he, Jarvis, is as much an Avenger as the rest of the team. Professionalism was all he ever knew.
Jarvis chuckles a bit, a surprising gesture coming from the man who is usually tightly wound and unflappable. He actually manages to crack a small smile.  ❝Oh, heh, I suppose it is worse for me. I was just so focused on you, young man, that I completely forgot about myself.  ‘Tis the price one pays for a professional appearance…❞
The hints about Jarvis’ occupation are growing pretty apparent.
Tumblr media
The older man gives Yotsutsuji a knowing look, that same small smile upon his lips. ❝I am a butler, young lad. For better or for worse, I have a strict dress code that I must adhere to.❞ The jovial moment was gone in a flash, and Jarvis was back to business. ❝Now, I forgot to ask… What would you care for? Lemonade? Water? Tea? Those… sodas the youth seem to enjoy?❞
“We’ll just have a drink together, then.”
Tumblr media
That was probably the best way around things, right? Maybe it was in his nature to worry as a nurse, just as it was Jarvis’ to worry as a butler. Plus, if he had a uniform to follow and that’s what he wanted to do, then a middle grounds solution was the best. He had found himself working with...a lot of patients needed a middle ground solution.
Not that he needed to treat this like a patient-nurse interaction. Certainly not - he hadn’t had to worry about that for awhile, since he and Jakurai returned from the war hospital they were stationed at. Still...worrying just seemed to be in his nature.
“Please don’t worry about it though. I can’t imagine how difficult butler work must be sometimes - but just based on us talking so far it’s easy to see you really care about your job. Ah, sorry! I’m rambling a bit - just a water is fine by me. That’d be the best way to stay hydrated.”
And it was probably the easiest option, right? He’d hate to cause trouble.

He notices a little too late. OH man, he thought he did really good. Left no opening for the kid in front of him. He thought he finally got him and got him good! BUT look! Look at that! Don’t worry though, Romanus is still having fun. He was never the sore loser type anyway.
Tumblr media
“Oh yeah, absolutely! Thanks for introducing the game to me. You know, this is my first board game? I’m having a lot of fun. Where’dyu get this? From the library?”
“I did, yes! I thought a board game would be a good way to break the ice with some of the people here.”
Tumblr media
“...though it doesn’t actually seem like a lot of people are interested in playing a game they don’t already know. I might have to borrow another one next time.”
That wasn’t to say he wasn’t having fun now though. At least someone was willing to play - and play more than one round! Plus, now that he had a better grip on the rules and strategies himself.

Oh, this was ridiculous. Every time Jarvis thought new lows wouldn’t be stooped to here, he encounters another kid. So, even children were being subjected to this? The heat had already put the older man in a rather grumpy mood to begin with. With perfect stoicism, Jarvis hides his sour mood and turns to address the young man he saw. Was it just him, or was the lad looking… rather upset?
❝Excuse me, young man!❞ He calls out to  Yotsutsuji, hoping to gain the other’s attention.  ❝Pardon my saying so, but are you alright? I happened to notice your expression, and well… I was worried.❞ Jarvis, more often than not, was a silent observer. He tended to notice things that other people might not, like body language or expressions. Normally, he feels like it isn’t his place to address such concerns. But this wasn’t a normal circumstance likely for the both of them to be in.
Tumblr media
Jarvis is unsure what to say for a moment. He wonders what the young man must be thinking. Some old dude stops him and starts to talk about feelings. How weird is that? ❝…Say, would you like a iced coffee? Lemonade? Water? I would offer a hot drink, but it is SWELTERING and I wouldn’t feel right doing that to you.❞ Jarvis himself feels like he’s burning up. Of course he would be wearing a black suit on such a hot day like this. The things he does for professionalism.
Why is Jarvis going so far just for someone he met in passing?. He just feels its the right thing to do. Not to mention, he was used to randomly serving people beverages. He’s a butler, after all.
@divine-crossroads liked for a summer-themed starter.
It was hot out.
Honestly, if he was back home, it’d be the perfect day to drive or take the train out to the beach with his friends, where their company would be enough to distract him from...well, everything. They weren’t here though, and he hadn’t seen Jakurai or Ramuda in a little while, which meant he was on his own.
Certainly it was a little upsetting, but it also meant he could go out and explore and take more notes. Was it hot for a reason, or did this place just have a normal cycle of time like anywhere else? In that case, did it mean time was passing without him? What did the people who just naturally live here do during this kind of weather? Honestly, it was all too confusing to really stop and think about, but it was important to record his observations anyways.
...until he was stopped to think, but he didn’t mind. Yotsutsuji could easily tell he was being polite and checking in, which prompted him to smile a bit sheepishly and rub the back of his neck.
Tumblr media
“Oh, yes! I’m alright, just...looking around on my own, I suppose. I don’t know all too many people here yet.” He answered, taking another moment to look the man over and...
...was he wearing a full suit? In this weather?
“...I appreciate the check in, though. I’d love a cold drink - I think you could probably use one too, even. It must be even worse for you to walk around in this heat!”

His forked tongue is sticking out at the corner of his lip. He’s focused. He doesn’t want to accidentally move his piece to an area where Kannabi would be an instant win. Speaking of, the kid’s won approximately 6 times. Romanus lost count!
Tumblr media
Who would’ve thought this puzzle-esque board game would be a difficult one to play. “Alright. Your turn.” He says once his piece is moved. He leans against his seat with a smirk on his face. THERE’S no way he’d get out of this one!
Honestly, Yotsutsuji was happy he was lucky enough to find people who were interested in board games here. Even if he kept winning, that wasn’t really the point! The point was to have fun with the game, and very rarely could he convince his friends from back home to play with him.
Tumblr media
That was a pretty good move on Romanus’ part...but it did leave an opening if he moved his piece this way and if that area of he board stayed mostly untouched for another turn or two. It was hard to recognize unless you really thought ahead on it.
To someone who really didn’t take the time to observe the board, it would probably look like a useless move.
“Thank you again for playing with me. This game is pretty fascinating, isn’t it?”

“No!” Determined, she puts more pressure on the block of marble. The tool growls more harshly. “It has to be a chainsaw!” she insists. “It just has to be! That’s the only way this whole thing makes sense…!”
She breathes in, deeply and harshly and puts her all into slicing the marble. But for moment, for just an instant, it’s not marble that she’s cutting, but flesh, arteries and veins. There’s a gruesome gurgling that rumbles in her ears, and before she knows it, Carlos’ head thuds to the floo-
She shrieks. Her eyes wide and shifting frantically. Was that another memory from the morphogenetic field…? No… No, she doesn’t think so. It can’t be. It can’t be… She would have known of it when she received that download in back at Dcom… Her mind is playing tricks on her then… An intermingling of a trauma she oftentimes almost feels she can’t reasonably justify having and a perversion of her alternate self’s intentions at the time, most likely.
… Oh, the chainsaw’s still running.
Maybe this really is too dangerous to be worth the effort… Her mind isn’t as calm and clear as it was at the very start. She should… turn it off then. And she does. Once the hungry growl dies down into silence and the teeth of the metal beast stop gnawing, she pulls it out from the large hunk of stone, then slowly lets it drop from one hand. And then the other. It falls to the floor with a loud, heavy thunk!…
Nothing was created here today. The only result of Akane’s efforts is a deep gash wounding the marble, powder bleeding onto the floor from the otherwise immaculate block. Akane’s gaze rests on that gash, the sight before her reminding her once again of past alternate-history events both real and imagined. Her arms are wrapped around herself in a comforting embrace. For a good minute or two, she simply stares, barely able to recognize the marble as what it really is. Quiet sobs getting caught in her throat and legs trembling, she wrestles with herself. But once those short minutes have passed, she says. “D-Don’t… Don’t worry about me.” with a voice that only slightly wavers. Taking a moment to wipe her face with her sleeves, she continues, finally turning to face the witness to the disaster that just occurred with a determination not present either in her voice or in her smile only seconds ago, “Everything’s okay. I grew used to this a long time ago.”
And she has. She’s had to.
Yotsutsuji couldn’t possibly know why it had to be a chainsaw. He didn’t know this woman or her woes - but he could recognize the physical cues he got. The hesitation, the deep breath, the determination in her voice despite it all.
The shriek.
Clearly, the chainsaw was tied to something she didn’t want to remember, that she was trying to face. It wasn’t his place to voice that - but he had seen so many similar things as the conflict from the war still raged on and he dutifully trailed after Jakurai in his scrubs. Whether it be a roll of bandages, a medical stapler, or a scalpel in his hand, he tried to help. Talking, too, watching that same kind of hesitant determination on the faces of people innocent and guilty as gunfire or sounds of explosion encircled the hospital they were in.
The same kind of sensation he felt when he got into cars, still trying to mentally muscle through what had happened to him. Insisting he was fine, that he had to do it because avoiding riding in a car or on a train in a section of Japan’s busiest city was near impossible.
He couldn’t begin to understand what had happened to this woman, nor did he expect to. He wasn’t one to force people to talk where they weren’t ready to - to force them to bring back uncomfortable memories. He knew how that felt, and it wasn’t a good feeling.
Elbow crutches fastened to his arms, trying to learn to walk again after the crash. After losing everything. After the surgery went wrong, and someone else had to step in to save his life. He didn’t like thinking about it - even if he could hardly remember it. Of course he went through therapy both physical and mental after it all, but he was a child then who didn’t quite understand.
Facing it as an adult, or near being an adult, was harder.
Tumblr media
“It’s...okay. To still be bothered by things, even if you’ve gotten used to it. Sorry for stepping in, I was just worried you’d injure yourself like that.” And it seemed like maybe that might have happened, based on her reaction to cutting into the marble.
“...jumping all in at once can be the worst thing to do sometimes, even if you think it will help.”

Perhaps it was a little strange that he was remaining so calm, but rather unfortunately, it wasn’t the first time that he’d woken up in a strange place. In fact, it wasn’t even the second time. In some way, he supposed he was just used to it by now.
What an amusing thing to be used to.
“You pose very good questions. Personally, I think it will all depend. Perhaps time does continue on. But perhaps, when or if we are returned to our worlds, we are still returned to the time we left. What of the world in which we did not return? How will it continue? With our arrival in this world, several new possibilities open up, new worlds created in which we return or do not return.”
“But, you are right. What has happened has happened. The world we are in now is the one important to us, or at least these versions of us. We must deal with the cards we have been dealt.”
He paused, then chuckled. “I do apologize. I seem to have gone on about many complicated things.”
Yotsutsuji couldn’t help but listen. There were a lot of things to think about but most prominently...was Light talking about String Theory? It seemed like that was the most likely case - and it was...something that was possible. With one choice or action made, the other possibilities could have happened in another time. Did happen in another time.
It was fascinating but...terrifying to think about.
There were worlds out there where he just vanished and never returned because of the fact he was here. That that would could be this one, and he just didn’t know it yet. Would Jakurai be okay without him...? Would he search and search with no possibility of finding an answer? What of Ramuda? With how odd he had been acting lately, would he even worry?
Best to not think about that now.
Tumblr media
“No, no, it’s alright! I actually find things like that interesting to discuss. There’s obviously a lot of concern that comes with it, but...at least one of them is true. Multiple of them, actually, but...only one for us. This version of us, like you said. It’s always a little fun to think about it outside of games and movies.”

morethanzero:
The last time Akane held a chainsaw in her hands, she and Carlos had just managed to escape the pantry they were locked in at the Dcom facility. They opened the door to the freezer and… were greeted by Junpei’s frozen, dismembered head laying on a shelf, eyes wide and unseeing, frost layered atop pale blue skin and dark hair.
If she lets it happen (and she tries not to), she can still recall the terrifying realization she experienced with perfect acuity… No, “terrified” doesn’t even begin to describe how she felt. If you were to ask her then how she would describe the feeling, she would say it had felt like she was falling off the moon, like you’re floating, helplessly floating. Confused. Nothing is real but the darkness that surrounds you. But as time passes, you’d find yourself pulled in by the Earth’s gravity, and you’re still floating. Floating… And then you’re falling. You’re falling, burning, bewildered and screaming and there’s nothing you can do about it as you disintegrate into nothing.
But then those ashes reignited into a rage and sorrow that blazed like none other.
Those pieces of his corpse, strewn about the pantry, irreverently turned into parts of puzzles… Carlos had played rock-paper-scissors with one of Junpei’s hands, for God’s sake! Cold! Dead! Devoid of life…! How could she not feel terminally ill deep within her soul the very fraction of a second she knew?
The rest is something of a blur. She remembers taking a chainsaw that just so happened to oh so conveniently be there and the low rumble that emanated from it when she revved it up. She remembers the intense growl and the harsh vibrations that gnawed at her hands as it tore through the hardwood, finished with polyurethane, the same way her grief at the sight she had just witnessed tore through her heart. Afterwards, numb to the world, she finally allowed herself time to mourn, to try to make sense of this tragedy… In her efforts to do so, however, Carlos became an unfortunate scapegoat in her desperate mind.
The ultimate result was… undesirable. It went two different ways, both bloody and violent and adding to the body count.
… But that was all in a different timeline, one she is only connected to through the morphogenetic field, the memories stored within it so perfectly downloaded into her that she might as well have actually been there when it happened. Still, she doesn’t want to keep thinking about it. Every time she does, her heart thuds against the inside of her ribcage like it wants to escape the pain those fourth-dimensional memories incite. Even now, her cheeks are wet.
The whole point of this—the decision to make something with a chainsaw of all things—was an effort to work through some of that lingering trauma, to want to at least try to associate this machine with creation instead of destruction.
And so, with a deep, shaking intake of breath, she revs the chainsaw up, staring down the block of marble before her as though about to engage in a duel with her own mental and emotional baggage, and despite being relatively sure that you’re typically not supposed to use a regular chainsaw to carve into stone. If she remembers correctly, however, marble is relatively soft, about a 4 on the Mohs scale…
She begins anyway, despite her misgivings. The teeth bite into the marble and, again, she feels the vibrations gnaw into her hands—the skin, muscles, and bones. She’s not particularly convinced that she has the proper strength to actually carve the material in any meaningful way, but that’s not going to stop her from trying anyway.
“Not really!!!” she finally shouts in response to the clearly concerned bystander, loud enough to be heard over the roar of the dangerous implement she’s holding, while keeping her attention on the object in front of her, “But what better way to learn something like this than to dive into it head first?!”
That’s a terrible idea!
He could have cried that, attempt to get this woman to halt her attempts to create with such a dangerous weapon. He had seen all too clearly before what became of men and women who used weapons they knew not how to use. Bullet holes in arms and legs, if they were lucky. The aftermath of bodies in explosions, people grabbing onto weaponry of soldiers mowing them down in an attempt to save their life, only to end multiple.
Innocent people were always the ones who made their way into war hospitals, and he knew both the bodily and mental harm that could do to someone.
He was one of them, once, after all.
Even if it was not an attempt to save his life - an accident, he had to say to himself, even though there was not a chance in the world that it was his fault they got stuck in that crash. An accident, he had to say, to rationalize to himself that it was okay he was the only one who survived - he still suffered an attack on the innocent.
This woman did not seem to be one who would harm others with the chainsaw - she was creating art, after all - but he knew the dangers that could come of this regardless. The way he stood off to the side, anxiously watching her hack away at the marble should attest to that enough.
But still, Yotsutsuji needed to say something. Something, that could help this woman not bring harm to herself or to others in creating her masterpiece, whatever that turned out to be.
Tumblr media
“I-I wouldn’t say that’s the smartest idea, still-! You could injure yourself that way - maybe a chisel would be better?”

@morethanzero // event starter !
An art gallery seemed almost too normal to introduce into a city like this.
But normal was almost abnormal at this point. Maybe he’d have somewhat of a chance to enjoy the exhibits but...he couldn’t help himself - taking notes was still a natural thing to do in such an unexpected situation. Something could be off about the paintings or the sculptures or...
...or maybe it was just a normal museum. With magical tools that could let you create anything. But a normal museum, none the less. Ballrooms, painting areas, doll crafting zones...a hedge and sculpture garden. That one honestly seemed the most interesting, so it was that way he went.
Though what he didn’t expect was someone who looked like they didn’t know how to use a chainsaw attempting to go at a block of marble.
Tumblr media
“E-Excuse me-! Are you sure you know how to use that...?!”
