Being a new Caryl shipper, and a pretty new participant in TWD fandom on social media, I’m aware there’s a decade’s worth of history between shippers and fans I wasn’t around for. Things get heated, to put it mildly.

But there’s a question I want to ask fans who mock Melissa McBride’s age—and don’t try to tell me you only mean it for her character; the basic logic shouldn’t be beyond you. I’ve noticed an uptick in that kind of thing lately—-“Carol looks like my grandma and it would be disgusting for her to get with Daryl”was the most recent comment, earlier today.

My question is coming, but as someone whose parents were considerably older than most—actually the age of other kids’ grandparents—I find that fucking offensive. Basically you’re letting it be known that older people deserve to be trashed, it’s a joke, and no one should care. Why is that? Are you afraid of aging yourself? Or just afraid to admit that the man you think Carol is too old for is going to be 51 soon (3 years or 36 MONTHS younger, lol), has a grizzled gray-white beard, a worn face, and would have the same silver/gray hair as Carol if he weren’t hitting the Clairol every couple of weeks? And no I don’t mean that as a negative. Imo Norman is only getting sexier with age.

What I want to ask is this. Y’all go on about being feminists and respecting/loving women. So at what age does a woman become undeserving & unworthy of that respect? According to what I’m seeing from some of you, the cutoff seems to be right around Melissa’s age.

Omg HOW SOFT has daryl been this season for Carol?? HOW SOFT? I could talk about it forever. I've literally never heard his voice be this soft before or seen him control his emotions so well so he can be there for someone?? All for her. OFFERING TO TAKE LYDIA AWAY FOR CAROL BUT HIS WHISPER THAT HE DOESN'T WANT TO GO & ASKING CAROL WHAT SHE WANTS HIM TO DO?? SO SOFT. HAVING LIGHT HEARTED SWEET BANTER?? "IT'S NOT LIKE THAT" "WHY NOT?" (CUZ I LOVE U)!!! WE STAN.

lissen!!!! daryl is the walking personification of sawftness. he’s been so cushiony, velvety, and silky towards her. if you look up sawft in the dictionary, his crossbow slinging, squirrel eating ass is right there with a bouquet of Cherokee roses. asking her what she wants to do and then going to do it!!!! seeing that he pissed her off and then immediately apologizing for pissing her off. when he immediately noticed she didn’t come down for dinner, so, he takes her dinner and adds that extra touch of sawftness by adding a flower and waiting a few seconds to see if she’ll come to the door. SAWFT! the banter????? so lighthearted, so sweet, so sugary. like when she’s teasing him about the ‘best friend’ thing and he’s all “forget it.” SAWFT!! the entire acorn scene is literal cotton candy. first, he keeps the little good luck acorn she finds and gives to him. then his super honest behind let’s her know that “it’s not like that...not at all” with the new girl and when carol ask why, he stares at her intently and just sighs deeply. when they’re out looking for lydia, and he starts to drag her for her recklessness and the moment he realizes she’s not okay, he pulls her in for a hug, strokes her hair, tells her alpha isn’t worth it, wipes her tears, massages her shoulders, and sawftly asks is she good. then he proceeds to study her face sawftly for some noticeably lingering seconds before stroking her face one more time. of course, we STAN!!!! nothing and no one loves carol more than this sawft ass bitch! we stan a captain. periodt.

If Ya'll wanna spend 2 months freaking out about nothing, that's cool. I'll just be over here enjoying the fact that this is basically a whole season of Daryl and Carol interacting.

Daryl’s really out here with his heart on his sleeve. She needs to hear these things and he’s ready and willing to say them. He’s the only person she lets past that wall and I think a part of her was begging for him to break through a couple bricks. Can you imagine her letting anyone else that close? I can’t.
