Cries in they don't look ANYTHING like each other style-wise AT ALL which was a MAJOR goal of this commission, to do 3 more of the dogs in the same style to display together!!

I decided to Very carefully try and undo my overworking on this piece, just erasing excess paint with carefully applied water, and then adding in some brighter bits of sepia and goldenrod to just make it not so dull and dark and flat looking.
So far I think it looks a lot better, still some work to do, but stopped here for today.

Isn't this face so endearingly squishable? This is my favorite of the dog portraits so far and makes me want to redo the other one otl
#pet portraits#wip#dogs#paintings#watercolors#dksartz#so i have two styles when working with watercolors. one is Mimic Acrylic. the other is Classic Watercolor tm#if i use watercolors as if theyre acrylics (more or less - theyre very different but if i push them i can do it) i get something more like#the portrait of bandit. meanwhile this is what it looks like when i let watercolors be what they are#the problem with the one of bandit is i thought i HAD to push the paints to layer and be dark bc the dog is black. but so is astro!#and astro here - you can TELL this is a black and white dog. even tho hes blue-purpley#and while the request was for bandit to be more browns (and needed to add blues) i didnt REALLY need to push the paint that hard#i could have left it LIGHT AND AIRY and still communicated black dog with curly fur#and brown tints on his muzzle etc#but ... idk what to do with the existing painting of bandit if i start over on a new panel

Plus the previous painting I have to more or less match the style to:
