Yes this and all of prevs tags
polytrix fandom has thoroughly explored the concepts of pre-established zoemira pursuing rumi and pre-established rumira pursuing zoey but i need people to start tuning into pre-established zoerumi pursuing mira. mira's such a suave lesbian kryptonite heartthrob you know they'd see her in one of her button downs with her dykey walk and not be able to pick themselves up off the floor. and then proceed to launch into a comedy of errors tripping over themselves trying to woo her worrying that mira's too cool for dorks like them meanwhile mira internally is like oh god oh fuck these are the hottest most adorable women i've ever seen I Cannot Fumble This

Nother headcanon for y'all to chew on.
Celine is not actually nearly as much of a hardass as the girls think she is. They'd get into all kinds of crazy silly shenanigans and she'd walk up like :| just stare at them until Rumi "oh no an emotion let's run away now" Ryu just starts doing laps, which the girls immediately go along with bc ??? of course they're gonna have to do laps or something they were definitely breaking SOME kind of rule right?
But the whole time Celine is just internally fighting for her life to not fkin bust out in completely undignified giggles, and before she actually regains her composure the girls are already gone and behaving so? problem? solved?
And one day like post movie they're having Bonding Time all together and Celine is telling a story about (shamelessly stolen from my buddies in the discord) how she and Mi-yeong tried to fire her sword from her bow and then she's onto how that reminds me of the time she caught the girls tying one of Zoey's shin-kals to the end of Rumi's braid for Awesome Whip Attacks and she was so glad they ran off bc she started cackling (and crying a bit) the moment they were out of sight.
And the girls are like 'wait were you not going to punish us?' and she just shakes her head and Zoey and Mira stare at Rumi like 'THEN WHY DID WE DO LAPS?' and poor Rumi is just 'I PANICKED! I RAN! YOU FOLLOWED ME!'
Cue, of course, absolute chaos.

i myself am a person who will throw around dude/bro/man like i'm trying to bring surf back in style, but sometimes when i see people vehemently arguing that these terms are entirely gender neutral i do wanna gently take their hand like. okay but have you considered the societal and histortical reasons why masculine language and gender neutral language have so much overlap. can we acknoweldge how traditionally masculine terms are treated as a default and what that means. or are you gonna be weird about it.

Ok so reading some polytrix fic where they haven't gotten together yet and to break some tension Mira says something to the tune of "no fucking on the couch without me" as she goes off to make some much needed post breakdown food. And it basically turns Rumi into a squawking mess while Zoey fake boos just make Rumi even more flustered and then the fic moves on.
It's a moment fully there to help decompress after some heavy shit and it gives very "the girls will say anything to drag Rumi out of her head" vibes.
But I'm now imagining the statement getting used in a much lighter fic.
The kind where they're all feeling pretty bright and hopeful about life post patterns reveal and are finally letting themselves acknowledge their feelings a little. So they've been testing boundaries with flirting a bit but nothing that couldn't fall outside of plausible deniability.
It's a couch day. Just the girls and Zoey's latest 2 hour turtle compilation. They don't have a full cuddle pile going on, just a lazy sprawl with limbs touching and no one being game enough to move closer because they're all a little in their heads about how pretty the others are.
Zoey begs lunch off Mira, riding the momentum of the bit to half climb into Rumi's lap and cajole her into giving Mira puppy dog eyes as well. Rumi cannot NOT flash Mira her biggest wettest fail girl eyes when Zoey is pouting that close to her face and Mira cannot withstand the force of the two girls she's fallen for posed like that looking up at her like they're begging for something without almost combusting on the spot.
So she rushes to the kitchen with a retaliatory "fine but no fucking on the couch without me" which manages to one hit KO all of them.
Lots of blushing lots of awkward laughing, and anime head steam, "hahahaha we would never... Unless... I mean of course not" type energy.
Mira quarantines herself in the kitchen, and Zoey suddenly has a doctoral presentation to give on whatever turtle is on screen, and Rumi it definitely listening to said presentation she just also very much needs to be reviewing the lyric book that's on the coffee table. Reading it upside down forces her to slow down and really take in each word to see if they are working. Shut up.
And then because OBVIOUSLY it was just a funny NORMAL definitely not weird VERY PLATONIC joke that Mira had made because that's what friends do, and because none of these women actually have chill, or want to back down and risk making the others feels like something is wrong, all of them double down.
It becomes a household meme. One of them has to go do something while the other two will be left behind? "No fucking on the couch without me."
Zoey does it first. As a callback. Something to remind them of the more peaceful and relaxed times they all work so hard for after they get home from an absolutely gruelling variety show shoot. They all collapsed on the couch like puppets with cut strings still in their work outfits and feeling like death warmed over. Zoey didn't so much recover first as much as she had the least tolerance for the sensory hell of her sweaty body in her outfit so she levered herself back up with barely enough rest to keep her standing for a shower, and said it as she shuffled off towards her room. "No fucking on the couch without me."
It definitely gave her an adrenaline boost and a half after her brain caught up with her words that helped her through her shower. It worked for Mira and Rumi too. They didn't run to their showers because that would be weird and omg it was just a callback, but like. The energy was crackling.
Anyways they just keep saying it. And it mutates. It's not just when they're physically on the couch anymore.
At the bathhouse and one of them wants to go use the sauna and ice plunge while the others soak? "No fucking on the couch without me."
One of them will be home late from a photoshoot while the others get to go for BBQ? "No fucking on the couch without me."
It's like a weird "bye, I love you both."
And they mostly keep it to when it's just them. Because it's part of their flirting not flirting and they can't have people hear them or see it because that would be SO unprofessional.
But then they actually do get together, and the flirtiness of the statement increases tenfold because now they COULD fuck on the couch.
Eventually their relationship is more settled and has even gone public and so they don't have to be as strict about monitoring themselves in public and then it happens.
A live appearance. Maybe another variety show challenge? They're being partially split for a challenge and playing up the clingy girlfriend angle a little to spice up the otherwise bland competition show, and Rumi has to go run an obstacle course or something while Mira and Zoey are benched. They have to cajole her a little to go win for them and Rumi just puts on a pout and drops a casual "fine I'll do it, but no fucking on the couch without me."
To which Mira and Zoey completely desensitized are just like "yeah yeah. Go win already" and "what bribes you got?"
The audience and the production team are not desensitized.
It actually takes the girls all a solid 5 minutes to figure out why everyone is losing their absolute shit.
It trends on socials for like a solid three months.
Rumi has to have an official Sunlight Entertainment meeting with Celine about it. It's agony for them both. Basically just both of them sitting in Celine's office with their faces in their hands like "why would you say that?" "Why did I say that?" for an hour until Celine just goes "please don't swear on variety shows." And they call it done.
Alt version.
Mira and Rumi drop off some food for Zoey midstream and Zoey throws a "no fucking on the couch without me" as they leave, inadvertently causing the whole internet to explode. Zoey doesn't immediately even notice her chat go insane because she's excited for her lovingly homemade bibimbap. She notices the meltdown about the same time she hears Mira start laughing hysterically while Rumi freaks about something from down the hall where Mira and Rumi have her stream on the TV.

all millenials have absolute permission to be ~wacky~ bc we are all driven insane by the fact that we were the ONLY generation to have access to certain technologies and we sound fucking crazy trying to explain it to people
everyone before us lived in the pre-digital age.
everyone after us lived in the enshittified post .com era
we and we alone were juuuust aged right for the point in time where we had sick ass gumdrop looking computers and phones of all shapes and sizes and you could go out in the world and be human and imperfect without some chode recording you
fucking hell
shit was free and gmail was, actually, simple and reliable.

I'm late to this party but the way Mira and Zoey look at Rumi like she's the only person in the room as she literally saves their souls

as they find their way back to one another.

Not to mention this scene where they all look at each other in turn while matching each other's harmony. They make a promise to show each other everything that's underneath from now on, without the lies...

In conclusion: I hope they explode

i genuinely cant get over how funny the movie is from zo/mira's pov...like if i were them i would want to shake rumi violently or squeeze her until she pops. what do you mean you posted golden the first day of our break. what do you mean your voice is in trouble but you just cut off our break. what do you mean you just ran away 10 minutes before our show. what do you mean you have an issue with this song we literally just wrote all together- the song you literally had the first idea for. what do you mean by attacking mira's weaknesses when you are very clearly being a fucking freak this weak and we're concerned. what do you mean you won't perform the show that we do tomorrow.
all of this just to say they love her. they love her so fucking much.

i'll defend fanfic for my whole life. like the joy it brings is genuinely transformative and indulgent in a way unique to the genre. it isn't meant for a market, it isn't meant to be sold or marketed. it is born out of such care and passion for a media that one must write and must share it, so other folks can enjoy it to. for no other reason than love and joy. do you know how special that is? especially in our current social and political climate.
