Oh okay, I see how the miscommunication happened, since the fact that I was hearing these things about steam rings from people who believe the gorosei are not devil fruit users was the original conceit of the post. Here are some screenshots with links to articles which may help explain why I was referring to a large number of people not believing the gorosei are devil fruit users.

I don't mean to be rude, but I mentioned three separate times in the original post that I specifically was referring to people who do not believe the gorosei are devil fruit users. The point of the post was specifically that it seems strange to me that specific people who don't believe the gorosei are zoan users also tend not to question their own belief that the steam rings can only happen on awakened zoans, which I still stand by.

It's been driving me a bit crazy that this series of things are just...not being questioned? By anyone.

Like here's who has the steam rings, if that's true

Luffy: awakened zoan god user

Lucci: awakened zoan user, subordinate to gorosei

Kaku: awakened zoan user, subordinate to gorosei

All 5 gorosei: actual demons or gods

So like Uhh based on how that's all, like, as it is?? Isn't it more logical to assume it's some sort of god-based power??? Whatever thing they call gods in this universe. (Maybe that the ryugu kingdom royalty started wearing due to being friends with joyboy who ate the devil fruit of (or actually was) the sun GOD nika?? Since royalty is usually associated with blessings from gods, or having the bloodline of gods??)

Also wouldn't it make more sense for Zoro to struggle so hard with Lucci if Lucci had been given some kind of fortification power by the gorosei? A power that's only visible in his awakened zoan form?

Idk it's just wild to me that nearly the entire basis for the steam ring = awakened zoan thing was something that now people think is just not true at all - that the gorosei are devil fruit users - but the idea that came from that original misunderstanding is still just taken for granted as fact.

Yeah, I mean, hagoromos being the obvious reference is a good deal of what made me think it's weird people were referring to the steam rings as The Key Visual Device Oda is using exclusively for awakened zoans, no question, anyone we havent seen with the steam can't be awakened, everyone we see with it must be awakened. Cause as you say, they denote divinity or royalty. And I've seen them in yokai paintings and drawings. And if people generally accept the gorosei aren't awakened zoans but actually demons or gods, then it's clearly not just only awakened zoans. Also Luffy had it when he wasn't awakened, in gear 4, and approximations or starts of it even back in gear 2.

I'm just saying it is being talked about as if it's black lightning - like, we see black lightning we know it's conquerors haki, there's never been any question about that, there's nothing else it could be. And I feel like it's more like the "thought" bubbles Oda uses for when people communicate quietly or silently - is that telepathy? Whispering? Who knows! All we know is that the people communicate but in a way that isn't heard by anyone they don't want hearing them.

We have seen steam rings on some awakened zoans. Also on the gorosei, and who knows what they are. And also luffy in gear 4 when he wasnt awakened. So it's not "this only ever means one thing and we know exactly what it is". At the very least, if that was the case, we'd have to believe Luffy awakened his devil fruit when he came up with gear 4. Does that make sense?
