ok but imagine Buffy and Jonah as best friends who end up hanging out all the time now because Andi seems to spend all her time with Amber now and Cyrus is always with TJ. and the two enjoy hanging out and don’t think much of it until it starts to hurt them. Buffy just trying to scroll through Instagram but can’t ignore the way her stomach churns at the picture Andi posted of her and Amber being goofy. She all but slams the phone down onto the table. And then Jonah realizes Cyrus can’t go ten seconds without bringing up TJ and every mention of the basketball boy feels like a knock upside the head.
Buffy and Jonah head to the spoon one day but Amber is working so Buffy takes Jonah’s arm and tries to lead him away. Jonah wants to argue until he realizes Cyrus is inside with TJ and a few other people he doesn’t recognize. So Jonah let Buffy drag him away. They go elsewhere for food and dance around the subject of how their other friends choice of friend has them feeling less than pleasant. And Jonah is the first to cave and tell Buffy straight up that he’s pretty sure he has a crush on Cyrus. Buffy takes his hand and she has a flashback to Cyrus coming out. But she doesn’t say anything about it as tears well in her eyes. Jonah is confused but places his other hand on top of Buffy’s. She confesses about her crush on Andi and Jonah can’t help but laugh. He knows he shouldn’t but he couldn’t process everything. What were the odds?
Just imagine best friends Buffy and Jonah confiding in each other about their crushes on Andi and Cyrus and being their for each other.

The Crush
// reallly lame titled fic that takes place after cyrus and buffy watch andi give jonah the bracelet for the 2nd time pls enjoy
~
“Are you sure you’re okay?” Buffy pressed. She watched Cyrus intently as they moved over from watching the happy new couple to sitting on the couch.
“Buffy, really, I’m fine,” Cyrus assured, and Buffy saw a genuine smile on his face.
This wasn’t how Buffy expected him to react. She thought it was funny that they were hear once again. For some reason it had felt like so much time had already passed since the first time Andi tried to give Jonah the bracelet and Cyrus had confessed of his crush.
“It’s okay if you’re not,” Buffy spoke, reaching out to grab onto Cyrus’ hands. “And I’m always here to talk about it.”
“Buffy what’s going on?” Cyrus questioned.
She should have known not to press on. That Cyrus was so observant and he knew her so well. There was no way she was getting away with hiding her feelings.
“It’s nothing,” Buffy attempted to assure.
Cyrus watched her closely however. He saw how her foot wouldn’t stop moving, the way she kept rubbing the top of Cyrus’ hands. How she kept looking around the room to avoid his gaze.
“Would you prefer me to be heartbroken right now? Because I’m really happy for my friends.”
Buffy took back her hands and got up from the couch.
“It’s not that. And I”m happy for them too. In a way.”
She paced the length of the couch as her secret built up inside her. As much as she wanted to scream it out loud and finally get this off her chest she was frightened. There was no need for Buffy to be scared, she knew that. This was Cyrus, after all. And they were best friends. Best friends who told each other their secrets. Even secrets like this.
“In a way?” Cyrus repeated.
There wasn’t much time, Buffy figured, before everyone came back inside. She had to say it now. Buffy took her spot back on the couch and locked eyes with Cyrus.
“I like…”
The door opened and the two jumped back at the sound of Bex coming home.
“Aren’t they the cutest? Okay guys give me one second on the snacks.”
The two friends didn’t break eye contact as they waited for Bex to reach the kitchen.
“I swear to Hercules if you were gonna say Jonah…” Cyrus starts, his voice much lower to avoid Bex listening in.
Buffy shakes her head and it doesn’t take long for Cyrus to put the pieces together. He grabbed Buffy’s hands as he smiled, tears suddenly welling up.
“You’re no different,” he told her.
A tear ran down Buffy’s face as she shook her head.
“You don’t get to use my words against me,” she said, trying to keep the mood light.
“No matter what, you’re always gonna be Buffy Driscoll. And I’ll always be Cyrus Goodman. Together we’re always gonna be best friends.”
The front door opens again and Buffy is quick to take back her hands to wipe at her eyes. Jonah and Andi walk in, holding hands and giggling before they noticed the two on the couch.
“Hey, is everything okay?” Andi questioned.
“I’m just glad to be back,” Buffy said.
Andi left Jonah’s side and squeezed herself in between Cyrus and Buffy, pulling her into a hug. Cyrus got up from the couch and walked over to Jonah.
“I know I said it earlier,” Jonah started, “but thanks again for always being there for me. I truly don’t know what I did to deserve a friend like you.”
There was that word again. Friend. There was a time when that was all Cyrus wanted. But now that word felt like salt in an open wound. Jonah was his friend and he would never be anything more.
Maybe Cyrus nor Buffy were okay right now. But until they were, they had each other to confide in.
