the song itself is about desperately fiending for an escape from your unfulfilling life with your lover even if your new life isnt that much different. sbr is almost entirely about johnny and gyros cross country trip to win the race they each entered for self fulfillment but they encourage each others growth throughout it. Also gyro is the only reason johnny even signed up

uuhhhhhh spoilers for literally all of Dimension 20: Fantasy High if people have not watched it
throughout all of fantasy high Kristen goes through so much social and religious trauma—she loses her parents, her church, her identity as a child of Helio. and yet her ability to persevere is truly phenomenal, she *makes a whole new god at one point* and resurrects not one, but *TWO* old gods. it's noted several times throughout the series that Kristen is one of the best clerics the world has ever seen. when she turned her back on her church and became a blasphemer, she set out to make her own path, and holy shit did she do that and so much more. she knows that she has the ability to be so much more, and though she struggles a lot with her divinity, she perseveres and becomes a truly amazing cleric.

Okay so this is like, ENTIRELY vibe-based, and this directly comes from a discussion about ~The Vibe~ of Bill Cipher I've had. Has that sort of "ominous in a playful way" vibe to it. (Part of this is also just that it reminds me of Gravitron by Lemon Demon, one of the unused Gravity Falls themes)

Her whole arc is learning what life is, and that’s what the song’s about.

"We creep so deep in disguise/The private lives of private eyes" this part makes me think of the flashback scene of mob and reigen meeting, when reigen is debating quitting his job as a psychic (fake (you could say it's a "disguise")). funnily enough something he contemplates doing next is becoming a private investigator but he ultimately decides against it, then ends up not quitting at all upon meeting mob
"My baby, you know she loved the life/And I tried so hard to do right" tbh i got no fucking clue what the first part of this line could be but the "and i tried so hard to do right" is just.... very, very reigen. he does his best to be a good person even with all the shitty stuff in the world and you know what? he manages it! problem is that he doesn't quite believe that himself ^^;
"We should weep to be free/Do you still see God in me?/What kind of man am I to take the fear to you?/Take a miracle to keep me near to you" i think the "do you still see god in me" line can specifically be targeted towards separation arc, the latter half of it---the "genuinely good guy" scene. you know the one. reigen is so afraid that mob hates him now or, worse yet, feels betrayed because reigen's been lying to him, but he's not and it's.... ouuuuu. jesus christ. fictional found family........................................ the "what kind of man am i to take the fear to you" line is also very VERY reigen. he's a man with a good conscience and moral compass, i doubt there isn't even a *little* bit of guilt about dragging this preteen around with him in potentially life-threatening situations!! not to mention that reigen's supposed to be the adult! "take a miracle to keep me near to you" is... well, i think this one is obvious for any mp100 fan. the fact that reigen is still keeping up s&s after years, and the fact that mob didn't find out(?unless you take that one scene differently) about reigen not having powers for so long, AND the fact that they're still friends, is nothing short of a miracle in reigen's eyes
"I show you the mettle I am made of/Show you exactly what you been afraid of/My hand's to God to save her/How do I save? I've so much to pay for" SO FIRST OFF. - "I['ll] show you the mettle i am made of/show you exactly what you've been afraid of" is sooo confession arc coded. reigen has fucking balls of STEEL man he is a normal human being with no powers whatsoever and here he is running into a fucking TORNADO. holy shit man. jesus christ. barefoot no less. and the "show you exactly what you've been afraid of" is, of course, reigen telling mob that he has no powers, something which mob has always known but repressed, denied, because he couldn't handle that fact - "my hand's to god to save her/how do i save? i've so much to pay for" tbh that first bit is still kinda foggy to me but, given dimple's whole Thing from two arcs prior, you could see it as the dimple possession moment! and "how do i save, i've so much to pay for" is quite obvious. he's soo fucking guilty!! he thinks---he *knows*---that he owes mob so much more than he could ever give the kid, and that he's done a lot of bad things (at least in his eyes), and he's doing this (as in, yaknow. tornado) with not much of a plan either !
"First you start with the greed/Then you take all of me" this could be seen as: - what reigen thinks mob's pov of him is OR - ???%'s pov of reigen both are great
[skipping this line it's not relevant]
"Belief in relief, nothing to stay for/Won't ask you to survive me one day more/My hand's to God to save her/How do I save? I've so much to pay for" ok so that second bit we already covered, but the FIRST bit, "belief in relief, nothing to stay for/won't ask you to survive me one day more" is, again, confession arc. "belief in relief" is mob's denial of the truths he knows, and i suppose the "nothing to stay for" could once again be ???%'s pov of reigen. "won't ask you to survive me one day more" is reigen after telling mob the truth, especially the whole thing about how he doesn't deserve to call himself mob's master
[the rest of these lines are repeated, we already covered them]
ok thanks bye ^-^

He's a cheery little guy, but he's hiding a lot of sadness under that playful exterior. He's also a MAJOR people pleaser who always chooses what others want over what he wants, even if it's to his own detriment. His friends help him out with it, hence the hopeful ending to the song.

airy spent a decade wandering the afterlife. the first thing he did when he figured out how to get in contact with other people was create a world just for them. the grass, the sky, the clouds, all him. his only way of grasping for sanity was to create. also the song deals with death/the afterlife so the Return To Obscure bit def connects to him. fucked up that we got an hfjone animatic of the mind electric and not this
