Youth: ranking

When I listened to the songs first time on YT, taking time to read the lyrics translation and stretching the process over two days, I thought I will really like only a few songs. However, after listening to the whole album on Spotify several times, I came to the conclusion that I like all the songs. To a various degree, but mostly very favourable degree. Even where the instrumentals or instruments don't align with my taste perfectly, Doyoung's voice or some included short segment arrangements, balance things out.

Despite looking up the lyrics in advance, my perception is based solely on the sound as I don't understand what is being said while I'm listening.

The song that fits my own brainwaves the best. Not the genre per se, but a bit of chaos and multiple transitions. Makes me sing along.

All beautiful in their own way. I like the positive energy even if I don't like electric guitars and repetitive drum bit in places.

A good song, but a tad too simple for me. I'm not a fan of such genre. There is no hook to get me. I won't skip it, but I won't choose to listen to it out of order either.

Heh. The problem is in the loud drums. I just can't listen to songs with a metronome type of drum bit on the background on repeat, the even bit gets to my nerves pretty quickly like tick-tock of the clock, it overpowers the voice.

Good news for the concerned anon, I saw Doyoung flight info on twitter already. But don't get high hope because it's hard for a meet-up as the FW schedule is difficult to fit in and I doubt we can have a vlog like last year. Anyway DJJ in Milan for the 1st time, let's hope for sub-unit content, maybe.

SM should not waste the opportunity and pay for some articles about DJJ consisting of 3 BAs in Milan. The unit should show some signs of life, plus new fans can be attracted outside of a comeback (how it is normally is for artists).

I didn't comment, but for the latest DG outing Do had the best styling so far. I'm waiting for the time when he will sing on one of the brand's special parties.

yes lucy performs in music show as well. They’re quite popular. Most top bands from the jtbc survival show Superband came out pretty famous after the show. Lucy was formed during that show! The format of the show is everyone with music background can come and participate. Some already have their own bands before the show like The Rose vocalist (yes, he’s in it too). So they have positions like lead, guitarist, bassist, drummer, etc. and they formed bands with random people for their weekly stage. And by the end of the competition there would be groups with regular member already. Kinda like produce 101 but with bands. Some bands formed during the competition stays and promote as one like LUCY and HOPPIPOLLA (this is Ha Hyunsang’s band btw, Do’s fav as well- i think he watched this show) and some goes back to their former band like THE ROSE vocalist. If you like bands instrumental you should definitely check the show out. It’s a competition so most of them do covers and their arrangements are very good. Lucy is one of the few bands who write their own song for some last stages in the show. Check out SNOOZE, i love that song during the show.

but idt the ones playing with Do are LUCY’s members. Acquaintances maybe. I think they’re having a tour right now. And they’re under mystic story now which is a good agency for musicians in sk.

You guys should really check out superbands, they have 2 seasons now and their rendition of popular songs, old songs and what not are really creative. Some groups play safe, and some groups i just can’t comprehend at first but eventually fell in love with them. There are also musicians from classical background and it’s interesting how they merge with other bands musician. What’s most interesting is that their clashing genres. Some are hardcore rock and suddenly they got paired up with an acoustic, mellow singer. It’s really fun!! AKMU suhyun is also one of the judges. some groups also explore different types of instruments. Some unconventional ones like traditional giant drum? I have no idea what it’s called.

I won't be able to recognise Lucy members in the face. I have to rely on what fans say in the comments. And they say that on the music shows it's Lucy (but the band's name isn't mentioned, so I'm not convinced?). For the open-air performances the musicians are different.

Mystic Story is under SM, btw. I think one of the reasons why Do chose them. Easier to approach and collab.

So, Lucy band performs with Do on music shows. Can someone tell me if they performed their own songs on these programmes? Their album sales seem to be pretty good for a band (not the most popular genre in SK). I've heard of them before, they are known. Not The rose level popularity, but they don't struggle, it seems.

Doyoung talked in 2018 how he missed the atmosphere in a studio with a band, the tuning of the instruments, the experiments with arrangements. Let's see if he'll get himself a permanent band to play with after the enlistment instead of session musicians.

I couldn't go to a shop to buy a sim-card for some time. My current neighbours are water buffalos, not convenience stores, heh. And the package I have is only 25G. I have to live on less than 1gb per day.

I’ll be waiting for your commentaries on Doyoung youth documentary! I think you’re really gonna like a lot of the contents during this promotional era. Thankful that promotion nowadays are not just about going to variety shows. Thanks to social media, we got to see him appear to talk shows and see him talks more. We’re seeing more of Doyoung who is not part of NCT. His thought process, his interaction with people outside of his circle or out of his field. I can see he’s a lot more confident too. He really says ‘This is who I really am’ through this era (album-wise and personality-wise). Despite being ambitious he’s also aware that this album will not appeal to all due to people’s preference. But most important thing to him, he’s satisfied with it. I learnt a lot from him through this album. Once again, you’re really gonna enjoy it!!

*sobs* Yeah, only in June. I'm in a new country, and the prices for mobile internet are insane here. Plus there are complications with buying a package in the first place giving my location and lack of a credit card. I have to severely safe on data. Unlimited is not even an option.

I see that Doyoung goes on a lot of programmes where he can sing live. It's really great he has the opportunity to do now what he had been longing for for so long (remember how he complained about his parts in NCT songs? "I will do what I have to do"). All his patience and perseverance is paying off.

I think, it is extremely hard to wait for postponed gratification (when an idol starts to invest blood and tears since day one of a trainee life), to see other, younger people, making it or doing what you want to do (like freshly debuted groups achieving more awards than NCT), add to it the loom of enlistment over male idols. Fortunately, in comparison to poor Taeil, and even Taeyong to a degree, Doyoung lucked out with the debut time window. I'm really happy for him and for his fans.

I also suppose that he got a full album because he found those additional 3 songs himself (one he wrote, one from Lucy's guy, maybe Kenzie's or the one with Mark can be counted as the 3d). As it is less about money, and more about finding enough of good songs that can go together. The songs were collected over a long time as well (Tae had less than a year after Shalala).

I said before that I don't find idol Jaehyun interesting, he is bland to me. (His real self I'm sure I will like, what's with the love for arts, old things and jazz). Doyoung is a different case, but mostly because I invest in knowing him and see past his fake facade of a cute trembling bunny. The real Doyoung is tenfold more charming than his idol image that he developed over the years in apprehension of antis and not his NCT fans. After his shift in image (from savage) there always was a difference between what he allowed to show being in a group setting with other 127 members versus his communication with his own fans. With his fans he was more honest (Doyoung/Dongyoung divide, fake boyfriend pictures, etc). And as a soloist he is even more sincere. I'm looking forward to seeing him open up in those interviews (he will never be not self-censored, but still).

I thought yesterday about Doyoung's words about standing out. To me, he is a more unusual and rare individual than even Taeyong. I guess "tortured artist" is a well-explored personality, heh. There are many of them in the industry. Meanwhile a "tribal chief" could be more often found behind the scenes, not on the pop-stage. And if they exist, they are not "seen". The idol culture exposes artists, shows them from many sides, it is very different from how pop-scene is elsewhere.

Real Doyoung gives off a lot of energy. Active positive energy. Many idols are a subject of desire (sex appeal), adoration (cuteness) or empathy ("mistreatment"), not many are "class presidents" (Hanbin seems to be one, btw), those who push you.

I'm sorry, I'm rambling, but Do's chant guide cracked me up. It heavily reminded me how he persuaded his class to participate in a choir competetion and led them to win it.

Doyoung: "Repeat after me. You all emit light, you are all fireflies and stars, you are all kind and meant for great things. You are my support, I'm your support. If I can do it, you can do it. Do like me, do better than me. Sing with me."

I'm sorry, I don't understand your question. JaeWoo are BAs of Italian brands, them going to Italy for work makes sense. As long as Jae gets to attend Do's concert, I don't care about the rest. He is filming a movie and finishing his album, follows his own aspirations.

what do you mean with doyoung took a bus to personally send off Taeyong after the members had a mini reunion? because from what happened that day I remember all members except mahae being there, with jaehyun being the one to travel alone after he couldn't make it to the mini reunion (which was held at night). There's pics of doyoung and jungwoo going to the countryside together. Then doyoung was the first to leave after the send off since he probably had a schedule.

I asked to correct me if what I said was wrong. I couldn't monitor X and only saw a few posts quickly that day.

I got the impression that there was a send off party with 127. Jae was present on the group pics, so he made it in time, if not to the party. I haven't seen pics with other members accompanying Tae on the street. All the posts from the streets I came across had only Do. Plus this bubble about sending Tae off.

However, now I've found one with Jungwoo. Which mean all were present? Or only DoWoo?

I didn't bookmark, and I can't find the bus picture now. I remembered it because it was unusual. Do was inside the cabin already, looking back, I think. Maybe it was a ss kind of pic, so taken down.

TaeDo are multifaceted. We see the shiny side, their support and love for each other, but the relationship isn't without its complications. Both are people with strong characters and darker sides to them afterall. Their bond is strong though, I think stronger than MarkHyuk.

It's unfortunate, but it looks like I can't use YT at all if I want to save on i-net data. I've watched only 4-5 short videos, and 1/5 of my credit is gone in 1 day, heh. I will experience and enjoy the stages and concerts with a delay, in summer. There are always sacrifices in life...

With this NewJeans and Illit plagiarism scandal going on, it becomes clear how Big3 look not only for looks/talent, but personality, afterall. Whether I like BP or not, I have to admit that all the girls are very different and can stand on their own fan-attractor wise. Same with Babymonster, even with the same make up and beauty standart for every member, the girls are more memorable than most 4-5gen. NCT produced 4 soloists so far (I'm counting Lucas), and everyone's album is not like the other's. Riize also stands out among 5gen looks and concept wise.

Well, on the other hand, there is empty space to fill in left by Hybe, which young producers of small agencies try to occupy (StayC, Kiss of Life, Ive (maybe)).

Taeyong and Doyoung.

Doyoung's album feels more mature. Granted, Taeyong's 2 albums are more unique, individualistic, intimate in a way, debatebly there could be more artistic value to them, but it is still "Taeyong looks for TY" phase. There is hesitance. On the other hand, Doyoung knows who he is, I was wrong to doubt it. He might be afraid of whether fans can accept his non-idol self, the shift in the image, but he knows the road he wants to take. The album and the promotion feels like Doyoung sailing. It has that powerful element of the strong wind in the sails. The album already shows results close to IU and BTS guys in Korean charts. How happy Doyoung looks, how his true bold nature comes forward more and more in the performances. He is ready to take it, to enjoy everything. And yes, the timing is better for him than it was for Taeyong (both times). More room for concerts and festivals. However, the preparatory period was the same for both.

It is also about the voice. As I has been observing Do's progress since the time he made mistakes with pitch and was refusing to sing during interviews, I can feel the difference. He doesn't just sing well enough on the album, he shows different colours and techniques, uses his backvocals, in many places makes his work harder because he can (breathing, transitions, oberlayered singing with Taeyeon). During live performances he sounds weaker, so there is room to grow, but he will improve and catch up soon.

All in all, I'm personally glad SM doesn't allow the artists to go solo too early. Yes, maybe Doyoung could have released the album a year earlier. Maybe even two years earlier if covid didn't happen. The things happened how they happened though. Doyoung needed 127 to get Daesang and become a million seller, to perform at Tokyo dome and win over Korean fans, to get very close to Kenzie, to go through his burn out and overcome it, to invest some years into his love life with Jaehyun, to get the brand deal, the musical and tv-series first to be able to produce such an album, to approach renown song-writers and to ask for festivals and concerts in Japan and HongKong. The musical improved his vocals, the tv-series showed him he can succeed in a new area he is not comfortable in, DJJ let him get the experience of promoting outside of 127, gain support from fans with a new sound, the success of individual careers of the other members let him be "arrogant" and go for big things for himself. Mayhaps even the ousting of LSM was of help, who knows. LSM was known for being very involved in the work of his artists (to the degree of cutting off Seulgi's fringe for a better concept look right before the shooting of an RV's MV and changing aespa's "tsu-tsu-tsu" in the lyrics (which was genius on his part, but you know... his vision)).

Doyoung said people mostly remember Taeyong and Mark in 127, that he is not as memorable or standing out in the group in comparison. And it is true. It because he mimics an idol, plays a role for the group, (and loses points in dancing), he is confined in an image that is not him (Tae and Mark are themselves, Taeyong the soloist is a natural continuation of Taeyong the leader of NCT). Doyoung did it to himself, by the way, so the group is not to blame. In the performance on Mnet of "Little light" Dongyoung came out, and was as attention grabbing. He is not shakled by the level of success of the group (i.e. if he fails it won't affect negatively the unit), only the eyes of his own fans will be on him, the risk and reward are all his, so he is free to be more bold and greedy.
