some wips of my newest project!

this one will have hair, maybe a cape of some sort, and possibly mechanical wings, but i'm not quite sure how i'll approach any of those things, so i'm posting her as she currently is. i've really enjoyed doing projects that involve both making the base sculpt and a fair bit of post-printing customization, and painting & adding details to this doll was mega fun to spend my weekend on. the sculpt itself just kind of happened; couldn't exactly tell you why she is a steampunk violin demon girl, except that it was what i found fun in the moment.

Sooo... soft announcement time: Plus Dolls is doing another Kickstarter! 🎉 The dolls are gonna be a little pricier this time (kinda more in line with BJD prices), but the overall goal is gonna be lower, so hopefully, it's more doable! 🙌

We're working with a bunch of amazing artists from all over the world on this, and we're super excited. There’s gonna be a very limited number of full dolls available, plus options for assembled and unassembled blank dolls if that’s more your vibe. 😍

Oh hey I should have waited for the official photos. I still wish they’d made more with the original black and white theme, but these look pretty cool. Not crazy about the ken outfits but I love that the yellow-shirt ken looks like a different body type. I need more vaariety of articulted kens!

The first look at Barbie Looks dolls for December 2022/January 2023. I cannot wait for them! I’m very excited for petite light brown skin doll finally! They should really have every body shape in every shade of color. Also the blonde and redhead look like they have really nice face sculpts from this photo although the photo isn’t really detailed.

What are your thoughts? 🥰

Wanna buy a horse for my dolls but I can’t find one the right scale and while I’m looking I keep finding really cute ones that are the wrong scale but if I get one of those then I’ll need a new doll for my horse and it just never ends.

Ugh same. The negativity is so depressing! I mean, I do wish the clothes were better (I can’t sew, so I’m kinda stuck with them), but there’s so much I love about barbie, and everytime I venture into dollblr looking for news or crafting tutorials I have to wade through this tidal wave of doll collectors shitting on barbie for not being as high quality as xyz other doll line.

And then outside of doll collecting circles if you hear ‘barbie’ you’re about to hear the shocking news that the 1966 body isn’t actually an accurate scale model of a healthy human woman.

I’m ranting again I’m sorry!!

I just don’t like the hate Barbie gets. Barbie has the most articulated doll out there. And poses the best. Made to move Barbie really has spoiled me because I wish other dolls had the same articulation Barbie has. Barbie also has the most diverse body. There’s normal Barbie, tall, petite, and curvy like!!! Show me where Bratz or LOL or RH has this same variety. Also I’m not trying to hate on these dolls, it’s fine if the creator wants their dolls to all look the same body-wise for an aesthetic. But I’m sick of ppl saying that Barbie is “unrealistic” when Barbie is the most realistic doll there is. The worst part about Barbie are the clothes… but unless you want to spend twice as much for a Barbie I’d say I would much rather take the articulation and body diversity over the clothes. You can sew your own clothes or buy really cute realistic handmade clothes on Etsy or Instagram or buy Integrity doll clothes some can fit a Barbie doll (I think they have the best clothes but that’s also a big reason why they cost so much). The only other thing I would change about Barbie is making the Stacey, Skipper, and Chelsea doll have a made to move body too. But they just started making m2m Ken dolls sooo baby steps.
