One of the tasks hidden somewhere within the endless to-do list sitting on my desk, is to design the graphic identity for Belebat. ▫️ This beauty is above the front entrance to the château. Yes, there’s an M carved in with the B that god knows where it is coming from, but that’s an easy fix. An under 10€ find ...not a bad day at the local brocante. The little wall on the stairs landing is finally getting its own identity.

2019 kicked off wrapped in scaffoldings! The Petit Château finally sealed.

There are a couple of windows on the back tower that always make me stop, look and contemplate — as if I can still hear the devastating fire escaping through the broken glass, thanking with it hundreds of years of history 😔

When a 16th century window meets its 19th century pal, both, under a 21st century restoration — boy the stones need cleaning!

Last night jeff and I finally found the time to sit down and design the landscape that will tie the Château and all the outbuildings — Le Village — together.

We still need to come with the solution to connect the Château with the orchard and the vineyard, but at least now we know how our guests are we going to enjoy the estate.

Bought to safeguard the entrance to the cellar, these sunrise-hunters sentinels firmly wait their turn, side by side, before the château’s main door.

Have a dream and write it down. Break it into tiny steps and you have a plan. Go for it! If it’s necessary, change your plan, but never your goal.

As we celebrate the year that past, cheer our victories and toast to all the lessons learnt along the way, we close our eyes and look ahead to what’s to come ...and we love it!

Once again we reach the end of the calendar and twelve new months of blank pages are waiting to be used.

We could leave them blank, scribbled unimportant doodles or write the most outrageous adventures. Our hope is not in the new year, but in all of us who make new things happen ...the choice is always ours.

Here’s to the next 365 sunrises, thank you so very much for helping us make our story count.

Château de Belebat, Assay — Loire Valley— France

The tender pulsing sound of jingle bells cutting through the crispy cold ...the steamy aroma of hot cocoa mingling with the fresh perfume of pine trees ...and families, in every shape and size, with one mission in common: finding the perfect Christmas tree....

It took us a little while, but we found not just our Christmas tree, but a new tradition tied to it. From now on, each season we’ll pick one potted tree — a living one — to bring home.

At the end of the winter, just before the ground gets covered in yellow-cup daffodils, we’ll take the tree out of its tight plastic enclosure and set it free. Outside there’s a wealth of space for the trees to grow tall and happy and for our boys to create their very own Christmas wonderland.
