bart had to rework his life, his brain, his body just to fit the parameters of what whiteboy wallace and max considered ‘appropriate’ for a speedster, even tho he grew up in a fucking VIDEO GAME and was supposed to be conditioned into a terrorist weapon even tho his real fate was to die young and quick bc his very biology was against him surviving and that the speed force itself wanted him in its arms, but he FORCED himself to acclimate, even tho it was killing him inside, even tho the manchester junior high kids loved him, even tho max cared but was still unfit to parent, even tho whiteboy wallace couldn’t throw enough kind words his way, but HE KEPT GOING, and he made friends, grew to love carol, but that shit still hurt, so he was still Impulse first and Bart Allen the Civilian second, BUT THEN HE MET KON!

A FRIEND! SOMEONE HE COULD BE HIS TRUE SELF AROUND! WHERE HE DIDN’T NEED TO LIMIT HIMSELF JUST TO FIT IN! WHO HE COULD TEASE AND BOTHER AND TALK TO AND GIVE HEADPATS TO AND LISTEN TO!

Kon, who was his friend both in his original form, the superhero Impulse, and his civilian alter ego, Bart Allen of Manchester.

Kon, who was lonely and depressed and traumatized and terrible with women, but found friendship with a person who didn’t want to exploit him, or manipulate him, or use him for sex or for his powers, someone who only really just wanted to be his friend, and was! Bart Allen, Impulse, was his friend!

What if the love wasn’t supposed to be at first sight. What if it was supposed to be slow, and built upon pillars healing from individual grief and loss TOGETHER. what if it’s supposed to be based on a friendship that transcended even death and rebirth. what if even tho bart allen was always supposed to die, he COULDN’T stay dead, simply bc kon was still lost.

what if a man knew another man existed but didn’t think much about him until one day some kid makes grownups disappear, and now these men have to work TOGETHER. they exist, and their paths cross, but it’s not love at first sight, and there’s no shared legacy for them to fall into, but they keep crossing paths, when parallax destroys the universe, when there’s a world without grownups, and they HAVE to talk. they have to listen. they have acknowledge each other. and they do. little by little, over thirty years, through death and rebirth, separation and loss, reunion and going to a new home TOGETHER.

what if the love was a choice. what if they chose to care for each other even tho every aspect of the narrative sought to punt them both to hell. but couldn’t. bc bart allen CHOSE to find kon el in a broken multiverse. and when he did, kon el CHOSE to go home with him.

Please fill out this form if you’re interested in participating in the project—We’re taking all kinds of artists, including but not limited to digital artists, writers, fiber artists, sculptors, cosplayers and more! We would love to showcase your Konbart work.

Applicants do not need to include Konbart in their sample work, it is more important that you showcase your ability to show two (or more) characters interacting. Please keep in mind that the work must be your own, original work and not AI generated or copied from another source. All applicants should be 18 during the work period. Here it is!!! My next big project!!!

Ever since I first read Impulse (1995), I couldn't stop thinking about how it would make such a good Saturday morning cartoon. So I got to planning! I've got the entire comic laid out into 5 openings (each covering a certain arc/era of the comic). This first one covers Impulse #1-12 (including all of the Dead Heat crossover story).

I know that Meloni and Thad don't show up until later but I am not immune to classic anime op foreshadowing.

I also made sure that all of the Bart Allen Week prompts were in the video!

Day 1: Impulse '95 Cast This one is pretty self-explanatory. The video is literally about the Impulse '95 cast.

Day 2: 30th Century Meloni's cameo.

Day 3: Thad Thad's cameo (alongside Meloni).

Day 4: Mercury/Legacy A lot of the shots fit with this theme. Max Mercury shows up all throughout the animatic. And legacy counts for the part with Max and Helen as well as the comic panels with him and Bart.

Day 5: Preston's Home Movies I made a classic anime op crowd shot with Preston filming Bart and his school friends.

Day 6: Lightning Rod This one is a bit iffy, but I count the shot with Max and Savitar and the following Max and Bart shots for this because Max and Bart are totally each others' lightning rods.

Day 7: (Flash) Family/Free Day Free day is obviously this whole video, and for Flash Family, they get their own crowd shot at the end of the video

I think I'm going to leave this project as is for a little while, but I've already decided that it's going to be this year's Bartober. In October, I'm going to be making daily progress on the final animation. So that's something to look forward to :)

But they aren’t nearly as evil

I haven't watched Hazbin Hotel yet (I've watched the pilot episode a while ago tho but that's all) so I'm gonna have to trust you on this. 😄

Status Update

Sorry for the silence everyone! We ran into a bit of trouble while formatting the zine, however it's all been worked out now. Our contributors are currently reviewing the document and making sure they're all credited properly. As soon as that's done, we will be placing the orders for the physical zines.

You should expect another status update later this week with estimated dates the merch and zine should start arriving to us, as well as estimated dates the bundles will be shipped out. We apologize again for the delays.

Had no less than 7 people mass like my blog this week, putting literally 1000s of like notifications but not a single one reblog. I don't understand the point. WHY. You cannot SEARCH your likes, there is no algorithm.

May I ask about your Nightwing & Flamebird Damian & Jon art? Jon's Flamebird suit looks so much like Dick's Brett Booth Nightwing costume. Is that intentional? Did they both receive one of Dick's suits?

I'm not sure I can answer that properly. But yes, I did use Nightwing's suit as a reference for this commission because it was important that Jon's suit had the same kinda vibe as Damian's.

You'll have to ask @g1rlr0b1n for more info on this au because they're the one who commissioned me.
